Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"To step toward your destiny, you have to step away from your security.” - Craig Groeschel

Crystal clear and still, as the sun rises in morning brilliance, running her beaming fingers through tree limbs. A bitingly cold start at 37 as we welcome December to come out to play. Holiday decorations starting to appear and as the first candles are lit this evening, set the stage for holiday cheer. Those hoping to add the first celebratory layer of salty goodness to their decor are arriving to a few open court side spots. As conversations seep like smoke when spoken, smiles and laughs can be seen. In neoprene suits we run for a fall remembering that 6 minus 1 is 5, and 5 plus 1 is six; the tribe has spoken.

CHANNEL:  High tide crashing up the ramp with aerial water spray up the wall, makes for a intricate entry. Reflection waves are rideable out to sea helping save paddle arms for later. WNW swell visible as the storm has passed and is the cleanest it’s been for a week. Waves rolling in the knee height with a fast drop and short ride. One main peek with an 8 member crew trying to remember the pecking order.

PATCH:  And here I go again on my own, Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known, Like a drifter I was born to walk alone, An’ I’ve made up my mind, I ain’t wasting no more time, But here I go again.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Early morning bouts of the heavy stuff along with winds of intensity and velocity. Now in a calmer mode but possibly poised for future actions and drenchings. No chill exists with temp at 53F but a risen sun remains shaded behind clouds while portions of blue open and close. Mostly maligned masses of water bear the burden of the weather tumult. You take what you need and you leave the rest, but they should never have taken the very best.

CHANNEL:  First light and first glance reveals the shadows cast by breakers replenished. Higher perches are required to get the full visual and know the deception in play. Most shapes have been marked down and placed in the clearance bin. Rides and slides lasting mere seconds become walls of water located about the chest and neck as the winds have laid their claim upon.

PATCH:  Early access still not without peril though swinging tides make entry points more plentiful as the day progresses. With lowered expectations a positive outlook may be realized. Storm forged rollers are widely scattered and generally shattered yet the illusion of stoke remains palpable. Pressing forward with the uncertainty of tomorrow pulling dreams back to the sea.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Shun no toil to make yourself remarkable by some talent or other.” - Seneca the younger

This too shall pass as the storm retreats and yields to more favorable conditions. Cooled off and down to 47F with lightest breezes from the north and streaky but clearing skies. Birdies chirp and hidden frogs croak along the journey to unlock the secrets of the sea. The ocean still heaves but with less menace and more opportunity. Observation posts allow for the full experience along with wet pantaloons and footwear. The park is again open, the moose out front went home.

CHANNEL:  Charged NW swell of size and velocity providing a consistency of disorientation. A constant crash and smash into paint adorned and largely scorned concrete boundaries is the first obstacle to overcome. Full tide has fueled some of the chaos and now the outgoing seeks to clean and preserve some semblance of form. Not the stuff legends are made of but the sea tells no tales.

PATCH:  A more refined turmoil of shapes that pitch and bellow in a discordant manner. The breakers are mere suggestions and those of true merit are not to be found. Not remaining unchallenged by those landlocked practitioners only needing a small stoke dose to refresh the supply. Most boards remain bagged but may see the light of day yet.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” - Dolly Parton

Much more rain throughout the night along with associated high winds which continue to blow and thrash. Electrified air charged with the smell of sea and singe. Moments of sun often replaced with more rain. Storm surges and high tides have water coming from both above and below with opportunities for drenching at every turn. No inroads into ocean adventures worth undertaking at this time. Don your Onesie and brew hot beverages while you catch up on literary requirements.

CHANNEL:  Mass confusion and chaotic breakers heaving metric tons of water in all directions at once. From any distance, the panic and perpetual motion of the sea is evidence of unleashed raw power. This is not my beautiful house…

PATCH:  A map of mayhem and disorder with disappointment the endgame landmark. The foolish few in seawall attendance debate the application of neoprene protection. Those with misguided confidence may place their efforts in the least effective areas today. Let the water hold me down…

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"If we couldn’t laugh we would all go insane.” - Robert Frost

Soaked and saturated but currently sedated with some clearing noted and a calmness of wind. 57F in the moment and low pressure remains situated over the region. Humidity and humility distributed in equal parts along with dense fog rising and hovering. Everything seems obscured and out of focus and extra dilation not helping the cause. Sea stalwarts gather and gaze but mostly mystery surrounds. The potential for dismay and disappointment must be weighed against the positive unknown realm.

CHANNEL:  Large WNW storm swell overwhelms and overlaps. Partitions of smoothness only a fleeting mirage in a sea of chaos. Early high tides not dropping too low and heaving along the walls and up the ramp. No shapes, less form, no shoes, no service.

PATCH:  Patient observation from multiple points of view doesn’t yield insight into any concise description. Encased in lingering fog and bereft of true directional swell a case can only be made for those blindly devoted practitioners. Plenty of water, in fact, likely too much. Keep an unflappable eye to the west as there are hopes for better afternoon outcomes.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You and I are made of stardust. We are the stuff of exploded stars. We are therefore, at least 1 way that the Universe knows itself. That to me, is astonishing.” - Bill Nye

Pitter-patter rain falling steadily down with no wind in sight. Hissing tires rolling out of town as walkers stay inside. A warmer 50 to start as the heavy gray clouds keep in the warmth. Parking filling up with a flotilla of ocean kayak seekers as the usual morning crew has taken the day off. Dressed in slick layers for protection, through the gates we go to feast our eyes on what Mother Nature holds today.

CHANNEL:  WNW swell causing mass confusion in the form of storm swell. White water washing machine churn in the Channel proper with waves not forming to rideable slides. As the tide rises along with the storm swell, the outlook looks less than desirable. Best to ride out the storm on land.

PATCH:  6 kayaks and one SUP playing a game of keep away from any ocean motion. All are winning and tied for the prize of no waves caught. I hear the trophy celebration will be held when high tide peeks this afternoon.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Be yourself. No one can say you’re doing it wrong.” - Charles M Schulz

Icy dew drops from telephone lines sparkle like sequins against the rising yellow sun. Feathered white clouds floating over crisp clear blue with temps hovering at 44. A cold beginning to the regularly programmed schedule after this past turkey day as the daily grind commences. Walking towards the ramp a lucky few are seeking refuge to the sea. With bated breathe and fingers crossed, hoping to cleanse the soul with salty slides.

CHANNEL:  Still and lake like as water levels are coming in high and drowning out the WNW swell. No one out and no white water in sight as seagulls bob for apples and seals swim laps. As the tide turns in the afternoon, opportunity may knock in the form of ankle wavelets. For now sit back, enjoy some hot coffee and breathe in the fresh clear air.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"A person always doing his or her best becomes a natural leader, just by example.” - Joe DiMaggio

Laser sharp shadows drawn out by the rising suns brilliance. Cold and still with temps starting at 48 and climbing all the way to 59 by afternoon. Morning walkers with four legs, bundled up in layers in search of a stick to fetch. Conversations of packing and traveling overheard by those who are able to stay and make their way to shore. Dawn patrol warriors are back, who are a welcomed sight to see, have the timing dialed as they already head out of town. Slivers of sand can be seen though impossible to reach with tidal high swings. Time is of the essence if walking the wall is what you seek. Best to leave your socks and slippers behind.

CHANNEL:  Bloated and engorged water levels rising all day till afternoon. Glassy and calm ocean motion as the Channel current is moving one way towards the lagoon. One white water peak crumbling and dissipating into blue as a gang of four paddle without direction. Time the entry perfectly with the rolling incoming water if ankle high waves are what you seek.

PATCH:  Blue hues seen with the naked eye with no white in sight. Crisp and clear the horizon’s sharp line reaches the sky. The search and hunt for the flattest rock is on, practice the perfect throw, for the most bouncing skips wins.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You cannot create experience. You must undergo it.” - Albert Camus

Abated rain provided a good wash and rinse to saturate the soil and clear the air. AQI index back in the green and all systems operational for outdoor adventures. Beans grind and bacon burns with holiday visitors still within. Early skies start grey are now released with segments of blue reaching through and bright sun to dry. Steady stream of those in pursuit of slides and stoke are pouring in with rooftop racks stuffed with sleds. Swells of fair magnitude attempting to align and overcome the high tides may only show their potential when the lights begin to dim.

CHANNEL:  Swollen waters with a continual rise until the late morning is the obstacle to overcome. Co-joined swells with Western borne intentions creating wide rights mostly soft in nature. The entry portal against the seawall tells a different tale and concrete does not mesh well with flesh and foam. Use judgement at all times but especially during access and exit.

PATCH:  Under a fine layer of slowly evaporating mist an intrepid crew finds fair seas suited for the longest log you have. The allusion of a SW swell providing the illusion of breakers that are slow to start and short to ride. Morning tide push helping the cause but will eventually overwhelm any pulses predicted.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Every hour of every day is an unspeakably perfect miracle.” - Walt Whitman

Sedated seekers on the tryptophan tip remain deep in slumber and mostly sedentary save one. The hazy grey of the recent days now hangs heavy over the village while rain starts and stops. Whispered ruminations and projected contemplations are filled with doubt and confusion. Jumbled seas and growing tides focus the truth on the horizon which is deep and dark. Hoping for the calm after the storm to project clarity and consistency.

CHANNEL:  Though a solid NW swell exists in the underwater realm it doesn’t yet demand our attention in present circumstances. The steel pole of resolve takes the brunt force of misshapen undulations while water levels continue to grow. The future remains uncertain and satisfaction doubtful.

PATCH:  If you go it will be up the stairs and over the walls awash with foam and spray. All entrance and exits remain unsecured and volatile. Tis the season for SW windswell and those in observance of such outnumber those in the breach, and with good reason.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.” - Ernest Hemmingway

Clearing skies with natural colors of blue, pink, orange and red as we seek some clarity on this day to pause, reflect and give thanks. Tortured and turbulent ocean a product of recent storms and high tides yet unfulfilled. Entry and exits strategies most be put in place before watery pursuits are attempted. At least burn off some calories before the feasting begins.

CHANNEL:  A bit tart and tangy like the fresh cranberry sauce. A few sweet spots to enjoy mixed in among generally troubled waters.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Judge a tree from its fruit, not from its leaves.” - Euripides

Rainfall beginnings with earnest downpour to filter the skies and nourish the soil. Temp all the way up to 59F as the storm brings a tepid warmth as well. Southerly gusts and oceanic thrusts not mixing well this morose morning. Combo factors with extreme early high tide has the ramp and walls awash with spray and concussions. A forlorn quartet views the shambles in hopes of salvaging an ounce of stoke to fuel the soul. A the risk of bearing bad tidings - other pursuits may be more applicable today.

CHANNEL:  What swell may exist from the NW is wholly overcome by tide and S wind vectors. The oppressive grey and windswept sea’s offerings are meager at best and disturbed in all areas. Even the most devoted practitioner is not assessing or undressing this morning.

PATCH:  Full vacancy as grim resignation rules the morning. No swell to propel and only the press of chaos and whitewater trailings. Shapes of any consequence are un-observable and unlikely. With any eye to the future take solace in the simple fact that tomorrow is an new day.

"Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” - Confucius

Gray cloudy covering and no direct sunlight as temps begin at 45. Tis’ the last of day of school and work for most before we all give thanks. Slow auto movements in spaces of choice as the usual dawn patrol warriors make their way to Grandma’s house. High tides swinging over the wall and up the ramp making a wet viewing area. Walking up the stairs to Overlook we go, to get the birds eye view.

CHANNEL:  Calm and glassy ocean surface as the WNW is hiding out for now. Water levels super high and swollen, creating a barrier for any energy to get through. White water crumbling in over big toe height and no one out to play as of yet. As the tide swings back to low late afternoon, opportunity may knock.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” - Melody Beattie

White painted clouds against slivers of blue are a welcomed sight to see. Chilly and cold with temps hovering at 45 in the sun. A windy breeze tickles leaves and runny noses of walkers by. The start of turkey week has begun and those with extra days to spare are trotting into town. Finding parking is the easy part, finding salty water slides are today’s challenge.

CHANNEL:  NW off shore wind swell churning and swirling as high tide rises before receding. Large volumes of water in the Channel proper creating less than ideal conditions. Confused waves coming in at ankle height without certain direction. So far no one out or up for solving the puzzle.

PATCH:  Tiny pieces look as though they should fit together, only to be confused as to why there are extra parts left at the end. Read directions thoroughly before beginning and don’t skip any pages. It may be best to start again tomorrow.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"There are two days of the year that we cannot do anything - yesterday and tomorrow.” - Mahatma Ghandi

Smoke continues to linger and engulf the region while partitions of blue show high above. Brilliant sunrises and sunsets a factor of mass particulate accumulation. Temp ranges and seeks to warm while starting the day at 43F. The moments ahead are heavy with promise but will require intestinal fortitude to brave the elements and find the action. Parking, not yet at full capacity, but visiting the neighborhood. Shapes and shadows that matter are not lost on the stalwart souls in various stages of the process.

CHANNEL:  NW swell eases back and shifts parameters to ignite new quarters. Now finding a basis and bias for the Channel bars both at depth in the interior. Pulsing along and pushing right towards Seadrift where one may find continued options. Smooth and burnished under orange light while the tide has peaked out and will show some restraint today.

PATCH:  Under a blood red sky, a crowd has gathered in black and white. Arms entwined, the chosen few. The newspaper says, says, says it’s true. I will be with you again. I will begin again.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice.” - Bob Marley

Heady N swells while others are quelled and heavy smoke as we rise to no shine with the sun currently concealed. Cooled out to 42F but NE winds are accumulating and will soon clear the cover and allow penetrating rays to shimmer and warm. Tidal heights remain up and up which leaves entry and exits unmarked and contemplative. There is always room for improvement but many a trusted sled will find footing somewhere today.

CHANNEL:  Nary an ounce of beach is to be seen and the Groin pole sits deeper than is customary. Dogs are rejected and may be ejected as the seawall plays the ins and outs game instead of fetch and run. The fury of the ocean not fully unleashed under broader depths of water. NW offerings are no longer fledgling and hold restrained power to be periodically set free.

PATCH:  An early assemblage of newly minted arrivals mixes among the evening’s leftovers to forage freely. Fog and fume led a haze to the views and while not of the cleanest nature they do import smiles. High lines for trimming speed and a propensity to lead right will start the stoke and allow for later exploration. Still enough push from the W to open up options beyond the norm. Is that a pledge pin on your uniform?

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead

Cooler temps and bit of mist to keep the smoke tamped down and tempt the sun to appear. Filtered beams begin to warm though we start at 42F this morning. Cars stream in and out as the procession to obligation and recreation offset each other. Solid and blooming W swell spurring the call to the sea and tides again remain positive along with the stoke outlook.

CHANNEL:  Subdued offerings though swell numbers indicate otherwise. Data charts may be subject to conjecture and refinement while the third eye test tells the truth. Mixed signals along with mixed metaphors may cloud the slider’s gaze towards the sea while a resolute quorum forage through shore-break to investigate. As always, the day will be what you choose to make it.

PATCH:  Early entry tacticians have sights set on what should be a certain future. A knowing nod and wink of the eye replaces any words needed or heeded. Calmed winds spit no froth but rollers borne from the depths are on a path towards shore. Without the act of seeking how would one know the answers?

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The free exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world.” - John Steinbeck

Lightened blue skies takes off the early edge as the sun seeks to warm while we start at 47F. Early risers include those in the academic pursuits and stoke seekers on the run. Unchanging tides make what you see what you get and a new steep angled S has arrived under the cover of dark. Still a hazy residue of smoke to contend with but a dip in the salty brine can revive spirits and outlook.

CHANNEL:  Small NW mixture a hybrid blend but enough to produce under high tide times. The lefts lead the way and the key is bigger board bodes best. Efforts can be rewarded with thigh high slides.

PATCH:  Steepened creepers making their way in upon the mid high tides. Those sitting out the back struggle to find purchase as rollers evaporate before reforming. Security lays in the middle and inner zones where shape is not perfect but rarely ever is.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” - Dr. Seuss

Grayish skies and an easy breeze mixed into a slight smoky haze kicks off the start to the day. Temps hovering around 48 and slowly climbing to ease off the chill. Routine commuters heading over the hill as delivery trucks and school buses swim against the current. Less tidal ebb and flow throughout the day making the ramp entry slippery. If a sandy stroll is what you seek, creative walls and ladders mark the pathway to paradise.

CHANNEL:  Smooth, glassy and winds at a stand still on the oceans surface. Tiny peelers coming in the knee height as the S and SW swell are starting to make an appearance. More lefts than rights and no one out trying to slide. Grab your log and make your way to solitude stoke!

PATCH:  A mirage of far out lines resonate and then disappear, only to make their presence known inside. Don’t be fooled by the temptation on the outside, for close to shore treasure seekers are striking gold.
