Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"I have witnessed the softening of the hardest of hearts by a simple smile." - Goldie Hawn

Chilly and gray are the first words that pop into mind as the sun nowhere to shine for now.  54 with a bite of breeze and a smell of freshness in the air.  Open parking on the approach to the sea, for word has gotten out that south has left the building.  It's Taco Tuesday my friends, whether you prefer corn or flour, make sure you go heavy on the spice.

CHANNEL:  A ticker tape pelican parade is dive bombing the Channel celebrating this mornings anchovies breakfast.  NW swell cannot be seen, nor heard and is no where to be found.  Flat, flat, flat and slow motion white water meanders through in the pinky toe height.  Take a walk or read a book as surfing will have to wait until tomorrow.

PATCH:  Water levels playing limbo games with sharp rocky edges.  Horizontal is the positioning form for today.  Be like Jack-be-nimble and see how low you can go.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Enjoy every sandwich." - Warren Zevon

Moments of breakthrough sunlight, intermixed with a complete envelopment of fog bringing up residual feelings of days past and all that seems to be lacking in days to come. A breath. Let's begin again. Moments of breakthrough sunlight, intermixed with a complete envelopment of fog; what is to come later shall be the strength of the former, with a tango-depletion of the latter. Free parking spaces for meandering around luxuriously. No forecast for anything more than a knee-high. Back to what we know, sharing the solitude with ourselves and the few humans we bid goodday.

CHANNEL:  Pelican bay resonates like a spiritual bouquet. Low levels chase out all human desires, keeping us out by making it seem like our choice. As the day swings so shall the various activities but one thing will always remain clear: we are at her mercy.

PATCH:  Land. Land mass. Take a stroll out to the tip and find small treasures along the way. Stand on the rocks with which our boards may one day run loose upon. For now getting out is staying low in the top ten. One may only look; take in the solitude of what it means to finally breathe.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Nothing else can quite substitute for a well-chosen, well-timed, sincere words of praise.  They're absolutely free and worth a fortune." - Sam Walton

Thick misty gray lingering low and cool, blocking the suns light for now.  A slight breeze nips at damp wetsuits hanging from overnight campers as weekend warriors arrive in search of a coveted spot.  Remnants of yesterdays mayhem can be seen in forms of parking tickets from authorities.  Pay attention to signs and practice patience.  Conversations of, "you should have seen it last week", can be heard all around from the wall to the tennis courts.  South swell has come and gone, leaving the North West windswell in its place.  Pick your longest of logs and keep your fingers crossed.

CHANNEL:  NW windswell creating the perfect playground for the pelican flotilla currently out.  Waves clocking in ankle over toe on the sets as Channel Island is above the surface.  Currently no one out as low tide peaked just now.  As water fills in, keep expectations as low as the swell and hope for the best.

PATCH:  Diving pelicans breaking the waters surface like pebbles skipping on a still lake.  Two stand up paddlers bobbing nowhere searching for apples and coming up empty.  Practice carnival games on land if you wish to win the prize.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness." - Aristotle

Free and easy.  Cool and slightly breezy as the games are set to begin.  Lot jockeys shimmy and shift to promote proper angles and post up for the weekend.  Early morning tide dip already in the past and the filling levels are positive and plentiful throughout the day.  All swells easing back but still in the cruising zone.  A resolved approach is one's best bet, tempered with a measure of patience.

CHANNEL:  Continued NW windswell, the necessary component, is the constitutional ingredient to ignite hope and stoke.  Solidified sandbars await more water as the tide fills and the sea settles.  Allow the elements to come together and see what they desire to form.  Expect thigh high breakers and be grateful if they are consistent and cooperative.

PATCH:  Blanket of silence makes me want to sink my teeth in deep.  Burn all the evidence of fabricated disbelief.  Pull back the curtains and take a look into your eyes.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be." - John Wooden

Continued pilgrimage by the dedicate and deranged in hopes of squeezing in one more session while the S swell continues.  Calm in the moment and 55F though winds have not been cooperative or willing to listen to reason.  Mr Max S. dropping knowledge and history as directional decisions get made.  Clearing skies, initial sun and warm waters add to the aura and though the swells are waning, there is reason to suit up and get wet.

CHANNEL:  Just starting to fill back in with tide and regroup after a long night of steep draining.  The inner workings below a bit exposed in places to give a peek into the underworld.  NW windswell the basic component to getting work done and the Groin bar lefts are responding in the lower level waters.  Log it, mid-length or big floaty fish all have aspects that may be suitable to get slides and promote smiles.

PATCH:  Smooth and sweet under the non-windy conditions.  Swell breakers pushes well outside with the insider view littered with strewn rocks.  Time and tide are needed to unlock full potential and that is playing out as the hours kick by.   Still have an active and agile S swell to provide propulsion but size has come down to more expected daily averages.  SUPs are on it now.  Longboards should find sure footing soon.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Be nice to people on your way up because you'll meet them on your way down." - Wilson Minzer

Shifted winds and sunshine lend a sweetened clarity to the start of the day.  Baking bread aromas waft by to entice and distract.  Cooled off and down to 54F and ripe for the taking even without asking.  S swell remains solid and stable and a magnetic attraction to most.  NW windswell areas left mostly unoccupied and there Serenity can be found.  Early, early low tides for the vampire crew now a non-factor as they push up and up.  Pool or pond?  Either is suitable today.

CHANNEL:  A little misaligned as the tide fights its way back to zero and above.  Battered from outgoing rip but showing signs of smoothing out and being a viable option especially for those wanting to slide the shorter boards.  If you open your eyes and allow all senses to engage you will in fact find what you seek here even if you aren't looking for it.

PATCH:  S swell continues and has benefited from re-programmed winds that allow for a measure of grace to be exhibited.  Popping peaks are well designed and also dispersed to promote regularity and keep all sectors active.  Filling tide should add to the distillation and the crowds as well.  It's out there and you won't have to look far to find it.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Do one thing every day that scares you." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Sweet sunrise over a foggy mountain as we seek to align our pursuits and preferences.  57F and light E winds to kick the mercury up a few ticks.  Car campers and beach sleepers at every turn and all spots filled to capacity.  Solid S swell growing in dimension the causal factor in all the population increase.  A quick check of the tides leaves no doubt that the early morning is not your time though those with hours to kill should reap suitable benefits.

CHANNEL:  A bit low for everyone to give it a go but a fundamental left reels meagerly off the Groin bar.  Limited NW windswell unable to fully function due to low water levels.  S swell reconditioned with less west to allow for slides of merit.  Filling tide will always provide but the initial hours are a bit lacking.

PATCH:  Low tide paddler brigade dominates skimpy conditions.  The night time EPIC nature is over as water levels remain nil.  Still outside breakers though size is significantly diminished and now clocks in at only thigh high - reduced by a factor of 4.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Laughter is life-giving.  It makes you breathe." - Kristin Chenoweth

A slight nip in the air with an easy breeze begins the day.  More cars rolling in town instead of going out as the word on the street has gotten out and all want to participate.  55 with thick gray clouds and eight cars circling in search of parking.  Those who have a spot are moving and grooving to the oceans beat.  Glassy for now and lines everywhere for everyone.  Take turns and remember to be thankful to be out on a Tuesday!

CHANNEL:  Fun, fun, fun!  S and SW swell has arrived and is putting on a show.  Waves clocking in waist to chest on every set with glassy faces and strong shoulders.  Water worshipers are out in full force and are everywhere.  Fun is the name of the game, so is respect and common courtesy.  Practice both!

PATCH:  One times eight is eight, four times two is eight.  You know, eight is a magic number.  Figure eight as double four, figure four as half of eight.  If you surf it will be great, if you could make a figure eight.  That's a circle that turns 'round upon itself.  Place it on it's side and it's a symbol meaning infinity.  Eight is a magic number.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"If you are open-minded and ready to learn, there are many things which you can learn not only from books and instructors but from the very life experience itself" - Haile Selassie

The clouds and sun play touch-and-go as cars whizz by to begin the work week.  A balmy 55 with slight humidity and temperatures climbing.  A sense of calm over town can be felt as the weekend mayhem crowds have slightly dissipated for now.  An easy breeze floats on by slowly lifting tree limbs in modern dance movements.  Dawn patrol warriors carrying battle ship sleds up the ramp in salty suits with smiling faces.  No words need to be exchanged to tell if a good time was had.  One look, one glance and a wink says it all.

CHANNEL:  Glassy gray surfaces with white water A-frames visible to the naked eye.  SW and NW swell are present this morning creating rides in the waist zone.  A little mushy for now as high tide is peaking by noon, then rolling back.  Crowded for a Monday, as word has gotten out that south is hanging around all week.  Chill out and relax if you join the masses.

PATCH:  Lines, lines everywhere and tons of people on them.  No rest for the wicked on this Monday morning, as most have called in sick to ride and slide.  Look both ways and don't drop in.  Refer to our surfing etiquette pamphlet for guidance.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"There is no such thing as a weird human being, it's just that some people require more understanding than others." - Tom Robbins

Restless nights welcome tired mornings with gray blanketed skies and thick humid air.  Silence being cut with the sound of incoming weekender cars praying for an open spot to claim for the day.  Those in the know have already set up camp and are not moving.  Walking to the approach where the sand meets the sea, old familiar faces smile and say hello.  Detailed conversations of framed guacamole from weeks past bring delight and cheer for those who noticed.  One by land, two by sea, if you see Paul Revere, Mike D says it's OK to give him a salt lick.  Just don't ask him for a ride.

CHANNEL:  Obey waterway traffic laws and keep an eye out for boats making their way in and out of the Channel this morning; look both ways while paddling out.  Glassy, calm and jam packed with everyone and their mom already out, hoping to ride and slide without running anyone over; look both ways while paddling out.  NW and SW pumping waves in the waist to chest height all across Channel proper.  Don't be a kook, practice patience and wait your turn.  There is plenty to go around.

PATCH:  If solitude is what you seek then look elsewhere.  Tiny black dots scattered across the entire surface, like black peppercorns on a properly seasoned steak ready for grilling.  Make sure the coals are at the right temperature for the perfect sear.  Rushing the process may result in being burned.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"I'm sorry. If you were right, I'd agree with you." - Robin Williams

Morning melodies sing out in what one does not hear but rather, what one feels. An airy blanketed overhang with a blissful temp brings tranquility to all within range. Pushing us forward is time however, and with it we take a tentative step towards mayhem. Weekend warriors out to play, bringing school buses and hammocks to cover spaces. Let us never forget, we are visitors here. Pack.It.Out. And for those still to come, bite early or find elsewhere. Swells muddle in the inbetween but I whisper to the wind and listen as she speaks of something moving from down under. Numbers in high quantities, slides in qualities of where your mindset lays.

CHANNEL:  The land and water have been peopled with Calibans, claiming a right to an area they cannot truly call themselves a Native to. Tidal movements play effect in slideable blips but supply appears to be a lay-low and demands skyrocket. Standers and layers, movers and groovers, all, everything, and anything is happening.

PATCH:  Peaks to break too far in. Fallacy testing the resilience of the lone-ranger. Pay mind to the medium through which the energy may carry you. Too much and too little are real variables here. Look, understand and slide when appropriate. Look. Understand. Slide when chosen from within.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Action is the foundational key to all success." - Pablo Picasso

Warm waters under misty skies with Karl the Fog back in town.  Swirling outcomes with SW winds leading the early charge and sunshine may have to wait until the afternoon hours.  58F outside and abandoned asphalt stretches save for a few lingering hopefuls.  Newly validated NW windswell seeks collaboration with fading SW swell.  Lots of ins and outs and what have you factors today as we consider the best time to leap.

CHANNEL:  We have seen the high tide peak and perform uneventfully and marginal in matters of slides.  Too full and fat with water.  Too wind chaffed and coarse as currently constructed.  The NW windswell is waiting and willing but a balance must be struck before its true nature can be determined.  Longboards highly recommended for all approaches.

PATCH:  The tiny remnants of the weakened SW swell may well still produce during a calm and serene moment.  Do not despair but keep expectations tempered and realistic if you seek a slice of stoke.  Tide levels and water coverage are more than adequate throughout the entire day but other components need to coalesce to bring out the true meaning of the Patch.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Happiness is a gift and the trick is not to expect it, but to delight in it when it comes." - Charles Dickens

Idle hours and apparitions as we conjure courage to embrace the wet neoprene.  Overcast skies with a hint of moisture being pushed by S winds coat the lashes and blur the eyes.  58F and a bit messy upon the waters.  NW and SW swells remain functional but deteriorated.  It's wild and free and out there for the taking.

CHANNEL:  Tattered and mildly textured surfaces doing little justice to the sandbars below.  Water, water everywhere but very little organized into functional breakers.  Pushed well into the mouth of the Channel may be cause for inspection but the rides are short and the effort is long.  A jaunt across to Seadrift may yield a surprise or two for those yearning to take the plunge.

PATCH:  Succumbing to S winds and expiring swell we find limited options to view and even less to potentially slide.  The windows always close before they open and the afternoon incoming tide may shed some light onto happier times.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." - Albert Einstein

Grey day will lead the way to the edge of the Earth where we all jump in.  Fully humid and 58F with no winds to speak off and a glassed off ocean topcoat.  Tide fluctuations not a deterrent to entering the water though swells are only lightly manifesting.  Shrug off conventional wisdom and slide when and where you want to experience true freedom.

CHANNEL:  No commotion or much locomotion while the NW windswell seeks to rise and shine.  Dropping tide lessening the ride though sandbars in the region are firm and primed.  There is growth potential in the air as new energy is summoned and may extrapolate on the afternoon fuller tides.

PATCH:  Minor and miniature movements both seen and felt.  Below knee high with patella aspirations.  Lustrous and glassy in the early and calm hours.  Possibilities are always in existence if you are open to new experiences.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't.  What you've got to do is turn around and say 'watch me'." - Layne Beachley

Hungry lambs munching on hillsides as baby deer watch in the distance waiting for their fair share.  Morning salutations from friendly neighbors and passersby starting the day off with good intentions and positive vibes.  A mild 54 with high humidity and gray covering begins a familiar pattern with sun and warmth creeping in by mid-day.  Open parking as those in the know have timed their adventure to sea with the tides.  Make your to-do's, check the boxes once complete and save the surfing for last.

CHANNEL:  One lone fisherman out standing in the center of the Channel as knee high slow motion white water rolls in.  The roles have changed as the NW swell is now the primary with the SW in second position.  Not a lot of push or energy as the tide is retreating for now.  Come afternoon, little nuggets of rides and slides should magically appear.

PATCH:  Calm and still with mirror reflections of pelican wings gliding silently over.  Off in the distance the meeting rocks white flag is laying in a sleeping position.  Don't poke the bear.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Everywhere you go, take a smile with you." - Sasha Azevedo

Woodpecker beats set the foundation for this mornings feathered chorus melody.  Those who commute are well on their way as summer campers make way to the salty sea for fun and games.  A gray backdrop with a slight breeze as temps start at 54.  Negative tides in full effect creating the perfect treasure hunting playground.  Pack your crystals safely in pockets for cleansing and recharging while waiting patiently for the tide to turn.  Those who try and wait will reap the most rewards.

CHANNEL:  A sandy pelican playground in Channel proper as the tide drains out this morning.  Fishermen standing far out casting lines and chatting over coffee.  The SW/S swells are hiding on the horizon and should make a fabulous return this afternoon.  Not enough water to even go wading, sit back relax and wait.

PATCH:  ROCK /rak/ - noun - The solid material forming part of the surface of the earth and other similar planets.  Exposed on the surface or underlying the soil or oceans.  "the ocean flowed through a jumble of rocks"

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Everything is practice." - Pele

Velveteen gray, thick and silky overhead, keeping any sign of wind and sun at bay.  A cozy 55 start to what may tap out 72.  Early birds have already snatched up what parking was left from over night campers.  Hurry up and wait is the name of the game as tidal shifts are in the negative for now.  Turn on the radio or download the app and settle in for the World Cup Final.  Whether its France or Croatia, the end result will be some of the best penalty acting ever seen.

CHANNEL:  Sand, sand everywhere and not a wave in sight.  Slow ocean motion can be seen on the horizon with teeny tiny lines.  As water fills-in starting around 12pm, the S/SW swell will reappear for afternoon delight.  Practice patience as you make your way to stoke and bliss.

PATCH:  Drained out, little water movement and rocky with Duxbury reef fully exposed.  Quite a sight to see and if you look hard enough, a very special rocky message appears in the distance.  "Happy Birthday Rachel."  May your day be special and merry, thank you for being amazing!

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You're entirely bonkers.  But I'll tell you a secret, all the best people are." - The Mad Hatter

Drained yet unrestrained as fledgling stoke seekers take early flight.  Balmy airs at 60F and blue beginning to burst through the coastal cloud cover.  No rustle of branches or unsavory winds to ruffle and what water there is has a smooth sheen and shine.  Still receiving energy and opportunity from a pesky and peaky NW windswell while the SW remains firmly rooted and activated.  Both require more tide to unleash their true natures and flourish.

CHANNEL:  Well I know the tide will turn, I know the tide will turn....  I know the tide will turn, I know the tide will turn...  I know the tide will turn...  I know the tide will turn.

PATCH:  Flaccid waves converge, on a rock hard strip of concrete, near a field of green.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Behind the cloud the sun is still shining." - Abraham Lincoln

Serenity reigns and all remains calm in the morning hours.  Overcast though we know clarity is coming.  Warm already at 61F and thankfully no winds blow.  All is quiet with the tide swinging negatively low.  Buoy study reveals the forces of nature we hope will translate to later stoke.  A gracious NW windswell has desires on Channel sandbars when water returns.  Altered SW swell has veered course and is situated for Patch impact in the afternoon hours.  What one does with the in-between hours will be your true measure.

CHANNEL:  Surf casting for fish - yes.  Surf Board riding for pleasure - no.  Tide too low. Nowhere to go.  Come back later after crystal and tide book consultation.

PATCH:  Well out past all meeting rocks a tribe of carbon fiber wielding lancers goes.  With no water available the swell is barred at the door for now.  Allow time to pass at its leisurely pace and you will be suitable rewarded at some point in the day.  Try Wait.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Discontent is the first necessity of progress." - Thomas Edison

Steady S winds and healthy fog above.  Extreme low tides and damp streets below.  58F and balmy with humidity thrown in.  A fine morning to initially stay deep beneath the blankets and hibernate.  Nature calls outside the door with fox and deer foraging.  Current swells irrelevant at present time and textured it the best way to describe the ocean.  If more movements are on the way they will reveal themselves in the later hours and under positive water levels.

CHANNEL:  Sand island exposure with the larger being inhabited by pelicans and the smaller under the control of 4 seals.  The space between may be a battle ground for territory but it is the only action worth watching in the early morning.  NW windswell exists but is not presently able to form breakers.

PATCH:  A SW swell still resides in the ocean depths yet its power and propensity remains a mystery.  All water has receded to nothing and below.  Rock pile navigation will be the morning mode and post lunch observations may show the next potential.  One human is giving it a long, hard look.  He may know something we don't.
