Imported light winds as a construct of the morning and someone pulled the plug in the tub and let all the water drain out. Empty rectangular bags of all manner and dripping neoprene costumes denote an activity underway or recently completed. Though a moderate NW windswell resides no remnant of any S can be discerned. Many regard the sea without much curiosity and make their harried way into the breech. Temps are moderate at 54F without the benefit of any sun as it remains permanently cloaked in cloud. If all you ever wanted was the truth then today you will find it.


CHANNEL: Here harbors the misguided masses as they cavort in a sub-sea level playground.   No water / No problem as the angular configuration pushes rights headlong across bars in a direction rarely seen. Mainly waves that are best suited for log proners as witnessed in real time.  Fun is where you find it and today is resides here?


PATCH: The road to rejection is better than no road at all.

A fine mist clings windshields and mylar bags as they sit atop vehicles as a fog of merit hangs low, adding an air of the ominous to the proceedings. Though the sun may make itself known, that will only be after day has grown, and perhaps  not even then. A head count larger than the powers of observation would justify stares into a silent sea, as the proverbial pin drops. Nary a one of these souls could be found among the chilly waters, and with  good reason. Look towards the future, and study the charts, as only love can break your heart.



CHANNEL: A solitary angler  is seemingly being coached on technique by Shoeless Joe, and the limousines wait in the street.



PATCH: Though a handful sit and stare at what's not there, the most resigned among the  observers know that today screams less than zero over humid zephyrs.

Heady grays as we gaze through early morning haze as the mercury stands watch at 56 degrees. No bare feet scuffle on sandy blacktop at present, as the aquatic offerings leave much to be desired. Low tides provide no rides, as even the anglers and dog wranglers are seeking another half hour of shut-eye. The kind of silence sought by monks and new parents stretches over exposed beach and dances over rocks of designation.



CHANNEL: Stare into the void, and know it offers only a crushing nothing.



PATCH: Though this space may be the place as hours pass and waters rise, a meager S seeks desperate purchase  upon moody sandbars and plays through today, as we look back in anger.

A silence of import rolls over a sun-drenched village in these early hours. One can feel a stillness that runs deeper than the seas. 'Tis a day to reevaluate and take stock of the often harsh realities of the slider's life. Stare into the proverbial heart of darkness, as it were. Sequester with black tea and sympathy. Find joy in simple memory, as the other options are greatly limited.



CHANNEL: Surely, you can't be serious? I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.



PATCH: The oceanic version of a cancelled flight and an abandoned airport. Everything is closed and the only refuge is found on a tiled floor. Lake BoBo rules the wasteland....

Sitting ducks wait patiently for some swell. Maybe practice your hand stands or shoot the stuff with fellow surfers as this might take a while. The low tide seems to be rocking the surfers to sleep and the only thing rolling in is the cool fog from the bay. This morning looks like a day to do some yoga on your favorite SUP.

A less than fresco-ed sky as coastal overcast presides upon this wild weekend.  Damp streets mesh with sandy feet of those stretching out the kinks in a seemingly endless cycle of rinse and spin.  Some easing onshore flow has left a textured facade upon which to work with.  Negatively low tide is not helping the vibe either.   Swell remnants do remain but will require much magnetic moon pull to entice the masses.


CHANNEL: Microwaved hot dog lefts for the RC surfer cult as no water present has cleared this lineup.  What reels across the shallows is not fit for humans or finned boards but seems fairly rippable for GI Joe.  As a measure of NW windswell does remain this spot may see increased action as the tide reverses fortune and flows back in.  For now Try Wait.  For later Try Maybe.


PATCH: Big decisions causing endless revisions in one's mind as rocky shores beckon forth.  Well outside in the land of the lost bobs Cha-Ka and Sleestak alike.  Will and Holly Marshall contemplate the journey one must undertake to join the party and if the effort will yield rewards.  All dimensional portals are open if you are willing to step inside.

Passing winds of change have left the type of serenity and sunshine one usually dreams about.  Temps have been whipped and dipped and now settle at 48F but clearing skies should have temps on the rise and predictions have removed real washing rain from our future.  Cautious sliders emerge from all manner of vehicle and direct glances upon exposed sands.  Rocky outcroppings are the dominant feature though low rollers generated from a hearty NW windswell are meandering towards shore at unplanned intervals. 


CHANNEL: Low and slow as recently bottomed tide has sandbars rearing and knee high lefts searing across the grit.  Little lefts lacking punch or proficiency have seekers contemplating and calculating the tidal shift.  No current mobilization this direction by the suited and booted but deep thoughts are being processed. 


PATCH: Languishing upon low tide shores as a minor S swell shows well outside where the covenant of paddles lives.  Logs loaded, the insomniacs among us head blindly into the breech foraging for morsels to keep the stoke alive.

Hazy and lazy and we cast glances upon the sea while shielding eyes from sunshine overload.  Shifting sands have migrated thoroughly and brought with them a beach approaching fuller levels.  Tasty early morning temps with the thermometer already on the rise.   Just a mid-period NW windswell upon the waters but finding a slight foothold upon shallow bars.  Lesser days have brought joy to slider's hearts as we attempt to always view the glass as half full.  


CHANNEL: The hopeful and hearty crew lends credence to how low it can go.  Fighting the comeback tide reveals shallow breakers and kneecap shakers with more feet traveled than ultimate yardage. 



PATCH: An emerging SW swell sets sights upon these shores but for now remains quiet and under wraps.  Perhaps in time with more pushing tide the energies of the ocean may make themselves known to all.  An empty landscape tends to speak volumes without saying a word yet those with a keen eye have dusted off their big logs.....

A deafening sunlight casts shadows over exposed sand and romping canines as the mercury is already three feet high and rising. A  mixed and muddled NW seeks purchase in calm seas. The zephyrs blow so low as to be eerily absent, and only marginal ways and halcyon days remain. Vacant line-ups make for empty hearts, but this is the way of today. Center all energies, and await something made from nothing. 


CHANNEL: What is the sound of one wave clapping. First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain....



PATCH: Knee-cappers and candy wrappers roll in inconsequential seas, as nary a soul makes way once more into the breech. Hope springs eternal, but may be more than misguided. As the hourglass grows heavy, and the higher tides seek colder waters, slope and shadow look to improve.

A brightly lit haze hangs over BO-BO daze as a hint of heat already is palpable. A handful of stalwarts seek the last gasps of the ever-mythical "south", but the number of watercraft that sit idle on sandy blacktop should speak volumes. Glassy, not trashy, with minimal breezes currently, however the incoming tidal push seems to simply overwhelm all other shapes, shadow, and possibility.


CHANNEL: Tall shadows cast as those suited and booted literally stare in confusion, and seem to wander to and fro on exposed beach. Gazing longingly into calm waters, looking for something that no longer remains, like a lover's memory. Disdain and heartbreak is all that is found. Selah.



PATCH: Paddles, paddles, everywhere, and not a drop to drink. Those intent on greeting the dawn stand in curious poses, and feel the heat. Those seeking solace and stoke are advised to contemplate other matters until seas retreat after mid-morning, as lumpy, not pumpy is the menu offering...

A disparate fog clings to hillsides hither and yon, yet a clear and bright sun shines upon rocky shorelines in the first hours. Steady zephyrs hold a bite and touch of a chill, but the mercury looks to rise to the true taste of late spring as day proceeds. A veritable rogue's gallery is gearing up for getting down, with the departing S swell eeking and geeking some flavor from the cold stew of sea. Prepare to earn your smiles this morning, as the real action requires upper-body motion of some merit, but the rewards are promising...


CHANNEL: Windy whitecaps as determined lefts roll forward, albeit slowly. A trio sits just outside steel pole bathtubs to assess and redress. A lone scout has sought far outside action, and this gamble is providing dividends, as the tidal waters continue the morning march.


PATCH: Paddle in hand the masses do stand and find classic slow and low BO. A baker's dozen seeks satisfaction from the beloved potato patch at first light. Marginal ways and lazy days, as a careening peeler holds on as long as you can, and bobs and weaves as it  hopes to deceive. Won't you be my neighbor?

Daily Surf Report - 5/15/2016

A hushed calm descends before chaos is unleashed as we stumble though the second half of the weekend. Gone is the foggy mist that dampens spirits to be replaced by clearing skies and sunlit hilltops. Side-shore grooming breezes may ruffle hair but also lends a helping hand to keep peaks aligned. S swell lingers and is conjugated with some Westerly additions. NW windswell shifty and overshadowed in the initial dawn. Long shadows are cast upon marginal beach expanses and those early risers have already harvested their daily sustenance.


CHANNEL: A touch of texture as light winds shift along to find purchase.  Tide at capacity has put all the elements in play and lesser lefts do emerge and advance for a trio of worthy sliders.  Size is down a touch and less likely to damage fragile foam though mind the outgoing tide as it tends to provide shallow conditions.

Daily Surf Report - 5/14/2016

Blood suckers mix with rug cutters in the dark before dawn has broken.  Whispered alliances and hushed tones apply.  Fangs bared and capes wrapped tight.  Night creatures stir as does Mother Ocean with a mid-period NW windswell and a vacillating steep S in occupation.  Filigree light trickles through from fog drenched hill tops and light wind brings a tickle of texture to the terrain. Molted and hollow crustaceans litter the landscape and canines frolic and dig the scene. Tidal treasures are not currently revealed as a plentiful portion allows for full fledged coverage. 


CHANNEL: Languishing lefts lurch and a sentinel strokes for entry.  Not the stuff of lore nor legend but legitimate ledges that can and will fuel those hungry for stoke.  A satisfying mix of waist high walls that open and close without much forethought or reasoning.  Fishing kayaks currently outnumber those with surfing on their minds and in their hearts. 


PATCH: First light - first left as the day breaks wide open.  Idle chit chat interrupted by smooth slides and glides with occasional exhortation upon a whim.  A dichotomy of styles exhibited at all turns with necessary portions for all and more for others.  S swell regains a foothold and delivers treats to those with karmic positivity.  Oh yeah I like it like that.  Somebody bring me a plate of sassafras.

Waning night gives into a calm morning as serene prophecies lend a general quiet to the dawn.  Remnants are all that remain of recent surges as swells dissolve back to the sea from which they came.  Do not let the unlucky day be a deterrent or keep your glued to the wall as there are mingling masses moving forth with board in hand and booted feet.  Today is not a complete impostor nor altogether devoid of any qualifications.  One must decide to seek before one can find. 


CHANNEL: A feeling of redemption as tidal turning is slaked and not draining with past ferocity.  A more settled terrain though no more occupied than in days past.  The early incoming push had Mali-Bo determined to work but the passing hours now negates this option.  Outer lefts form, foment then gurgle through with sections worthy of a drop and turn.  Most vanish pronto - some hang in for the medium haul. 


PATCH: Smooth like butter.  Slather it on.  Mouse treats for all with size appropriate to those involved sliders.

Daily Surf Report - 5/12/2016

Delve into a new day with enlightenment on your mind and stoke as your guide.  Let not the overcast skies dim your mood as they are portents of slack winds and velvety surfaces.  A draining tide has set the priority level on high as pillar and sand will soon be exposed.  The walls remain empty and rightly so as it is far better to do than to discuss.


CHANNEL: Tops torn though not by wind but a ripping tide that leaves chaos in its wake and takes all prisoners.  An uninhabited wilderness with the Northern cousin having lured all likely sliders.  Solo session available for those with a strong constitution and a desire to paddle. 


PATCH: Inconsistent but stalwart SW swell has the farthermost reaches of the Patch bristling with excitement.  Varnished peaks pop and those plying their trade are of the lay-down paddling tribe known as Logjammers.  No matter your affiliation there is something for all parties in the early dawn and lefts and rights lurch lovingly along.  Lulls may be a factor but the wait is overruled by the deliverance.

Vessels a sailing as paddle boards wash up on today's super low tide. The only promise of surf is if a ship creates some sort of wake. Wake up and say Happy Mothers Day to your mom or mother figure. The cold fog and mist brings a few morning birds to the exposed rock, possibly hoping for a salty treat. Otherwise, today is looking to be a lazy Sunday.

Damp and dank as we unwind from slumber and greet the weekend head on.  What limited resources are present paints a bleak picture for early morning victories as tide drains and drains below zero.  Optimistic notes are related to the calm atmosphere, temp of 55F, no precipitation (though skies are forbidding) and still some energetic swell lurking and lingering while waiting for more water upon which to display itself.  Rides and slides are certainly possible but after your morning coffee has been fully consumed. A great day to shop for that new summer sled as S swells soon come.
