Daily Surf Report - 12/28/2016

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Accept who you are; and revel in it
." - Mitch Albom

Peaking NW swell moves up a few clicks to 305 degrees.  Temps have overnight frosty inclinations but now rise to 43F with zero winds and red/orange/green skies.  Many clans with ocean going plans are posted up and unloading their vessels of stoke.   A fine Winter day to be outside and wave offerings enough to temp even the most jaded slider.

CHANNEL:  Not quite feeling the love as in past few days as current angle of inception just missing the mark.  Still whomping fold-overs but more will close out than provide openings.  A bobbing pod seeking simple rights are mostly mesmerized by the overall beauty of the day.  Would it help if I got out and pushed?

PATCH: Saltwater salvation in random distributions.  Incoming tide helping with an extra push but soon will engulf and swamp.  A bit temperamental on the outside with the inner Snags developing speed, shape and form.  Social niceties are randomly observed with differing results in each case.  Wave height striving for waist to chest high measurements in best case scenarios.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new
." - Albert Einstein

Diminished dew points mingle in the chill to frost all surfaces in a white crystal dusting.  The sun has risen upon pure skies and brought our early temps along and up to 36F.  Light winds and from the E again signal some potential warmth but also groomed facades.  New period NW swell builds and beckons those looking for more.  Incoming tide lends a hand for that extra push over the edge.  Water thermal reading holding steady and ready at 53F.

CHANNEL:

I'm wearin'
Fur pyjamas
I ride a
Hot Potata'
It's tickling my fancy
Speak up, I can't hear you

PATCH: Deep water deliveries have stand up paddlers scurrying along the outside reaches.  Middle territories prevail with modest rights and silky faces.  Rights working and reaching towards the waist have all loggers up wrangling and riding in the chilled out morning.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You'll never find peace of mind until you listen to your heart
." - George Michael RIP

Moon slivers and cold shivers as icy inland temps start the day.  Beach climate welcomes with cleared skies and lighter NE winds now updating temps to 43F.  Gusty overnite gales, perhaps generated by Santa's sleigh, have put the textured tops on brimming high tide warbles.  Attempting to settle and solidify as new NW swell delves to replace the old.  If you didn't get all the presents opened yesterday what is left currently are the scaps.

CHANNEL: Stuffed full with tide and huffed out with nighttime winds.  Lookers and lurkers make quick decisions about donning suits as pickings remain slim, but the early lineups are empty.  A few inside Mali-Bo rights entice with the last of the incoming tide push.  Whoever wants to have it solo style can and will - but for how long.

PATCH: Dropping off and out as the NW fades and awaits reinforcements.  A bit of S wind-swell offers only glances and glimpses. Only on the inside do waves reach folding levels.  You gotta have faith.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving ." - Og Mandino

A drop in temp and size as NW forces continue to decay.  Another 1" of rainfall soaks hills and allows for greenery to flourish.  Now the storm has passed and winds have ceased in order to foster groomed watery surfaces.  38F air and cold, damp roads.  Gentle blue skies that do not weep.  High tide on the rebound and good tidings and joy to all those partaking in briny solutions.

CHANNEL: Shifted sandbars still seeking final alignment seem to work better on less swell.  The opportunity for form and function to coordinate exists with waist high + rollers seeking sliders.  Lessened water levels should help the shape a bit moreFor now, throw tradition out the window and ride how you like.

PATCH: Softened hues above and slinky glides below.  Full of water and burgeoning with non-shoppers.  A holiday log-fest and the invite says bring the big stick.  Thigh / waist high deliveries with orders to get the gifts out by the end of the day.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there." - Unknown

Rain to dampen roads but not spirits as the holiday countdown continues and miracles are on the horizon.  Resolute at 47F with moderate S winds in play.  Dense NW swell in stages of decay still showing and glowing with energy to spare.  Knocked down but not out by onshore winds - there are still discernible shapes though the form has taken a beating.

CHANNEL: Less in size and profile as positive NW energy meets negative gusting winds.  Chopping off wave tops and generally dismantled offerings have most staring and few caring.  Peaked tide allows for less surf rides though mats, boogies and hand-planes may find the whomping to their likings.

PATCH: The inner Snags show some vital wind protection and currently have the toothy jags covered.  Boils and bubbles will direct while pinnipeds view the activity with feigned interest.  The potential for surfboard riding exists for those determined to make it a reality.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Defeat is not the worst of failures.  Not to have tried is the true failure." - George Edward Woodberry.

No shoes, no shirt, no hood, no gloves, no boots - No Problem.  Daybreak tiptoes and non-careless whispers set all plans in motion this fine frosty morning.  Bright and clear skies full of vitamin D now heat air temps all the way up to 40F.  Large NW swell continues its assault upon coastal enclaves without the optimum angle to properly penetrate this sleepy village.  There are waves being produced, deduced and reduced with rides a function of the crystal principle.

CHANNEL: Expansive waters moving to and fro as swell + tide collide.  Heavy bands of motion not ideally suited at present time as just too much of everything is no bueno.  There are rides that are short lived and those that go nowhere.  Seadrift experience seems similar and different all at the same time.

PATCH: One wave motorcades as sets brewing well outside have distant riders poised.  High tide frothers fend off wobbles to unlock the inner riddle and extend rides.  Most will find the shore and end with a whomp or a whimper.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." - Mark Twain

Winter Solstice arrives and brings a breath of warmer air with morning temps climbing to 45F.  Clearing skies dotted with puffs of clouds which are dissipating upon gentle E winds.  The axial tilt of Earth and gyroscopic effects of its daily rotation are combining with new levels of NW swell and blossoming waves are in the offering.  The elliptical orbit may slow time for brief moments today so approach with gusto as the day ends with the earliest of sunsets.

CHANNEL: Sleepers, creepers and ramp seepers even on the outgoing tides.  United swells coalesce and join forces with sets that will swamp but also pitch forwards and unfold.  As the water mass decreases an expectation of shape shifting actualization may occur.  For now goodness comes in all forms and sizes and smooth ocean faces make for happy surfer graces.

PATCH: Tuned in and gently turned on as some of the NW energy meets and greets.  Higher tides make for warbled rides - but rides are rides and nourish the stoke.  The suited and booted wind their way along narrow passages with
a distinct destination in their sights.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Where the senses fail us, reason must step in." - Galileo Galilei

As the holidays come the swell seems to be on vacation as it disappears in to the thin air. Newly formed NW swell may just need time and inception angle adjustment to fully realize potential here in Bolinas.  38F air temps have some spots icy though the sun's warming rays will soon have the day thawed out.  Some fun rides will eventually come and go as you must be patient to get your slide on.

CHANNEL: Acting up but not acting out with less showing than expected. Hopes run high this time of year but not all wishes are granted. Currently minor swell in this section as most of the small fun rides occur in the Patch.

PATCH: About knee high like always but fun simple waves do come rolling in. Be warned that afternoon high tide my rupture the pathway to a novice day at sea. For now - go out catch some waves and just have fun with it on this early Tuesday morning.

"Wherever you are - be all there." - Jim Elliot

The small NW swell hits the beach and creates ankle to knee high rideable waves. As the water now stands at 53F its much warmer than the 38F frigid air temperature. Some fun rides take place today and there will be better surf in future days.

CHANNEL: It may be slow and small but you can take that and have so much fun here as people hit the water in search of new rides. Today maybe well be the day for you! Even though it's cold and small we all started somewhere and might as well make the best of things while you still can.

PATCH: Some rights dragging in and it's ankle to knee high everywhere today. More rides occuring in the Patch as the swell seems to be acting on the rocky outcroppings. Go try and make the fun last as you wait for your next ride to victory.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"I spent a year in that town, one Sunday." - George Burns

As the first suited come steaming out of the waters not much swell is being observed here in Bolinas today. It's frigid times with minor lines with only a small NW swell to contend with. With the temperature dropping below freezing, be warned black ice has occurred. 53F in the deep blue sea and was 27F outside but now sits at a balmy 40F. As the day goes on the sun will make it just a little warmer and perhaps the surf will improve.

CHANNEL:  Less to be found as the fading swell has pulled a vanishing act. Size of your log will be in direct correlation with wave harvesting
as few waves are seen other than a janky shore break.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit." - Moliere

Listener sponsored Gospel radio sets the mood and uplifts the spirit.  Jah moonlight illuminates the path and shows The Way.  Mother Ocean withholds all gifts yet doles out periodically.  For now we must contend with faded NW windswell as we anxiously await the new delivery.  Frosty temps become the norm as do crystal clear skies, no winds and radiant sunshine.  34F makes for toasted toes that welcome warmer waters.  A day that may fulfill some wishes and dash others.

CHANNEL:  As low tide begins to push back it reveals the inner workings of the Mali-Bo enclave.  Once up and running the ripple of the day promotes length if not size.  City lights twinkle in the background as the day enlarges and a dawn duo considers Seadrift opportunities.

PATCH:  The smallest of S swells, hidden under lacking waters is what we seek and search for.  Today will be the day for the longest of sleds as trusty steeds may find suitable morsels.  More water in the form of incoming tide may provide the impetus to mobilize those stymied by less than expected.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less." - C. S. Lewis

Raging waters have receded leaving us with sunshine and clear skies over verdant hillsides.  Temps have taken a slight dip down to 48F putting a little shimy shiver into motion.  Now NE winds are present with sleek grooming desires.  A healthy NW windswell is the offspring of the recent storm with a very tiny background S swell in play.  Glassy ocean surfaces are a welcome sight after recent winds and blustery conditions.  All roads are now clear and passable but drive cautiously as they can be slick.

CHANNEL:  Sedate and serene morning to literally soak it all in. Drying out in the sun like sitting on the dock of the bay.  Some right yielding rollers are in the offering as we settle in for the long haul.  Incoming tide should help as size remains under waist high currently.

PATCH:  A touch of S swell may be enough to motivate the masses to move forth.  Secondary swell options may end up taking precedence here if logging is in the cards for you today.  Knee high +

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Tears are the summer showers to the soul." - Alfred Austin

Not a soul to be found in the cooling waters of Bolinas. 53F in the water as high tide ruptures the form of the ankle to knee high NW swell. Some may say perfect time to learn how to surf and those who say so may try though there is a lack of form and stability. Try to make the best of things even though it's 46F outside day still comes with some perks like this beautiful Monday.

CHANNEL: Too much water to have the good form and nice glassy texture we seek.  It sits flat in the Channel just waiting for the tide to flush out. Small chance of just ankle high waves in the afternoon do to the nonexistent swell.

PATCH:  Surfers waiting till the tide drops as some good leaner rides come into play today. Small swell forms after high tide. Might not be the best day to surf so try something new and make it the best of times.

Be mindful while taking assessments from the boat ramp as the high tide has the propensity to slam into the wall and flow all the way up your pants just soaking everything you wear.  For now just a shore break in the center of the beach with a meager NW swell not able to find its way back home. The sun has risen as the day begins with not much surf to entice.  It is 45F outside and back to 53F in the cold mysterious ocean.

CHANNEL: Major high tides are bumming out the rides as a lack of shape creates much consternation.  Where does everyone go on their Sunday morning surf day?

PATCH:   With too much water rushing over the rocks no real form is being manufactured. Minor chance of swell later in the day when water levels flush out. For now - Try Wait.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The smallest deed is better than the greatest intention." - John Burroughs

Definitive deluge with a 99.9% chance of soakings.  Heavy stuff starts early and continues on.  Minor SE winds putting a lump on the bump as NW swells continue to prevail.  Outside temps hold steady at 56F while the ocean dips again and now reports 54F.  You're going to get wet anyway.

CHANNEL: Full tides deliver no rides as just too much water to allow for adequate fold-overs.  A few out front / boat ramp breakers have eyes on them but not many actual takers of chance so far.  Fair weather surfing is over for the moment.  This now requires more thought process and a committed undertaking.

PATCH:  Graced with some in general wind protection here we stare out over great expanses hoping to discern a rideable shape.  Occasional inside fare as water meets land has the hopeful leaning but not leaping this direction.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The past cannot be changed.  The future is yet in your power." - Mary Pickford

As the rain wages on there is a quieting of the winds which opens small windows of opportunity.  A small, but long period NW swell begins to fill in today and still backed with SW windswell aiming to add confusion and collusion to the mix.  Apparitions seem to appear and dissolve into foggy recess as the early eager forge ahead. Temp all the way up to 55F with cloud coverage in total.  Light rains and mellow S winds.

CHANNEL: Wavestorm Wranglers jonesing  for stoke will not be deterred.  Mild movements in opposite directions seem to send sliding sentinels forwards at random intervals.  That early high tide now retreating has access easy and softer settings once upon the waters.

PATCH:

The hurtings on me, yeah
I will never be free, no, my baby, no no
You gave a promise to me, yeah
And you broke it, and you broke it, oh no
