Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won't work." - Thomas Edison

The morning sun has already succeeded in burning off the overhang, leaving the tranquil texture of water surfaces even more serene as the sun warms our faces. This beauty is unparalleled, and the joy emanating from those around is palpable. Friendly neighbors, morning stoke, and little else matters today. Change is in the air and the water as swells begin to change up so look towards tomorrow but be mindful and stay in the present first. It's a day to live, go outside.

CHANNEL: Here, there, and multiplying. Filling up from a major low, the water levels not only increase the possibilities but also the energies with it. Some bodies but no ducking and dodging as these are those in the know-how. Give a wave, a smile, and enjoy what she has to offer.

PATCH: Look elsewhere if your desires are other than a float, contemplation, and some reevaluation. Peaceful and lacking in the mornings and evenings.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"I don't broadcast every high and I don't hide every low. I'm trying to live. I'm not trying to convince the world I have a life." - Rob Hill

We are greeted this morning with many visits from fellow fat, blubbery, ocean dwellers and gifted with smooth, glassy surfaces. A blanketed, light dome surrounds us this morning but the promise of a burn off is guaranteed. We are in our own world here and we like this world very much. Temperatures stay nice and are predicted to rise as the sun comes out to play. Tidal movement becoming drastic and on the rise though swells and windswells are as we've seen for a steady period of time. Calm, tranquil, and open we all are here to be challenged, to learn, and to transcend.

CHANNEL: A busy bee, taking up all the attention and providing something short and sweet. Walk to your destination, carry a longboard, and enjoy. Many bodies, sufficient movement, and low pressure. To build later as transitions come, and a hope for a decrease in population.

PATCH: A kayak, some seals, a couple o' birds and some still water. Too much H2O leaves this area vacant of active energy, and awaiting a decrease to begin the jams. Tranquility to come, just not ideal at high / low tides.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be." - Kurt Vonnegut

A morning when the sun glints off the water and simultaneously fills your body with warmth and burns your eyes without mercy. The ultimate juxtaposition, for the Earth has the capability to bring pure joy to your life and crush you like an ant all at once. For a cheery morning vibe, we got it here. Empty lots, though loggers are rising by the minute. Morning tranquility keeps the winds at the bay for now, and with the change in tidal corses we are greeted once more with that nifty NW windswell and the steep-stupored S swell to jive once more. Suns a gun, and a bun ain't bad for a run; out here though, we are not gunning for your respect but rather for some calm winds, and raw stoke.

CHANNEL: Minute forces allow the solo traveler to embark on a journey of relearning how to stand. Full of somethings and drained of other, a treat may be grabbed sooner than later, but foresight in this art will allow many to catch it twice.

PATCH: A beautiful, pristine, empty lake lapping at the shores with meager energy, as water levels have all but vanquished movement. With the change in tides come a change in winds, for loggers will soon be for a tale of time.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.  May your mountains rise into and above the clouds." - Edward Abbey

A decided calm on many levels with sound and movements noticeably absent.  Beauty in all aspects if you stop to look around.  No hustle or bustle this fine Monday morning as a new week begins with clear skies and tepid temps.  Winds remain still and energy tranquil as NW windswell and aging S swell fuel the stoke.  More than enough for hopeful groms and gremmies alike and tides remain up and ample throughout the entire day.

CHANNEL: Full tide rides enjoyed by a party of 1 which may exponentially grow in the coming hours.  Dimpled surfaces washed with morning light and rights or lefts for longish boards to maneuver upon.  Size nearly un-quantifiable but lingering somewhere between the kneecap yet below the waist and of fleeting duration.

PATCH: Forging ahead though depleted of full resources with the S swell remainders.  Knee-cappers for hand-slappers and beauty on the water unmatched anywhere.  Always a logger's delight and devoid of crowds as a bonus feature.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The voice of the sea speaks to the soul." - Kate Chopin

Savory morning as skies start clear and blue and full of sunshine.  Temps now up to 65F and a calm ambience prevails.  Van camper jamboree with all manner of dripping wetsuit and sliding sleds on makeshift moorings and a scent of bacon in the air.  A minor uptick in the NW windswell as the S fades but holds some numbers to study.  Morning and evening high tides allow for the most possibilities though the lows are more than adequate over the next few days.

CHANNEL: Marching orders for this locale with a steady stream heading to and fro.  A touch more windswell has opened up doors that seemed to be closing last night.  Now options ranging from the Groin bar, through the Channel, across to Seadrift and beyond as sliders are up and riding less than celebrated conditions.  Dropping tide may shape up the rough edges slightly with the best description being pieces and parts.  Explore the region as some areas may be more suitable than others and offer varying qualities in your experience.

PATCH: Overlooked and slightly underwhelmed with the S swell dwindling down.  Perfect for the surfer looking for peace and solitude that likely wont last long.  Tides never too low or high this day and if consistent knee high surf is to your liking than your day is complete.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results.  Simple." - Willie Nelson

Transition, flow and routine with morning full tide sliders and surfbort riders up to crack it before light penetrates.  Overcast and grey though winds have calmed and do remain slack.  Temp gracing us at 55F and sun will show but the when is always the question. Predominantly energized by NW windswell as the S angle shifts and abates slightly.  Dropping tides don't leave much time though the comeback has each day brought a new bounty.  PRD club meeting in full swing.  Follow the SaltyDog - he always knows the way.

CHANNEL: A coarse surface but not painful to view as wind not the culprit just the outgoing tide.  Taking most but not all of the evening joy and leaving remainders for the early scavenger to feast upon.  Make like the seagull savoring his morning crab breakfast and find the positive in your current situation.  Periodic pulses penetrate the early hours and seem content to focus on the inner Groin sandbar.  Lefts without much luster or linger may go thigh high in their reach and require a longboard for best access.

PATCH: What does remain of the current S swell still has enough enthusiasm to divide the crowd.  The main stage right not coming early or often but after a suitable waiting period while a long sound check takes place.  A progressive left off in the more northern reaches has even less size and subsequently less people.  Either would be good for you.  Pool or pond.  Anything would be good.  Bring a log, make it a big one.

Daily Surf Report - 7/14/2017

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Without knowledge action is useless and knowledge without action is futile." - Abu Bakr

S winds like a wet slap in the face as gray is again the color of the morning.  Temps of 54F and predictions of sun are more than likely a sure bet with our clearing pattern a lunch time occurrence.  A slackening of the winds has been both real and imagined and evening sessions have been Be Here Now.  For the moment we are left to ponder the current state of affairs and find the lesser of two evils.  A rugged NW windswell still has the capacity to captivate and the steeper S swell keeps on keeping on.  Not tattered but textured and SuperChargers DB and Mary are already on it!

CHANNEL: Bottoming out and ready to revive on the incoming tide throughout the remainder of the day.  Crumbling sections of the left with sandbar dis-connections the factor.  Still ripe for rejuvenation upon less wind and more water - both of which are scheduled for later in the day.  Still fragments to fondle and less frenetic without the crowds.  Surfable in many aspects but clean is not a descriptive word being utilized today.  Size now a measured thigh to waist high.  More to come in the waning hours of the day.

PATCH: Rolling Thunder as the S swell continues on and putting in a full work week.  Steep but steady and pulsing forth despite the less than ideal weather.  Now rocks are your obstacle to avoid.  Later kelp heads seek to grab and trip.  Find a line and hold it.  Prepare for whatever comes your way and watch that first step - it can be a doozy.  Waist high rollers are the norm.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"'I'm bored' is a useless thing to say. You live in a great, big, vast world that you've seen none percent of." - Louis C.K.

Once more we awaken to find ourselves in a world of our own. Not a hole in the sky nor a contour of the coastal line, instead we find ourselves coated in a thin layer of dew, drinking our tea, and staying bundled. As promised, sun to come - how early or late is up to her, and unknown to us all. Rugged surfaces predicted to increase - hooting and hollering for the standout summers here. As costumed for our preceding days, the NW windswell stays and throws us a wink, while the steep S swelters in for a combo some are disappointed with, and others appreciate for what is. And this is the secret: love her on these days as much as the sunny-skies, and head-high surf. There is beauty in each aspect, but it is up to you to find the joy.

CHANNEL: Still dropping, forces are there but the numbers are fleeing, and for now we are losing the battle. Find it and it will roll you sweetly to shore in about 3-seconds. Forge a peace, take care of her, and she shall take care of us. Patience - trust takes time, and she will uphold her end...will you?

PATCH: What seems to have a chaotic frequency holds a poetic rhythm if you know how to read it. Rollers here, better later as influx transitions to positive. Heavy, perturbed movements cause flailing from those unsteady on their toes. Not clean, but rather groovy. Get in a vibe and hold fast.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We are literally floating on a tiny planet in space...why are we surrounded by hatred and misery? Why can't everyone just calm down, and lay on some grass. The sun is a giant burning orb - why does money exist?" - Amy Pond

Leave the sunny temps and take a drive into the mist - you'll see it on the horizon before you enter. With patches catching your eye, there is a promise of a breakthrough but for now security is tight and forces are holding strong. Fear not, however, for energies are high and the parking lot is already full. Consistent NW windswell does a jiggle and a waltz while a lofty S swell dabbles in the disco. We are happy here for we aren't talking pea soup, nor is it chunky chili but rather, we look onto a surface of minestrone soup and pray that the chunk becomes diluted. Surf now and again later, but bite the carrot for a sun to emerge when the sun rises in the southern hemisphere.

CHANNEL:  A perfect kiddy wave to provide those with fear of an ocean with a sufficient amount of short-lasting joy. Holding promise, but after 18-years-of-age it's pay to play and this ride will need some more volume.

PATCH: There are rollers, and a boatload of stoked people. No one is leaving but more are coming as tides transition. Prepare with a log and take it all the way back to shore. Sets are steady, rollers are of a dirty-clean variation, and there's enough for everyone.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special." - Stephen Hawking

Raw and rogue, we are reminded today that Northern CA summers are unlike anything else. Moody, and prone to change, the weather predictions always seem to fail us so early in the days - inland is far from coastal expectations. Steady air movements rekindle a love affair with a classic NW windswell and a paling, sharp S swell to tell us that there have been worse and much, much better. Remember to bring your sunscreen and snow-jackets, your swimsuits and beanies, going from down low and caked-in to mid-highs and sunny skies, be sure to taste everything before you decide what you like.

CHANNEL:  Reminder: one needs a sufficient amount of water in order for your board to float. Depleted and lacking sufficient funds, wait for the next paycheck before spending.

PATCH: Paddle out and wait among the sitting birds. Coming briefly, only to go away once more. Out again, and always a longboard. Catch a morning snack or wait for more traffic underneath the surface - energy is key, for the displacement of water never occurs but it is nevertheless, lacking umph.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Speak when you are angry- and you will make the best speech you will ever regret." - Laurence J. Peter

Cold and bold, the day unfolds. The air is moist and the wind is blowing. A heavy fog lingers and takes away our morning delight of summer sunlight. Time for tea and a biscuit to keep yourself warm, unless you're here of course, then you might as well get in and get colder. A negative tide building positive attitudes as it rises up to our expectations. Stick around and be on the watch- things may get better.

CHANNEL:  Paddle here, slither there for a chance to go left. Learn backside or remain goofy- either will assist in today's activities. Knee to thigh high little pitchers going 3/4 speed this side of the groin pole.

PATCH: Not as much as yesterday but all things are possible. Dodge and dip around the rock if you choose, but not the place of choice this morning. Keep an eye out as the tide rises and creates potential for all seeking.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"A kind heart is a fountain of gladness, making everything in its vicinity freshen into smiles." - Washington Irving

54F and misty while we gaze upon the sea and try to focus on the future.  Full moon brightness apparent and taking the sun's morning place in the lineup.  Early indicators show promise upon the lower tide as it starts to push back and fill.  Anytime after 10am has sufficient water levels and while the swell data is not off the charts it is registering.  Primary blends of NW windswell and a long period S have hopes running high and a germinating buzz.

CHANNEL:  Settled sandbars ready and in place though not formulated to work on negative tides.  As the water fills back in during the remainder of the day one can clearly see both the potential and the problems.  Congested junctions will be the norm with only daylight hours bringing adequate agua.  Across the pond at Seadrift faring marginally better due to deeper contours.  All points will eventually stir from slumber but not rumble and now we are content with thigh high shallow spinners.

PATCH: Finally a sighting of S energy though low tide forces regional aspects well out the back - naturally.  Morning exposures of stone and sand are guides as to where not to be.  Voyage out past the split rock where more depth can be found and employ your log to its fullest extent.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant." - Robert Louis Stevenson

The early aesthetic of the overall surroundings seeks to detract one from the beach platitudes as the early lows leave you nowhere to go.  Deep early tide swings are now reviving and flushing back to fill the gaps throughout the remainder of the day.  With mainly NW windswell as our key wave proponent much focus will be Channel directed.  A slight steep S may produce some background noise and will be fodder for loggers.  Full moon rising tonight and all creatures of the dark will roam wild and free.

CHANNEL:  Less water and more sand leaves a wide open field for dog runners and beach walkers.  Those not seeking stoke or slides will have their way in the early hours.  As the tide fills in the extra push fortifies the NW windswell and will allow for waves in the upper knee and bridging one's thigh in height.  Not packing power but determined to break and the sandbars are ready for all comers.  Now it remains the domain of the dawn crackers MMA smackers who go without hesitation and remain an inspiration to all.

PATCH: Why haven't you called me?
Did you forget me?
I need to know
When are you intending
To break the silence
And let me know?

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"It is easy to sit up and take notice.  What is difficult is getting up and taking action." - Honore de Balzac

Superlative morning if you like cool temps, clearing rosy-tinted skies, no wind, no sounds, triple 7s on the calendar and free couches.  Early activity is of the avian nature with Pelican Pete and a pack of his winged friends partaking in breakfast and lunch.  Let this not deter as nature in action is a beautiful thing and the anchovies run wild and free - for now.  Dog walkers and surf seekers are unhurried in their approach as the morning low tide does not give a full picture.  Groomed sands await while the surf slumbers.  An eager NW windswell values higher water levels during the later hours and the essence of a SW swell is neither seen nor felt.

CHANNEL: A small but inspiring left is all that one lays eyes upon.  A premonition of things to come or the only game in town?  You decide then act quick as it already feels crowded with birds of a different feather.

PATCH: Sunken tide blues with associated exposed rock and lacking swell dynamic has the Patch sedated and not slated for activity until much later.  A low tide hike typically reveals ocean treasures and as the hours pass the opportunity to engage may approach.

Take a drive down memory lane, past the gray, green, and blue lagoon, through the trees, and into sweet, sweet Bo. Here ye shall find tranquility. Coated in a blanket of fog, blessed with a glossy texture, today is a day to remind you what it feels like to feel peacefulness. Silent, the undulating movements of the ocean, and the cry of the birds are all that penetrate our ears. Even those whom walk towards the water do so in a calm way. Sun and mid-temps tango with small NW windswell and young SSW swell. Do not come to find rip-and-roar, but rather to find soul-and-bliss.

CHANNEL: Flocks of birds lay in wait - something is stirring underneath. On the surface, the mouth is where one finds consistency in small measurements - the paddle-boarders owning here. Where there is classic breaks, it still exists but patience is known to be key.

PATCH: Flat as a blueberry pancake - a bit less tasty, but a whole lot prettier. Enough energy to create a white-cap here, and something there but not nearly enough to stir the pot and create some grub to fulfill. Wait for thicker stew.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"When you realize how perfect everything is, you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky" - Guatama Buddha

Words of a fogged-in coast leave many stuck inland, lethargic after a day celebrating a birthplace for so many. Bo is left with couches, strange stragglers, and minimal people. Glossy with a matte finish, it won't stay for long. High-to-low temps, sunny-to-cloudy skies, rollers coming through in brilliant formation. Lucky to be alive and well, there still is time but do not meander. Some are out, others are entering, more already are full. No better way than this way.

CHANNEL: Rolling through, clean, and pristine. Pumping up, smooth, and Bo-high. Catch the ones others seem to be missing, they'll take you places you've always wanted to go, and you won't even have to fight for it.

PATCH: Solo journey here, leaving a one man attempt to snack on the nibbles that exist. Short in length and amplitude, small on the pickings. Patience and ye shall have an appetizer.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"To make us love our country, our country ought to be lovely." - Edmund Burke

Happy Independence day to all, and thank you to those who have served this country, for today we celebrate and remember. Another thick layer of fog and mist overwhelm the town. No sunshine here, but that hasn't stopped anyone from coming out. Parking is currently a disaster so please, stop trying. Bolinas roads are CLOSED today until 5pm. As for the surf, too bad you didn't get here sooner.

CHANNEL: Raging lefts reflect the excitement of the holiday. Waist high possibilities storm the mind and stoke the brain. Say please, thank you, and excuse me as you race down the line and pass many others wishing for the same. Tide is on the rise and close to it's peak, so if you are reading this, it's probably a little too late.

PATCH: Some wonder and few find what the Patch has to offer. Very little is seen and is no comparison to what is happening a short paddle away. Knee high if you're lucky.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer." -William S. Burroughs

Thick mist wets our windshields and coats keep us warm as the sun does not. Cold and damp is the morning but is already full of warm welcomes and smiles. The streets are packed yet the water is not. Crystal clarity is clear as is the destination. Slip and slide into glory and keep your pride away. Smile and wave, for your neighbors will do the same.

CHANNEL: We hear through the grapevine that conditions are dwindling but our eyes and hearts see plenty to work with. Thigh high for now, but not for long. The rising tide will soon provide little propulsion.

PATCH: No current action here, too much water and too little swell. Although the morning is not what we hoped for, there are many hours in the day.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We all have ability.  The difference is how we use it." - Stevie Wonder

Density lacking clarity as fog descends and lingers.  Tinged with S winds and chilled temps keeping most early risers snuggled deep.  The normal weekend cacophony is eerily hushed.  Those transporting warming beverages to the water's edge seem to come away disappointed in the vision.  With only NW windswell to contend with the textured bump and lump have limited appeal and is not enticing to everyone.

CHANNEL: High tide yielding a few rides with near shore wind providing most of the propulsion.  Estimated swell projections falling short of company goals has eager activists scrambling for alternate solutions.  All problems are solvable and this one is hardly insurmountable as well.

PATCH: S swell shifting steeper and easing back on the lackluster energy provided.  More than enough water to keep things copacetic but angles and intensity not on par with past performances.  The day holds many hours and changes may yet be in the offering.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal." - Albert Camus

Half over or only half begun?  Explore your perspective on the calendar as we head into July and hope to wring all positive possibilities out of the next 6 months.  Anticipated swell bump not as advertised and relatively thin though not anorexic.  Clear skies coastally with just a light ESE wind to push the clouds up, up and away.  Full sun already making a grand entrance as the holiday festivities start early and end late.  Figure out where you fit in then sit back and enjoy the show.

CHANNEL: Early morning waters appropriately portioned and invigorated NW windswell a bit cleaner though acting passive.  Bump and rollers in the early light have loggers up and finding footing with travels both left and right.  Heady and steady with nearly waist high apparitions at some regularity.  Dropping tide not too low and should allow for options and opportunity throughout the day.

PATCH: I believe I spy with my one little eye and knee high slice of watery heaven.  Neither here nor there or anywhere particular but a whitewater trail to follow then forget.  A re-imagined S swell has less on tap but is still coming to visit and needs a couch to crash on.
