Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Don't spend your precious time asking "Why isn't the world a better place?" It will only be time wasted.  The question to ask is "How can I make it better?"  To that there is an answer." - Leo Buscaglia

Gray blanketed sky with a thick misty haze and wet streets from overnight raindrops are the welcoming committee for the short work week.  A cool 54 outside temp as croaking frogs answer calling chirping birds.  With the smell of sweet, clean and crisp air our morning routine begins.  Making our way through daily obligations not forgetting to stop and smell the salty sea along the way.

CHANNEL:  The overnight rain has had little effect on the NW swell.  With high tide coming in, the approach to the Channel takes patience to reach and well worth the effort.  Chest to waist size on the sets with multiple peaks to choose from.  A variety of boards out in the water scoring rides all the way to shore.  Water temp is 55 and with thick gray mist in the air, it feels like surfing in smoke on the water.  As the tide recedes mid-day, peaks and valleys may steepen.

PATCH:  Confusion and churn are the words of the day as it seems the swell has lost the directions to the Patch.  High tide waves crashing up the green wall makes for an exciting viewing party.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hurly burly holiday culmination.  Significantly sized NW swell develops and invades.  Ocean activity drawing a crowd of all comers to try their luck and test their skills.  Naturally clearing skies gently illuminated in the East and a temp of 52F to take the edge off.  Winds remain slack and tide just now filled to the brim.  Battle tested boards of all shapes and sizes being offloaded and waxed with reckless abandon.  *The measured approach always seems to work best even when frothing to charge.

CHANNEL:  Overloaded with tide, swell and population on this fine day of hope.  Inside ample dumpers seem most suited to those wishing to be whomped and punished.  Outside Channel bar is primed and poised but a bit overwhelmed handling all the duties.  Reaching maximum entropy with less clean corners than hoped for and chunks to the chest.  Outgoing flow may bring a tidier outlook and likely more sliders as well.

PATCH:  Random dispersion of breakers attracting all manner of humanity.  A bit ragged on the higher tide but keeping hard edges at bay.  Swell filtering in and over with more water and the distribution is at least spatially consistent with Winter action.  Find a few and love your fellow surfer.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Every moment is a new beginning." - Elie Wiesel

Crisp off-shores ruffling tarps and tapestries. The determined and dedicated allegiance finds no fault and forges forward.  Skies of clarity and temp of 56F lend promise to the day.  Still plenty of WNW swell seeking optimal purchase along our coastal enclave.  High tide shifts the focus feature and the drain is significant and brisk.  Expect windows of shape shifting and improvement if you in the right space and time.

CHANNEL:  Pushed outward and over towards deeper waters and the Seadrift community.  Curved collections of water lurch and lean right with E winds helping faces and holding heady.  Constricted zone of opportunity with sandbars on the thinner side.  Look for cleaner options during the initial tide drop and find yours before it disappears completely.

PATCH:  A persistent collection of loggers attending services in the Patch.  Tough winds pushing most too deep and off the boiling point of action.  Again, mostly focused inside and requiring a bit more attention to detail.  Heavy boards with chop cutting components will fare best attempting to drop in.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Keep your face always towards the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you." - Walt Whitman

The crow calls early and all must heed.  WNW swell remains and holds steady.  Full sunshine, 50F and light NE winds complete the atmospheric picture.  High tide just past peak with beach accessible in all directions.  Outgoing tide will reshape then rip then drain over the course of time.  Where and when you choose to drop in will always have reverberations felt across the sea.

CHANNEL:  Brimming with options and drawing a vibrant crowd.  Deep Channel bar heading right towards Seadrift sends the most positive pulses and deals the longest rides.  Scattered bars along the range show some promise under the more water conditions.  Waist high breakers are sought and fought over.  A bit laden with tide that now has turned.  Ready to clean and shape but ultimately deplete as well.  Get it early if you can.

PATCH:  Mild movements and concentrated closer to shore than typical.  Racy right-handers with a little morning funk implied.  Short slides under sunny skies and plenty of water to explore the spectrum.  Mind the rocks while they begin to expose as the day unwinds.  Quick exits may be in order on the inside race track.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Chance favors the prepared mind." - Louis Pasteur

Full house fantasies as new WNW swell enlarges and winds find eastern footing.  Fairly widespread morning fog and temp of 45F.  Both starting to change with clearing and sun salutations.  Plenty of power generation is probable with tidal swings playing a large factor in wave character and form.  Step lightly into the breech as Mother Ocean suffers no fools.

CHANNEL:  Hefty heavings through the mist elicit interest and opportunity for those willing to venture forth.  A bit wobbled with high tides so choosing wisely has benefits.  The Groin bar is in hibernation so all activity is centrally focused in the Channel proper.  Split peak options are available though one way shows more promise than the other.

PATCH:  Shifty shore-pound for the Whomp Whomp crew.  Proner's Delight with high tide keeping rough edges fully flushed.  Punch through to open space and find rights reveal themselves in the clearing mist.  Not an optimally suited swell angle for this time of year but we will take it and run with smiles today.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"A person often meets their destiny on the road they took to avoid it." - Jean de La Fontaine

Still a bit raw and temperamental in the wake of passing storms.  Soggy, foggy and damp but in the process of drying up.  Winds have ceased and an elixir of calm seems to be settling in.  Temp 50F and starting atmosphere is overcast.  Plenty of NW swell in the moment and on the way.  Morning high tide not overwhelming and while the water has a chocolatey tinge it also shows promise of storm borne breakers to slide.

CHANNEL:  Cleared boat ramp detritus has access free and open.  Main Channel bar feeling the vibes and offering rights of a realistic realm with the capacity to transport and transmit.  Size is a function of varying angles but will reasonably approach waist or bigger.  High morning tide has it softened and suited for longboards.  Outgoing current may well improve shape and form.

PATCH:  With enough W in the swell and a higher tide in play, the momentum can breach the reef and enter partially.  Churned rights with a brownish hue instigate a migration of loggers hoping to ride the crazy train.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Before anything else, preparation is the key to success." - Alexander Graham Bell

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.  Mini waterfalls carrying debris down slick streets creating a natural obstacle course.  A balmy 55 with blustery winds blowing rain horizontally.  Use care and caution when traveling from point A to point B.

CHANNEL:  Tree branches and dirt camouflaging the boat ramp with water running down both sides.  The WNW swell in the channel has turned into a whirlpool on spin cycle.  Too much motion in the ocean making conditions less than safe and not ideal.  No surf to be had today my friends.

PATCH:  Topsy turvy tree debris making bird bobbing difficult.  Crystal alignments in position for cleansing and recharging with positivity in hopes of wave riding tomorrow.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Live as if you were to die tomorrow.  Learn as if you were to live forever." - Mahatma Gandhi

Thick, dark and gray clouds pouring rain on to slippery streets this Monday morning.  This week we welcome new routines and some old familiar patterns.  Wearing waterproof clothing, armed with umbrellas deciding which road to travel.  Drive safe and always remember, ten and two.

CHANNEL:  WNW swell has faded along with the sun today.  Mumbled and jumbled storm surf across the channel and Sea Drift side.  Soupy white water wave movements with little energy.  Water is rushing down the boat ramp making the approach to the beach unstable.  Use caution.  No one out, not even the seals or birds.

PATCH:  Today is a great day to relive Oprah's acceptance speech while taking down remaining holiday decorations.  Pour an extra hot cup of tea, stay in your pajamas and be cozy; baby it's stormy outside.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Go the extra mile, it's never crowded." - Unknown

Birds of a feather singing morning tunes welcoming the rising mellow yellow sun.  Thin clouds overhead and a cool 45 air with a light breeze is the building foundation for this day of rest.  Early risers taking advantage of open parking in anticipation of finding the perfect wave. The first step is always the hardest and once set in motion, those who make the effort won't be disappointed.

CHANNEL:  Decreasing WNW swell mixed with low tide creating waves in the form of knee high range.  Glassy and small peeling rides can be found for those who are looking.  As the tide shifts with more water this afternoon, conditions should improve.  Grab a log, grab a friend and Dilly Dilly!

PATCH:  Sloths are so lazy they spend all day in bed, except when it's offshore and the swell's overhead.  It's hard to go when conditions are right, so the Unicorn surfs on the right into the night.  His colorful quad sails through the air, the Racoon grabs his rail for extra flair.  Flamingos are graceful, leggy and lithe, perfect for pulling a quick cheater five.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Waking up to who you are requires letting go of who you imagine yourself to be." - Alan Watts

Morning moon as a provider of good vibes and clear skies tinted orange.  Chilled out to 45F but drying out with steamy streets.  Easing swell of a mid period interval and zero winds have it smoothed out and slicked back.  Studious crews survey and judge as keen eyes will spot the elusive ledges of integrity.  Tides leveling out and swings becoming more manageable.  If unsure, let the crystals be your guide.

CHANNEL:  Low tide resolved and now filling in the cracks.  Enough water and NW swell to propel surfcraft towards shore in a zig zag fashion.  Subdued sandbars generally trampled down by time leave options lacking but not nil.  Find some depth for discovery and do not be deterred.

PATCH:  Operational with caveats.  NW swell surges over the reef and S swell is too juvenile to crack the code.  Well outside peaks temp, tease then terminate.  Inside traders may well reap the short term profitability results.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The best things in life aren't things." - Mike Ness

Misty rain serving more as a dampening agent and gopher burrow deterrent.  Light SE winds, as expected and a temp of 56F.  Wave Wranglers in attendance searching for storm surge apparitions as swells grows in size.  Tides not prohibitive during the lighted hours of the day.  More slop and jumble than cohesive breakers but spread far and wide for those looking to take a ride.

CHANNEL:  Final Winter break days coming to an end and being celebrated early with a full flock of fearless sliders.  Hit and miss rumblings with little organization efforts observed.  N swell reinforced but besieged by sea winds and flattened sandbars.  Some frothed findings to get the big board moving in various directions but hardly an epic day.

PATCH:  S windswell borne breakers have optimistic candidates suited and seeking.  Ocean in perpetual motion though again not in any coordinated fashion.  Those determined to ride may well find a corner worth exploration.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"What we know is a drop, what we don't know is an ocean." - Isaac Newton

Overnight shake and quake now settled.  A partition of light rain to keep the mood mellow.  Light NE winds have it warmed to a welcoming 55F.  Sea storms bring new swell with a unsorted energy.  Tides still swinging wide and for the fences but with a measure of normalcy creeping in.  Willing participants already flooding the down ramp.

CHANNEL:  Early agitation as a function of newly minted storm landings.  Tide pushing up adding more water to an already chaotic mix.  Sandbars still not aligned or fully organized with perforations throughout the region.  Hit and miss options for a quick sloppy drop and slide.  On a positive note the water isn't all that cold.

PATCH:  Binary offerings from both swell and wind are haphazard yet happening.  Hopeful early risers seeking to beat the highest tide find solace in the fact that the ocean is not flat and the world is indeed round.

"Your own acts tell the world who you are and what kind of society you think it should be." - Ai Weiwei

Melancholy gray skies rolling out the red carpet for today's rising sun.  Brisk wind kisses goose bump skin over cups of coffee.  An uncertain quiet across town as we brace for the storm which will grace our presence tomorrow.  Align crystals outside in anticipation for tomorrow's cleansing by Mother Nature.  With a New Years recharge, keeping fingers crossed for surf to return home.

CHANNEL:  Mixed and jumbled pre-storm action in the Channel proper.  Confused with high tide coming in and wind blowing out, the waves can't decide to go forward or back to sea.  Less confusion on the Sea Drift side with semi-jumbled rights in the shin zone.

Initiate Resolutions!  Day 1 rings in cool but clear as sun breaks through early and temps hit 44F.  First day Full Moon allows the crystal cleansing / charging ritual to be consummated and truly get the year started on a positive note.   Spectacular weather to start 2018.  Faded swell remainders for risen revelers have most yearning for more though dealing with less.  Tides crest at great altitudes before a full depletion to negative lows.  Nature attempts to confound all while surrounding with beauty.  Today is the first day of the rest of your year so it is important to set the bar high.

CHANNEL:  What exists is balanced and parallel and elegant to view from above and afar.  All swells in retrograde with reinforcements on call for a later date.  Water depth on the rise though not helping the search for slides.  All is not a lost cause though creativity is required if wave riding is on your To Do list this day.

PATCH:  Drenched with tide.  Ablaze with sunshine.  Considerate with coverage.  Lacking much sway or fluctuation.  Partially open to playful opportunities.  Subceeding expectations.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"And at the end of the day, your feet should be dirty, your hair messy and your eyes sparkling." - Shanti

Muted cold gray and zigzag pinks stretching out from underneath the blanket cloud.  A cool 45 is the building foundation for this last day of the year.  Walking with intent toward the waters edge, looking forward to a cold briny bath to wash away past resolutions.  Seeking solitude and comfort that some things never change and not all patterns should be broken.  So here's to good friends, tonight is kinda special!

CHANNEL:  Three words:  Too. Much. Water.  Leftover W/WNW swell lingering with little push against high tide.  Conditions should improve as the tide shifts to out going.  Too swampy to tell for now and no beach insight.  Use your time wisely, dust off those New Year's Eve light up glasses and practice tonight's toast in celebration for ringing in the new year.

PATCH:  I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray.  But when I woke up this mornin', could've sworn it was judgement day.  The sky was purple, there were people running everywhere.  Tryin' to run from destruction, you know I don't even care.  Say, say two thousand zero zero party over, oops out of time.  So tonight I'm gonna party like it's nineteen ninety-nine!

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"This is a brief life, but in its brevity it offers us some splendid moments, some meaningful adventures." - Rudyard Kipling

Early fox calls get the creatures stirring with humans heading to the water's edge.  Cleared skies again materialize and transfix with colors only seen in nature.  Temp cool at 40F but NE winds will provide a measure of warmth later in the day.  Like a newly distributed puzzle, all the pieces are present just not properly placed yet.  Swells linger and languish while certain tides confound.  Those that seek usually find.

CHANNEL:  More water coming to lend a helping hand.  Incoming tide push fuels the Mali-Bo estates as a worthy option.  Plenty of opportunity to exercise the paddling muscles in pursuit of micro peaks.  Stay low low like the gopher to eeek out an existence.  Slink along like the ferret and acquire new perspectives from the lower angles.

PATCH:  Boat races out and back may best be attended to today.  Non varying surface layers show little willingness to change temperament and remain in Time Out.  Those with a strong tenacity for solitude will be duly rewarded and if waves arrive be the first in the know.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The greatest risk is not taking one." - Chinese fortune cookie

Transcendent sunrise with many up on the wall early to witness.  Breathtaking beauty surrounds and light E winds push the temps to 48F.  Peaked tide and waning swell the only negative on this graceful morning as we near the end of a tumultuous year.  Too full and flushed to allow for memorable breakers to rise but with the tide on the drop some options will surely materialize.  The Periodic Potential Principle persists.

CHANNEL: No frothy functions though W swell remains in suitable measures.  It's a one peak creek with the solitary sandbar buried under too much water to elicit electrifying slides.  Tide drains quickly which bodes well for opportunities.  Keep one eye open as they tend to appear and vanish in a blink.

PATCH:  A tenuous trio surveys with full fledged conjecture and optimism.   Buoys show swell. Sunlight glints and plays tricks with the mind's eye.  Wonderful waves, where you hiding at?

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught." - Winston Churchill

Tonal skies and risen tides along with incumbent swell align to form a holy trinity.  Winds remain nil and lifted fog allows sunshine to resonate and start some warming from an early low of 39F.  Pods of seekers hoping to shred are fully engaged.  Expectations are favorable unless destiny intervenes.

CHANNEL: All west in the swell combos have found future alignment and settled on the foundational Channel sandbar.  Feathery offerings lend late gifts to the holiday season of giving.  Full intensity peaking today than tapering off in time.  High tide keeping it burdened with water but already on the drop. Centralized rollers that have reached shoulder high.

PATCH:  Girl, to be with you is my favorite thing.  Yeah, uh huh, yeah.  I  can't wait till I see you again.  Yeah, yeah. Uh huh. uh huh.  I want to put on my my my my boogie shoes, just to boogie with you, yeah.  I want to do it till I cant get enough.  Yeah, yeah, uh huh.
