Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” - Dylan Thomas

To our 2 Mile Friends and Family:

Tragedy has stricken our beloved shop. On Friday night, a fire broke out in our building in full destructive fashion. It got to our boards, it got to our suits, it got to our souls and it got to just about everything else. We’re mourning the loss.

We know this is unhappy news in a very uncertain and difficult time for everyone. We’re beyond bummed that we’ve had to have our doors shut for the past months and haven’t seen many of you in far too long. Our hopes for summer have unfortunately been dashed, but our love persists. 2 Mile is dead. The ocean lives. The sun rises on another day and sets for the shop.

Luckily, no one was hurt in the flaming madness. We’re very grateful to our friends at the Bolinas Fire Department who stuck it out for the fire’s duration and did everything that they could to save life and material items. Our team is grieving the loss of summer with you all that was fated to last only four brief days.

We shall surf on, and we hope that you will as well. Though this is the end of an epic era, keep the memory of 2 Mile alive in your hearts. We will remember the stoke we made happen in our lifetime, and all of the people who have grown with us over the years. Our hearts go out to all of you and we miss you already. We hope to see you every once in a while out there in the ocean blue.

There are a lot of important things going on in the country and the world right now. Though we’re no longer a shining light in the darkness, we can’t stop hoping for a better future for surfers and land dwellers alike. There are many important places to donate your money and time right now, but if you happen to still have some petty cash after helping others in need, we do have a gofundme set up. https://www.gofundme.com/f/2mile-surf-shop-fire-relief-fund

We will survive as surfers and time marches on. We first hope that you support the great societal causes if you have the means, but think of us afterwards. We have lots of love for all and see many elbow bumps, and eventually some high fives and hugs, in our futures as we cross paths in the Pacific.

Goodbye to all,

2 Mile Surf Shop

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Dissent without action is consent.” - Henry David Thoreau

A yielding fog gives way to bright light and warm emissions which clings to seaside cliffs with vigor. Swell combos continue to reverberate even upon negative tides while the earth rotates slowly upon its axis. Already no parking on the dance floor and the day has only just begun. To reach breakers this morning one will need to paddle on a journey to the foundation’s end.

CHANNEL: Now with the tide pushing forth it brings with it fomenting fervor and a full house of participants. From dawn to dusk and possibly beyond, will bring a steady mix of the seasoned and simple as the first days of summer seem to be settling in. Mind your directional locality and remember who gets the right of way at the nexus of the universe.

PATCH: Strewn with all manner of exposed rock, bough and crag as the morning start is a slow one this day. Not bereft of takers or shakers with the furthest reaches holding the promise of slides unlimited. Those with propulsive paddles hold the early decided advantage in covering the distance required in the seek for nirvana but a cohort of vibrant loggers are not far behind. Maybe guilty feet do have rhythm?

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”A great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.” - Walter Bagehot

Yellow light, brittle with filaments and cracks overlays the landscapes and flowers floating freely upon the sea. Warmth that feels eternal returns and early temps are 64F without a kiss of wind. Phases and stages represent the new normal with familiar faces returning to the village shores. Parking is almost a forgotten dream while a new SW swell begins to show its teeth. The lineups are bulging and may well get pushed past the the level of decency.

CHANNEL: Low waters slowly return and there is a churning with sandbar shorebreak agitation. Let the volume expand and nature take its course to realize the westerly reverberations. Small pods of mild masses chase shapes that elicit undue excitement while the wise observe and plan for strategic strikes.

PATCH: Bodies, bodies everywhere and perception exceeds reality. SW swell begins to appear even upon lesser waters and the far outside district draws the denser crowds. Join the ranks and mind the flanks as you will be far from alone yet never closer to isolation.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” -Desmond Tutu

Warm thermoclines as we seek higher perches to better gain clarity on the sea and terrain below. Heavy hearts mix with copious sun as we try to make sense of the world in which we live. Early patter of un-booted feet while the filling tide covers sand and stone. Inland heat drives many to seek cooler climates and refreshing waters. Last remnants of the ballyhooed SW swell are still hanging in though wearing thin. Put a fist in the air like you just don’t care and make today memorable for any reason you can.

CHANNEL: New flurry of activity with mid-tide vectors drawing like moths to a flame. The swell numbers don’t readily compute and those with boards of less length are quickly learning. A bit of height and overall volume but all you can really hear is the silence. Conjunction Junction what’s your function?

PATCH: Paddle yachts and those who love them amass in place rather than shelter. Hefty logs and barnacles listen to the whispered tunes from sessions recently past. Seekers still finding lines if they can find the time and size has diminished to the patella region of most sliders.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye.” -Helen Keller

Mother Earth holds her breath this morning as there is not a hint of wind atop the serene ocean. Smells of summer and waves wake the seapeople up early, like children on Christmas morning. Hope is now tangible in the form of glassy bumps gently kissing the beach. Laughter echoes across the bay and is heard from the clifftops. Take advantage of smooth waters before Mother Earth breathes out. Don’t forget sunscreen.

CHANNEL: The early bird catches the worm (and there are quite a lot of worms to be had). Little black ants dot the mouth of the lagoon as they await waves full of early morning sunshine. Towards sea drift is where magic comes to life.

PATCH: A few early risers catch knee high glass bliss. Stoke warriors train their eye on the horizon, which is chalk-full of easy rollers perfectly lined up like a godsend. A hang 5, 10 or just a smooth, long ride is in their near future. Smiles all around.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Fifty percent of something is better than one hundred percent of nothing.” - Chuck Barris

A beautiful day rich with the smell of hope. Fog banks cocoon the beach and shield us from all harm. Mild weather and stillness of air; we are in wait of something. Smiles abound from those who roam the streets in the morning mist. Listen to the birds, bees, and the murmurs of the sea. Glassy waters keep afloat the expectant seapeople. Rockers and rollers giggle in the comforting arms of the ocean blue. Inhale, exhale, and keep eyes wide. Reward buzzes in the atmosphere.

CHANNEL: Groiners, lagooners, and those nearby. With patience comes stoke. A few nice forms glide through the water, carrying those persistent enough to try. Take a nap in the water and awake to see something good coming your way. Throw back the blankets of bed and crawl towards the ocean.

PATCH: SUPs are the masters of their domain. Or are they? Some lucky few that lack paddles storm ahead and assert themselves, winning a few feet of a ride. Is it worth it? Ask yourself, for only you can answer. The sea holds the key to the universe. The only way to find answers is by paddling out.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Just because something is unspoken doesn’t mean that it disappears.” - Alice Hoffman

Gloomy and moody skies with pockets of blue on the horizon, yet the wind is here to stay. Social distancing a top priority for all, while finding a balance of normalcy remains key. From atop the wall, the wind runs cold fingers through golden locks with a clean salty scent. A calming medicine only found in nature and free for the taking. The ocean remains ruffled and disturbed, for the surface is anything but calm. Taking one step at a time, remaining calm we will ride out the commotion together.

CHANNEL: Out going tide muffled and disorganized ripping out yonder through Channel proper. W swell not showing size above mid-shin and no real push forward. Just right of the pole a formation in the knee-ish zone appears before dramatically ending. Practice patience and check again as the tide turns.

PATCH: Sloppy seconds on the menu and no takers waiting in line for the ankle biting. Waiting the name of the game, we may just need to wait till tomorrow.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.” - Courtney Shields

Pockets of heavy rain in between morning showers as the sun hides behind dark gray covers. Cold to begin at 48 as we step back in time to winter. Off shore breeze creating confusion inside and out, as the ocean’s dark green surface churns on. Mini white caps play hide and seek, near and far, as the current swings sideways on the outgoing. Shelter in place and get cozy with coffee in hopes of clearing this afternoon.

CHANNEL: Questioning beginnings as the out going tide swirls left then right without shape nor form. Off shore breeze blowing off the tops of mini white caps bumping and grinding in Channel proper. Not a soul out in the rain on land nor water, as most hunker down and wait for the storm to pass.

PATCH: The yard sale is open for business with storm junk 50% off regular price. Forget the long lines at box stores, and be the first in line for the chop and slop being offered. No hoarding here.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“A wise man hears one word and understands two.” - Edgar Allan Poe

Light rain but abated winds and the stoke is not doused but merely tempered. Moistened air of 51F with chirping birds and overcast skies that seem to be lifting though not clearing to make way for any early sun. Pathological peepers scan the horizons looking for opportunity windows to open a bit wider. Bottomed out tide just getting ready for the comeback will lend water to the equation and the gentle push to tip the scales. While the world closes down, nature welcomes you with her open arms, just make sure your hands are freshly washed.

CHANNEL: An emergent right in no water bodes well for later times and tides under an obtuse sky. Surf may be present in the lesser sense of the statement, as is the crowd level. Find a silver lining - it is out there waiting.

PATCH: Unfulfilled dreams matched with unencumbered waves as the day starts slowly and rounds into shape. Lacking water but not swell. Slightly ravaged from the night’s storm but eliciting vibes and signals that it may begin to work.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” - John Wooden

Pre-storm vibes as tree tops swirl and curl in the emerging S winds. Whipped and dipped and devoid of reasonable consideration as we plan for coming rain and endure higher winds than useful. S / SW swells still active and invigorated but suffering under the gusts and morning low tide water depletion. Those making the decision to forge ahead remain positive in their outlook and may find a morsel of stoke to sustain and feed the hunger.

CHANNEL: A tide of zero. The widest expanse of wet sands. A wall of concrete and steel. Free range dogs roaming. Gulls careen upon random gusts. The seas are low and white-capped with little observable breakers to assess.

PATCH: A ringing chorus of NO will fall upon deaf ears as institutes of higher and lower learning are static indefinitely. Some regulars pause to peruse and feel the fresh air upon faces while others dump and jump to enjoy other pursuits. The farthest reaches show the signs that swell exists though not for the taking or pleasure making.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today.” - Mark Twain

Full coastal overcast and a descended fog torment the early views from perches both high and low. A mild temp of 51F and hints of NE winds which may clear and warm the atmosphere. Early bottomed tides pave the primrose path to aquatic investigations but the options are limited in the morning hours. Brimming with good intentions and new SW swell. An incoming tide will revive the seas and set stoke seekers straight as to the real deal.

CHANNEL: A fully exposed concrete wall serves as stark reminder as to what lays beneath while the steel pole sentinel surveys the emptiness that surrounds. Little is left to the imagination and even less to the eternal optimist. Spurned at dawn with PM options on the Try Wait and see list.

PATCH: Dedicated hard liners seek unconditional blessings within the surrounding mists. Primary SW offerings are the realities that can be met headlong with logging intentions. No one asks why? All just go.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Your chilly stars I can forgo, this warm kind world is all I know.” - William Johnson Cory

Invisible hot pockets hidden among the chill, as the setting worm moon and rising sun pass like ships in the night. No wind to be felt as she has moved on to other places for now. Early week slow down in full force as our village resumes the usual ebb and flow. Sand dwellers out numbered by four legged friends as ball chasing becomes priority number one. Glassy and calm the ocean moves in, creeping forward to shore.

CHANNEL: Tidal swing shifting from out to in as NW swell is calm and relaxed. Ocean’s surface reflecting the sun’s rays as hands are needed to see beyond the spotlight. Channel proper the point of reference directly center, as peelers roll in knee height to the right. One prone positioned warrior currently laying in waiting choosing the best for last.

Fading gray turning yellow, as the rising sun breaks dawn and a deep chill remains firm. Brisk to begin at 44 as trees bend and sway against the wind. Empty and silent, spaces are open for the taking. The usual two dawn patrol warriors, side chat while peeling wet neoprene off chicken bumped skin, ready to start the day. From atop the wall the wind is having her way with the oceans surface, finger painting designs on the empty canvas.

CHANNEL: In-coming currents against off shore wind creating more than ruffled textured surface without white cap hats. NW swell buoy readings on screen, though not fully materializing in reality. Knee high choppy formations just right of the pole the main point of attraction.

Early morning feeling, springing ahead as the sun rises breaking dawn an hour earlier. Muted beams of light break through cloud covering as temps hover at 44 to begin. Three packs of three suited in armor with gathered sticks for protection ready for battle as they make their way down the ramp. Ruffled and textured, the field remains open for those who are determined on International Women’s Day.

CHANNEL: A clustered grouping taking it on the head as tombstones dance high in the sky. W swell creeping in at a snails pace and looks are deceiving. Steep angled lefts just right of the pole being offered to those who know the take off. Over the falls, more often than not if you don’t touch the ears to the knees.

PATCH: A pack of three spread out hunting and pecking along the way. Small snacks subside grumbling stomachs wishing for more of a meal. Once the tables have turned, the buffet will be open.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“It is better to know some of the questions than all of the answers.” - James Thurber

Everything happens seemingly at once as rain mixes with high fog and mist clings to sodden branches. Detectable amount of precipitation though light and slight is finally falling but straight down as the winds from the S remain light and non-threatening. Damp in the air but no chill with morning temps of 53F. Swells from the SW and W show lengthy period and are battling to exhibit under rising tide conditions. Soaking souls, awash in the morning brine, have already mined the early stoke and should retire to cozy climes with hot beverages and fine literature.

CHANNEL: Dawn missions underway as the hopeful brave the elements with mixed results on land and sea. Few gain slides as they are elusive and hidden beneath feet of water only growing in depth. Incoming waters and incoming storms will determine what doorways and windows can be traveled through this day. Decide quickly and act accordingly.

PATCH: Lonely seas in full panorama as the growing tide shelters and inhibits the faint SW swell on display last night. The surface ripples and quivers but fails to routinely heave and only a random breaker is observed. We stand and gaze while hoping for hot summer days.
