Daily Surf Report - 1/28/2015

We are closed every Wednesday for the month of January but we will re-open this Thursday at 10AM

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society." - Theodore Roosevelt

A gray and heavy light parachutes it's way into town this morning, finding a humid 58 degrees with ominous gusts blowing in from the sea. These gusts find empty concrete above the boat ramp as the usual hustle and flow of the parking areas are absent currently. The recent swell from which we all benefited is no longer, leaving only an ominous silence.

CHANNEL:  Whitewater curls and shapeless forms. Absent any sliding or potential therein. With the tidal conditions, the situation does not look to improve.

PATCH:  If only I had other news to report, but it is not to be this AM, as no souls brave these waters either. Sturm and drang with extra sand is the only dish being served by the sea. Other activities might be best undertaken.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"I am not strong on perfection." - Jasper Johns

Behold a pale light and beautiful morning as we find a rising temp currently hovering around 55 degrees. The fog is fading and sliding bodies can be seen taking what is being offered today. Parking is close to full as the last of the recent swell continues to make itself known.

CHANNEL:  A combination of too little water and too much wind are cooking up a soupy mix of froth and emptiness. The gulls ride alone and we sit and wonder what tomorrow may bring.

PATCH:  Despair not my friends, as very solid and lengthy rides are being had on this side o' the ramp. Though the height is only several hands, they are holding shape and rides of multiple time zones are being observed. Access is easy and smiles are being had.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke

Glistening peaks shine with the morning sun. A beautiful start to this January morning. Not too chilly at a current temperature of 55F. A good breeze comes along with the W swell.  Shake off the night's festivities and take a cool dip in the ocean to cure your ills.

CHANNEL:  Inner channel is working good. Walls coming in seem to be mystical mile long. Lots of potential catching one of these wait-chest high rollers coming in. Looks to be not too shabby with the now incoming tide.  Keep surfing.

PATCH:  Short but fun lines occasionally passing through and water looking clean. Knee high but not looking bad. Some are dying off every once in a while so choose carefully and consult your crystal specialist for supreme accuracy.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain." - Joseph Campbell

Keeping the lows not too low and the highs not too high and on the positive tip this morning.  New W swell continues to fill in and max out today.  Clean conditions prevail and peaks are abundant.  Anything goes as all watercraft are hitting the water with reckless abandon.  High pressure and warm weather deliver offshore breezes and warm temps with full sunshine and joy.  Just passing low tide and expecting even better conditions with more water.  The lineups are full and the parking is already nil.  Sizzling elements are in place for a great beach weekend.  Expect everything a beautiful Bay Area day can deliver and MAS.

CHANNEL:  Outer Channel is chipper with consistent lefts that have shape shifting potential and are beyond belt high in size.  This wave is best suited for longboards and those that can generate paddling speed.  Inner Groin bar sliders are thigh to waist high and have more activity range as they move along the sand towards shore.   Hold your line and set your sights on the horizon as you navigate the morning congestion and try to find serenity on a wave.

PATCH:  Prismatically challenging as the sun ranges over the hills.  Glistening peaks and plenty to choose from.  Outside bomborra waves for the log jammers that have the slow cruise before dissolving.  Inside waves reform as they hit the burgeoning bottom and are racy with massive yardage potential.  New limits get set and memories are being made.  Ceilings are shattered as you reach levels above 1.  Size is the perpendicular square root of the crystal component which in layman's terms is waist to chest high.  A myriad of options to sample as the W swell direction is finding contours worth exploring.

Strewnfield by Thomas Campbell // A Life in Transition by Brian Gaberman // Returning Gold to the Sun by Charlie Callahan opens next Saturday, 1/24/2015, at the Bolinas Museum - 4pm.
There will be a ripping after party at the Community Center from 6-9pm with live music by Tommy Guerrero, The Sandy's and Fantasy Bracelet. Soup and food from chefs Charlie Hallowell + Samin Nosrat. Beer from Lagunitas. Mini Simmons surfboard raffle prize and other goods courtesy of 2 Mile Surf Shop! Should be a good time so come out if you can.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"In times of joy, all of us wished we possessed a tail we could wag." - WH Auden

New primary W swell is upon us.  Moderate height with a good long interval.  Starting to show now and will fill in and improve throughout the day and into the weekend.  We also have clear, sunny skies with a high pressure system over the region.  Unexpected colors on the horizon and a sunrise beyond words over the S hills.  Expect warm temps, offshore winds and smooth ocean conditions.  All the makings are in place for an EPIC beach weekend.

CHANNEL: Outer Channel bar swell suited for longboards and breaking both right and left in the chest high realm.   A bit on the low tide side so pick and choose those with more water rather than less.  Towards Seadrift the rights hold form as well and can be surfed with abandon as the crowd is thin.  Off the Groin bar the lefts reel and are hollow yet hold no openings for exits or expression.  Pull in and shut out the world for one second.  Low tide making waves jack and pitch but mind the bottom as it comes up quick.  Size runs waist high and better and the in-betweeners tend to hold the most shape and promise.  Incoming tide should smooth things out and level the playing field.

PATCH:  Punchy with peaks a plenty and enough water to make things interesting.  Longboard festival as there are plenty of rides being delivered and size is waist to chest outside.  Inside rights revel in the W swell and pulse along towards the sand.  Mind the rocks as they lurk and see all.  They are covered but only by a threadbare blanket.  Risk vs. Reward is to be contemplated wisely this morning.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Trust your instinct to the end, though you can render no reason." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

The scent of eucalyptus.  The tang of moisture in the air.  The cool breezes of NE winds against your cheek.  A morning temp of 49F and clearing skies to greet us.  Gearing up for warm weather and a new dose of real deal NW swell.  Both are on the agenda but likely not showing until tomorrow and into the weekend.  For now we have fading NW swell still offering up some rideable peaks just lacking in size and power.  Low tide has left us somewhat shallow but the turnaround is upon us and the incoming push may just tip the scales in your favor.  Noontime king tides are to be watched and handled with care.  Set you sights on the future and proceed forward with unyielding desire.

CHANNEL: Knee high grinders reel along the Channel and Groin sandbars.  Bottom contours are set and ready for whatever Mother Ocean delivers to our destination.  Now longboards are the call and E winds shredding the wave tops and holding up the micro faces.  Inside Mali-Bo rights are starting to work and will be worth a look as the tide continues to rise.

PATCH:  Mellowed with time and decreasing swell yet still enough water and energy to declare itself surfable.  Knee to thigh high rights permeate the region and if the slow cruise is to your liking then you will be happily rewarded.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards." - Soren Kierkegaard

An almost carbon copy of yesterday as a rolling fog disappears slowly over our piece of paradise, finding 47 degrees and mild breezes. Solid offerings on all sides of the boat ramp with moments of epic being spotted, as a baker's dozen wades in for adventure. In keeping with yesterday's circumstances, the incoming tide is already making for challenging access, with rip n' dip to follow in short order. As the waters begin to slowly recede, sliding should once again be for the taking. Make note that flood advisories are still in effect and are viable. Keep a sharp eye out and be vigilant friends.

CHANNEL: This is the place to make the most of this morning's offerings, as solid chest high and surprisingly speedy rollers are coming in solid sets. The rising tides will do no favors, so if you are not already in, another cup of coffee and a leisurely morning might be in order. This afternoon may provide better kindling for the fire.

PATCH: A more mellow ride and vibe permeates the soul patch this AM. As things are not holding shape particularly well, but slides are still being had. A waist-high right is being chatted with, and some are finding the conversation to their liking. Not to overstate, but the tide is coming and will rain on our proverbial parade, but wait a few movements of the clock and see what you will.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"No valid plans for the future can be made by those who have no capacity for living now." - Alan Watts

A dense fog is slowly burning off as morning continues to unfold. We find a pleasant 52 degrees with light breezes from the north. The gift of yesterdays' NW swell continues to give, and the water is chock full o' sliders. All parking spots are filled and various states of undress are being observed. The tide is your biggest foe today, as water is rapidly rising, and aiming for dangerous heights. Be mindful as flooding may occur on highways and byways come mid-morning.

CHANNEL: Taller and faster than the usual offerings, as the incoming waters have conditions changing almost moment-to-moment. Visible rights holding solid shapes are making for smiles and long rides and slides. The time is quickly passing though, as access is becoming challenging and the rising levels are removing reason for hope.

PATCH:  Very similar on this side as well, with a crowded line-up taking advantage. It cannot be stressed enough that the high tide is rolling in rapidly, and will make for adverse conditions. Be watchful and wait for the waters to recede, as slides should be plentiful as afternoon comes upon us.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"I hope it is true that a man can die and yet not only live in others but give them life, and not only life, but that great consciousness of life." -Jack Kerouac

New NW swell Coming through bringing  the fog with it. The air is still and calm. No winds and not too chilly at 55F. Dense high tide making rideable waves right now. Looking like a fun day in the water. Already plenty of people keeping the groin pole company- go out and join the crowd.

CHANNEL: Our W swell is making things work today with thick Waist high rollers coming through heading to Mali-Bo.  The tide shift later may have some negative effect on the surf but for now just go and don't look back.

PATCH:  Not doing great with the current swells. No visible peaks but may just be the fog's disguise. Not too smooth in the patch but when the water levels die down should be some fun.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." - Harriet Beecher Stowe

There is goodness in the air as another dose of NW swell pulses through the ocean.  Expectations run high and could be realized today. Steep and deep high tide making things soft but rideable at the moment.  Take Harriet's advice and consult your crystals for optimal water levels.  Our in-house spiritual adviser says surfing is good for the soul so locate a wave and ride upon it today.  Today the skies are clearing with sunshine and blue above.  Winds do not exist, ocean is relatively glassy and morning temp is in at 53F.  All the makings are in place for a beach day loaded with potential.

CHANNEL:  A directional shift registering on our radar shows more W in the swell direction and the ocean is producing waves going decidedly right today.  The deeper Channel bar is motivated with the incoming tide and pulsing through with waist high and better surf heading towards Mali-Bo.  Tide shift is likely to shake things up and cause chaos but for now rideable peaks even with a full tide.  Mind the tide suck as it runs out swiftly before bottoming out and will give you hollow waves to investigate or a one-way ride to Stinson.  Not too much happening along the Groin bar but that could change as the day unfolds.

PATCH:   Losing the battle with the high tide and the shifting swell.  A bit chopped up with multifaceted peaks popping.  Size runs thigh high + but the smooth glide and soft ride is not in evidence today.   Needs time for water levels to reduce but expect small waves with not much configured form.  Still something to ride and less crowded then the Channel at this time.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Exclusiveness in a garden is a mistake as great as it is in society." -Alfred Austin

Glass on the deck and fog in the air.  Coastal cloudiness, temp at 51F and wind at zero to kick start the day.  Westerly swell remains solid with consistent offerings.  Just a bit high-tidey at the moment with softening peaks but rides are available and sliding is on the menu today.  Shaping up as a fine day to tune in and let the crystals lead the way.

CHANNEL:  Channel sandbar is starting to form up and deliver lefts outside that are smooth and shapely.  Size hitting waist high + and some will make the long connection through to the Groin.  Inside sandbars still providing racy lefts at waist high or just under this morning.  Lots of water with the high tide so longboards are the best option to get waves.  Afternoon outgoing tides may cause some pitching peaks and open faces for ripping and riding.  A nice right out front for body surfing and the prone enthusiast is hollow with welcoming tubes.

PATCH:   Soft and disappearing peaks with the tide just beyond max.  Still smooth rights to rejoice upon as size remains consistent at waist high.  Mostly mid-way and the inside Snags delivering the goods this morning.  Peaks will move outside as water levels drop but for now it is all good in the hood for cruising.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Mistakes are the portals of discovery." - James Joyce

48F with the stratospheric orb burning off the morning fog.  A calm and clear day is unfolding.  A just peaked tide and solid W swell are emerging as positive signs for a day of wave sliding.  Winds are nil and a glassy ocean surface awaits those that choose entry.  The ocean awakens again and invites you to take part in her offerings today.

CHANNEL:  Smooth tidings with peaks popping both off the deeper Channel bar and also along the Groin.  All the makings for lefts to reel and run as connections are being made along the ocean floor.  Size sizzles at waist high or better outside and thigh to waist as you move inside.  Fairly high tide keeping it soft but loggable right now.  Mind the outgoing tide as it will cause wave shape to improve throughout the day.

PATCH:   Outside rights with room to roam and ride.  Lots of wall and face to cruise upon and single fin soul is in full effect.  Water levels are good and wave heights reach waist + with many participants enjoying the vibe.  Keep it real here and ride lone wolf style rather than rambling wreck.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"To know, is to know that you know nothing. That is the meaning of true knowledge." - Socrates

As morning breaks on our coastal oasis, a light fog and 43 degrees greets us. For better or worse, friends, that is all that welcomes us this morning, as no swell is present and Lake Bo-Bo beckons. There is so much beauty to behold and blessings to be accounted for, but this will be done elsewhere today.

CHANNEL:  Mid-level onshore winds are making for only minimal rollers this fine morning, as not even the most desperate of sliders are up and about. It is not always that no news is good news. As the tide makes it's way out access is not the issue, what to access becomes today's riddle.

PATCH:   A single soul attempts to bob and weave on the larger of the boards, that which is paddled, but even this hearty slider is finding little on which to feed. A very mellow right is churning, but only attaining a 12-to-14 inch height. Keep an eye on the horizon and a your vibes positive, as tomorrow is another day.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"A feeling of aversion or attachment toward something is your clue that there is work to be done." - Ram Dass

A fair 50 degrees with light breezes and clearing skies as morning takes shape in our village by the sea. Mellow vibes and minimal rides as the seas are largely the domain of the walk tall crew this AM. Rolling into a mid-morning low tide, access is prime and stretches of sand are visible.

CHANNEL:  The swell that blessed us over the weekend has moved on leaving only lipstick traces towards the groin marker this day. Glassy, with few options on the horizon. The gulls and pelicans ride alone.

PATCH:   A slight right still making a low but audible hum, as a half dozen bodies attempt to make something out of limited possibilities. Again, those with oars and paddles rule under the current conditions. Keep an eye out, however, as the tides may play to our favor as the day continues.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Set your course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship." - Omar Bradley.

Easy, breezy like a Sunday morning.  Current NW swell fades but still holds options for rides.  New Westerly swell will be arriving later today and the background S keeps most town spots popping with peaks. Overcast and moderate fog with Southern patches of sunlight breaking through.  No winds this morning and temp is 51F.  A fine day to get out and take a dip, ride a few waves, throw some shakas and find new opportunities for excitement and adventure.

CHANNEL:  Clean and classy morning with smooth lefts worth riding just outside the Groin bar and breaking through the inside.   Size is waist high and waves are holding shape and form as they roll merrily along.  Glassy and glory bound waves to be had and over a Baker's dozen riders in the water.  Tide hitting low but still plenty of water out there.  Incoming may be an extra push to set the day up for fun and frivolity.

PATCH:   Dark paddle out yields early rewards.  Crystals + Moonlight + Jah will guide and provide today.  Persistent with peaks and glideable rights that cruise along outside yet are set for speed at the inside Snags.  Size is thigh to waist high and pulses of the S can be felt every so often.  BIG boards rule the day so pull the single-fin log out and trip along.  Low tide keeps rocks covered but mind the boils and tread lightly inside.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"It's only after we've lost everything that we are free to do anything." - Tyler Durden

New NW swell holds form and remains in play today.  Size is not big but delivering more surf than we have seen in town in past weeks.  Overcast and foggy morning now giving way to areas of sun.  Gentle winds causing no harm and tide just hit low and will starting filling in.  Temp again at 50F and should be overall a mild and nice day to get outside and explore alternatives.  Parking spaces are filled up and water has lots of bobbing heads as well.  A surf day is in effect.

CHANNEL:  Smoothness and a bit more shapely today.  Size still in the waist + level with lefts off the Groin bar and inside as well.  A few more open faces to glide and turn upon and not as dumpy with a bit more water.  Plenty of surf craft in the water and waves to be shared is the norm.  Mind the foggy unknown and polar vectors as waves will appear out of the mist unannounced.  Something for everyone today and fun for the entire family.

PATCH:   Covered in fog.  Shrouded in mystery.  Whitewater signals there are waves.  Shrieks of joy or terror are emitted from the region and first-hand reports are positive.  Still has lots of peaks providing a plethora of opportunity to ride a log.  Size ranges but holds steady at waist high and the surfer migration to this spot is heavy.

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions." -  Dalai Lama

Overcast morning with hints of blue.  No wind and temp is 50F and fine.  New NW swell is filling in with long period and moderate size.  Showing in town today and making for waves the likes we haven't seen in a few weeks.   Factors are aligning for positive conditions into the weekend.  There is joy in the air and joy in the water.  Joy in our hearts and minds as well.  Let the ocean cure your ills and soothe your worries.  Find total enlightenment in all your surf sessions and today should be no exception.

CHANNEL:  Smooth surface with waves rolling in at waist high + in size.  The sandbars are not set up perfectly so sections here and there but waves to ride indeed.  Water levels are perfect as the low is mid and the high is much later in the day.  Some waves are pitting and hollow as they start to stand up in the shallows.  Pull in and look for the doggy door exit.  Expect the rinse cycle and the clamp down but don't be surprised if an opening appears.  5 in the water here receiving total consciousness.

PATCH:   Peaks a plenty has surfers spread out and about in the Patch.  Slideable / Glideable / and somewhat long-rideable with rights heading all the way to shore.  A healthy contingent of loggers are out and riding waves.   Size is a mix with best waves waist high or better and most just under.  Not as smooth surfaced as the Channel but more to choose from in general.  Don't wait / Surf NOW.
