Morning becomes electra as we stare into wild refelctions from seemingly calm waters. The mind wanders and wonders and connections are made, then almost forgotten. Paddle-tribe and moment's scribe perform collision and derision at the outset of mid-week.  Those upon the concrete barrier share opinion as if matters depend upon them, and gaze with a shared uncertainty. As time through the hour glass, so are the daze of our lives....

CHANNEL:  Paddle, paddle, paddle! Go, go go! Rinse and repeat, as one becomes aware that moments in between become days and the moments in the mild forms are legion. Bonita Applebaum, you gotta be putting me on...

A transcendent sun shines down upon largely vacant breakers as we greet yet another morn in the village. Shapes of merit and consequence roll towards the inevitable without foam nor flesh upon them. As this observation is combined with the availability of prime real estate for one's adventure mobile of choice, it begs unusual questions. Perhaps the rare day for a minimal line-up is on tap? It seems that is so, make your plan and hold your line, as others seem destined for ordinary pursuits.

CHANNEL:  Ah yes, that wonderful conundrum that the mythical sand bar so often produces; shape of size to make a slider smile, but a form that eats itself so quickly as to bury a slider in white wash, foam, and disillusion. If one were to direct a loving gaze further towards the shadow of the mystic mountain, one may observe Seadrift working in mystery. This is the way, step inside...
 

PATCH: A lone sentinel feasts on multiple sets and gains slides that require a tip of one's metaphysical cap. Yards, not feet, and zero facts. They are there for the taking and the zephyrs do no breaking at this time, but the later afternoon hours, where the lights grows dim, should contain the electric boogaloo....

The natives seem restless, as overnight rain has upset more than the apple cart of myth and proverb. A heavy dampness mixes with low clouds to make for soggy early hours. Though a determined few have made the plunge into the waters currently, the gamble is paying off mild dividends. Be aware that the zephyrs have afternoon plans and intend to make themselves known and felt throughout the heaving trees.

CHANNEL:  Second glances reveal irregular stances taking on lefts of some size. Though the forms are measured in mere seconds, a duo on foam of shorter stature are finding reason for a quiet optimism. The tide is not on your side today, however, so mind the churning and burning. 

PATCH: The word is out and the paddle tribe is in and holding court, as outside right of some size are being ridden with abandon. A solid quartet brings carbon paddles down with furious strokes, chasing down stoke, and confounding those only using wings. I said something dumb like "I'm tired of running, tired of running."....

Chill and clouds seem to be fading as the sun peeks through and shines light on this day. Happy November to all and happy daylight savings as we get an extra hour of sleep. Unusually crowded and jittery, possibly with last night's atmosphere still hanging around.

CHANNEL: Get ready to bob and weave your way through the crowd. A forest of 10+ SUPs are smeared throughout the area. 15+ also surround and try to make friends when not in the race. Knee-waist high and semi consistent. Looks fun if you like to share.

PATCH: No shortage of friends here either with nothing but logs floating in wait. Also about knee high here so about an equal chance at success.

Fillet of a fenny snake, in the cauldron boil and bake; eye of newt, and toe of frog, wool of bat, and tongue of dog, Adder’s fork, and blind-worm’s sting, lizard’s leg, and howlet’s wing, for a charm of powerful trouble, like a hell-broth boil and bubble. Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble. 

CHANNEL:  Currently a hodgepodge of mixed ingredients primarily composed of dropping tide and fading swells.  A secondary blend of flavor is in formative stages and not adding to the prevalent stew.  Lower level waves washing over composed bars but yielding only a minor reward in the early hours.  Not stopping the suited and booted crowd as they disgorge vehicular contents and begin the parade to the water's edge.  Expectations of fine Fall weather and renewing ocean energy may need to be tempered just a tad as mid-day high tides may play a role in what truly is revealed.

PATCH:  At a relative loss of SW swell initiative the Patch is relegated to second class status.  Though tide levels remain optimum and rocks stay safely tucked away the deliverance is knee knocking at best.  Quite possibly will awaken when the tides pushes forth but presumption of vast improvement may be greatly overestimated.

A palpable calm as the furious beach rush dwindles and current swells start the fading process.  Though parking remains nil and tides have hit low all is not what it seems as reality trumps perception.  Already clear skies with hues of indigo and faint streaks of sunlight breaking through.  Though 54F a slight shudder as bare skin meets morning air.  Loggers languish and thoughtfully pull on rubber accouterments.  The rubbing of wax upon fiberglass surfaces are the only sounds heard and a welcome reprieve from the recent cacophony.  

CHANNEL: Piquing interest for many though the outside peaks look UN-encumbered currently.  Lefts of a decent content and shape are revealed in the early light.  Current crew seems satisfied with the meager offerings of the inner Groin bar which provides and abides with lesser quantities.  Low tide levels still more than adequate and the incoming time is NOW.  Align your inner chakra then find your place in the lineup.  How bout a Fresca?  

PATCH: A bubbling brew of less organization than warranted.  Not quite coordinated to deliver maximum benefit though through the deck haze outside rollers seem to rear up and fold over.  Large logs headed this well will return with tales of slides both port and starboard.  Join the fray and flail away.  It is all good today.

Dawn light reveals shapes of form and function and the morning hustle begins in earnest.  New swell commences to build while others linger and last.  The siren's call has reached the farthest domains as booted feet pad towards the water's edge.  Sleds of all shape and manner are being dusted off and re-waxed in preparation for anticipated exploits.  The time is NOW as the tides swing low and give everyone a chance at a peaceful entrance and exit.  

CHANNEL: Puffing its chest out a bit as it takes a liking the the NW directional flow.  Some bars are better than others and that is true outside of the water as well.  Choose your watering hole wisely as some close early while others stay open to the wee hours.  A hefty serving of your beverage of choice is available at most points on the compass so travel wisely.  Pull up a chair and spin a yarn as the waves are free and worth the price of admission.  Don't forget to tip well and keep all your secrets to yourself.  

PATCH: Slightly cleaned up as the SW swell fades but still keeps a slight hold here.  Less mayhem and more manageable but that is before we add people to the mix.  Frenzied surfers with flaming egos and fragile fiberglass will soon descend to make quick decisions from concrete walls and blossoming boulders.  Salvation in saltwater may be found today without looking too far.

Come one, come all, as the time for rejoicing is now. Though the light remains dim, and many faces grim, a quiet tide of jubilation is rising. The sheer number of bodies moving towards the breakers or towards the shore should provide all the evidence needed. A flurry of excitement and anticipation floats up, as if mist, from damp and sandy blacktop. Parking, you ask? Maybe on the mesa, I'm sure there's a shuttle....

CHANNEL: A ever-present stream of forms descend concrete and re-bar towards active waters and promises of stoke. It's all happening at once, as even the far reaches of SeaDrift are providing shapes, slides, and rides at this hour. Mind the gap, raise a flap, and find your line, they are plentiful. Step inside, it's coming down in sheets...

PATCH: More chaos than perfection, but activity levels have those observers atop seawalls frothing at the potential. Far reaches and inside breeches are all careening towards the bitter end, with arms akimbo and feet towards the nose. There is no time but now, seekers. Let it all come down...

A haze of consequence shines down upon a a troubled paradise, as vehicles of all manner crowd roadside attractions and neoprene interactions. Parking? Not likely my friends, as the scramble is on just past dawn. Glass and foam are willing to roam and as one observes every shape, size, and color, as sliders seek satisfaction, and gaze longingly towards the horizon. The mythical "SOUTH SWELL" is still conjecture at this hour, but that stops no one. Come on in, the water's fine....

CHANNEL: A crowd gathers, perched upon personal flotation devices of all stripe. At present, shapes of merit are only strolling along the path towards the shore, and time for quiet contemplation and desperation is available in spades. When the shadow rises from the distance however, there is palpable excitement, as inside lefts raise eyebrows and expectations. All that time you thought I was sad, I was trying to remember your name...

PATCH: Though only the domain of a small collection of sliders currently, do not expect this to remain so, as word of the shapes being enjoyed will travel, and those not here already will be in transit. Outside or inside, what's your pleasure? Yards of casual stoke as one careens down the line? Or sweeping bottom turns that even the saltiest must admit are things of beauty? All of the above are available and occurring. When there's nothing left to burn....

Low visibility and a damp one can't evade as Black Metal Monday vibes fall upon the village of destiny at this early hour. Though there are promises of sun, those words may ring hollow, though one is hard-pressed to state with certainty. One can state, however, that parking is already as dense as the fog, and if your plans involve suiting and booting, you will hardly be alone. Lonely perhaps, as you will not be able to make out more than fiery shadows of your compatriots currently. Tis true that the predictions of a swell from the south ring between every slider's ears, the current NW is providing and abiding from fish to log, from grom to barnacle as morning rolls it's own way.

CHANNEL: Largely abandoned as beach access is limited at best, the ramp already shows signs of debris and debauchery, and the shadow and outline of shapes bring with them a terrible beauty and a ferocity of sound at present. Though there will be doorways of stoke through which to pass, they will require the third-eye retinal scan and just a dash of the foolhardy.

PATCH: A line-up so deceptive as this is only in memory, as nothing can be gained from shore. One should take a moment to assess one's route, as bodies and boards appear with little to no warning. Mid-torso and on the rise, tis the kind of rare morning when a short-board digs down the line and one wipes the salt and brine to make sure what one just witnessed. Inside offers shapes of quality and rides of merit, but be mindful and aware, mother ocean takes no heed for you...

A preview of S swell greets us this morning and gives us hope to get us through the day. Feeling chilly at 56F as of now and heavy case of overcast still hanging around. If today is anything like yesterday the sun will rise and we will get some heat. Fall weather with summer vibes. For now just thank Mother Earth for some fun surf.

CHANNEL: Too much water here but it isn't full yet. Swampy wash coming through the Channel and the tide is still on the rise. We hope to see better conditions here later after high tide, try wait.  Rewards will be given for the chosen few.

PATCH: Looking extra fun today so join the crowd. Bring a sled longer than your body and find some fun rides lasting longer than just a moment. Knee+ and sometimes ranging up to chest if you bend your knees a little. Fun little ramps can be found if you look hard enough.

Conservative times as NW swell eases back after an evening bump and SW swell huddles in the background.  Pushing tides has windows opening and closing at inopportune times with water levels rising and draining with reckless abandon.  Still a formidable crew attaching themselves to neoprene, planks and leg ropes in hopes of acquiring that one magic ride.  Jump on the bandwagon and celebrate the current good fortune while keeping an open eye for treasures revealed and an open mind for positive thoughts. 

CHANNEL:  Liking the swell direction but not the aquatic heights of a tidal making.  More water on the way and already on overload and swampy.  What rollers hit the bar at the precise angle of capacitance yield lurching lefts that have chest high aspirations and flowing form indeed.  A peek at Mali-Bo and the Seadrift destinations will acknowledge rights seeking bottom contours that bend and curve.  The lucky few that can align all the matrices will find waves forged from a distant station and worth an attempt, or two.  

PATCH:
Si señor, Beluga, but it is 80 dollars a portion.
Well, then I better just take two portions of that.

A huddled morning as we try to live past, present and future all in one moment of time.  With emerging hope we stand watch over what the ocean gives and the light reveals.  Larger NW swell is the dominant player today but less acknowledged contributors may play more significant roles as October meanders along.  Power arms, like power swells, always separate the men from the boys.  Incoming tide already has a frothy ramp mix primed for carnage and easy beach access is a faded memory.  Tread lightly and mind your timing as building momentum can sometimes be a hard mojo to stop. 

CHANNEL:  An integration of factors has heads on a swivel and ramp divers headed for this locale.  Chunky rollers with divergent pathways has rights appearing and lefts converging.  Directional aptitude is a must today and navigation skills may need to be enhanced.  Enough verve to have most bars breaking and worth some minor exploration.  Plenty of water and energy today to whet an appetite and possibly satiate as well.  

PATCH:  Over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house you go - will be the pathway to reach the Patch this fine Fall morning.  Bulkhead climbing and a winding beach walk will be required to gain access as water levels rise and rise.  A minor shroud of fog just starting to lift off and give sight to the eyes that need to actually see.  A weathered contingent will don neoprene and pull planks from roofs as now is the time to stroke and strike.  Like our current team of fortune - often overlooked but plucky with resolve and always rewarding.

A celebratory morning as dreams are realized, new heroes are born and Bovidae curses remain intact.  With a tempered enthusiasm we look towards the water to seek a nurturing environment.  With a subjugated mix of WNW and blossoming SW swell we are able to enhance our current cheery mood with a few slides upon the brine.  Bide your time and mind your tides as they peak and swamp multiple times today.  Time for a new team to hold supremacy.

CHANNEL:  With stern faces and considered movements one greets the day and welcomes the current congregation.  Full of water and mixed moods the outside bars are developing lefts as morning light leaks in.  A pushing tide helps the inner Mali-Bo rights regain some composure and it is only a matter of time before the beach and surf disappears under a heavy volume of aqua.  

PATCH:  Plentiful with sloshing water yet no riders have taken the plunge.  An underestimated realm waits if you just jump into the breech.  Like our current team of good fortune, what once was is now not.  What was left for dead has risen to stake claim to the throne.  Lurching rights also present at under waist high heights.

CHANNEL:  The security council meeting has gathered on time and is assessing the state of steep sandbar rights as a golden sun breaks over the ridge. Several dozen of your friends and neighbors seek solace, slides, and smiles. The only constant is change, and the stubborn desire for hoverboards.

Another dawn shrouded in dense fog has only just begun to yield as one takes stock of the menu atop walls of stone and concrete. Though far from what she is capable, the seas are worth time and a centered contemplation currently. The omnipresent zephyrs are also mysteriously absent, and may provide periods and pockets of glassy projections and perfections. Let your existence be known as you enter the fray with an expert eye and a grom's heart, and remember, you are not alone. Except you, you are totally alone.

CHANNEL:  Much more silent than in the past hours, but still reason for joy is found. A quiet trio sits astride log and egg and weaves past fishing trawlers and salty dogs. The outside of the bar is providing nourishment and metaphysical protein to seekers and geekers and looks only to benefit as tides change and people change, though some folks never do...

PATCH:  Only a half-dozen pilgrims seek the stoke in the land o' the potato this fine morn. Outside rights are being pillaged, though watch that last step, it's a doozie, as sticks and stones may break one's bones, yet so many words can, in fact, hurt you. Join in the fun and frenzy, won't you?

Heavy gloom breaks just before the waters and rays of clean light shine down upon craggy coast lines as we gaze towards the breakers. An uncommon humidity has settled in, but the zephyrs are calm as of now. Parking areas serve as dressing room, green room, and bedroom as the line-up grows with each passing moment. Be aware of your surroundings as water levels are high, and the seawall offers no quarter. It's concrete takes form and flesh as if water, and rebounds into choppy seas.

CHANNEL:  A crew approaching double-digit status is mining stoke on the far outside portion of the bar, and on occasion, striking silver, if not gold. Steep rights are throwing some into chaos, and others into rides of merit. Which do you seek? Which will you find? Who shot J.R.? Who cares?

PATCH:  A baker's dozen of logs and troggs approach both inside and outside flanks as waist-high vectors and angles make themselves known. Reason to smile, if not reason to rejoice. Tis' better to acknowledge the differences, no?

The sun shines brightly today on  our little town. Fog has burned off and blown away and the air is still and CRYSTAL clear. Lots of movement in the water, leaving people wondering what shape the day will take. Current temperature is 59F. Weather is better than yesterday and conditions may be as well. Take the opportunity to appreciate mother Earth and all she has to offer. 

CHANNEL:  A bright reflection blinds us as we try to take a peek. Waves only about knee high and not much power behind them. Wait for water to fill in as tidal swings play a vital role today.

PATCH:  Long rides are found here as we share the right of way. Waist high rollers starting from a long ways out and lasting as long as you can hold on. The fun should continue throughout the day.  Throw your hands in the air like you just don't care.

Sweet solitude with overcast skies and a marine layer on the deck.  Lack of oceanic activity not deterring the masses from full immersion as parking dwindles in the early light.  New NW swell will develop and slowly materialize in due time so for now we all Try Wait - Soon Come.  Get in if and where you fit in as season changes will start to delineate lines and form barriers to entry and exit.  Keep an even perspective even when the world tumbles down around you.  

CHANNEL:  Mainly morose as the tide bottoms out but looking at a positive future with the incoming aquatic flow.  A slight texture though not nearly a bump.  Filling in with surfers and agua as the day grows.  Beguiling in its ability to transfix and transform.  Waiting for new swell to hit and heave but early returns show minor gains by the current party in power.

Daily Surf Report - 10/16/2015

A developing morning with a buzz in the air.  Unimpaired atmosphere with pin drop solitude.  Misty and mild with temps at 59F.  A rumor of rain but not enough to dampen spirits or soils.  The swells of recent memory are just that as the visual plain resembles that which seems most familiar.  Periodic pulses have relative integrity though lack the power and persistence of days past.  There is still reason to suit up and slides will be had, though not in abundance.

CHANNEL:  A currently empty lineup with some reason for the poor attendance.  Though the deep bar is set and firm water does not flow as expected in the early dawn times.  An incoming tide will add to an already half-full volume but may give that extra push to lure the looky loo crowd in.  For now the shapes remain textured but are breaking left and lurching along.  Don't think - Just go.

PATCH:  An ambling crew headed forth to join the congregation already upon.  SW swell remains a player today and potentiality outweighs reality.  With rights to ride the barnacle crew has latched on firmly to claim what is rightly theirs.  With diminishing resolve the playing field has been cleaned up and has the smell of freshly mowed grass.  Push forward to reach the outside peaks but know the inside curls are the ones of true destiny.
