Daily Surf Report - 10/15/2015

A conjured morning develops as skies reveal their true nature and welcome the day with indigo smiles.  Puffs of clouds but no wind and a telling temp of 61F signal another round of warmth with a side helping of waves.  Dynamic in its ability to deliver, the lingering SW continues to blend with fading NW and spew forth shapes of admiration though with less magnitude than previous periods.  Slides will be had and a crackling crew has it downright occupado.  Shift change is about to occur so take your number and stand in line. 

CHANNEL:  A baker's dozen bobbing heads greet the dawn as shadows are cast in the sparkling sunrise.  Though beach access is an effort the rewards are worth the journey as the deep bar will provide answers to many of life's lingering questions.  Enough water already with more filling in.  Don't bide your time as the time is NOW.

PATCH:  A bedraggled landscape awaits but the keen eye can spot gems.  Competing swell directions give cause for careful consultation but water levels are prime if the clarity isn't.  Scattered peaks pop and froth with a patchwork of waves weaved all together.  It can be yours for a minor asking price and the knowledge gained is magnified under the current light.

Another in a seemingly endless  parade of mornings falls upon a twisted version of paradise as the chosen few stare into heaving waters. By some miracle, there still remains prime parking real estate, but that will be outlawed soon enough. The waves may not be for sale, but the beachfront views were auctioned to the highest bidder quite some time ago. Though vacant of the prime shapes of the recent 72, there is some reason to smile.You'll not be alone, or lonely, should you choose to pursue slides this fine day, so take a moment to come to terms with this very fact. Take that moment, then decide what action to take. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

CHANNEL:  A dynamic duo makes the only silhouettes visible at this early hour, as the bar provides much more than suds and conversation. Though one may need a keen eye to find slides of quality, rest assured they are available, and being enjoyed. As is always the case, space is the place, and the tides determine your slides. How many times before could you tell I didn't care?

PATCH:  Rush hour and prime drive-time has fallen upon the shoal and Patch this day, as riders, sliders, and miscreants have found themselves upon shapes of merit. Tis the outside you prefer? It will deliver the stoke you seek. Inside abandoned lefts? There for the taking. Make it yours, and make it matter. Take those quiet moments as they are offered, and ask yourself, where is that beautiful house?

Yet another morn that gives off the aroma of fall, but that hides heavy summer vectors as we stare into the village that hasn't yet figured out how to no longer exist. Neoprene is pressed over shoulders and all manner of watercraft is taken from bag and roof. There is, alarmingly, still reason to make one's way into the abyss this day, but do not expect your journey to be solitary, as issues of overcrowding have already made themselves known. Come on in, be part of the problem.

CHANNEL:  A baker's dozen is on Occupy status currently, and the shouts of protest and unrest can be heard from shore and as one approaches the encampment. Endangered sea creatures nor rent control seems to be the subject of the ire, however, merely who takes advantage of the sand bar's bounty, and in what order. It seems, in a logical world, that there are opportunities for all, but that logic is wasted. Come on in, the water's fine.

PATCH:  Commuter train doors at rush hour slowly open and the masses pour out, relived to be free of the crush. Outside rights reveal themselves to the AM shift and there is a literal scramble to be in the mix. Sets are consistent, with perfect pockets to be filled, if one's third eye guides them with a calm intent, or not. Come on in, then get on out.

A chill of consequence holds forth as new dawn fades. 53 degrees currently, with the mercury expected to rise to summer and bummer highs. Parking is rapidly disappearing like the morning fog and the line-up grows in number. Far from a standard-issue contemplative and mellow morn, shapes are inspiring awe and all sizes have made their way into the breech. Tis' reason for jubilation friends, so celebrate the day in true dedicated style, and act as invading army and conquistador of the seas, take that to which you feel entitled, even though you can not possess it...

CHANNEL:  Certainly the more inviting option at this hour, as putting one's self into the mix takes no great effort. Though not as steep as the past day's shape, slides requiring those fleet feet are the dominant paradigm as of now. 3 feet high and rising, as all manner of sleds are being employed, with varying levels of success. Won't you be my neighbor?

PATCH:  Bring you shoulders and strong hands if the plan is to subjugate the Patch on this day. Pack a lunch, you may be gone for a bit. The far reaches provide the results one seeks, and these shapes are being sampled by the multitudes even at this early hour. Be mindful as you search the treasures of the breakers, as others have also discovered the inviting shapes, and will be amongst the same as day rolls on.

Say good morning to Mother Earth and thank her for this beautiful day. The fog has cleared and the sun has risen. Clear skies for the rest of the day it looks like, with a high chance of getting real hot. Bring your sun caps and tank tops, and don't forget your favorite sled. Current temperature is 63F and growing quickly.  Swells continue to pulse and perk.  Wants to be EPIC and has a reasonable chance of achieving.

CHANNEL:  At the moment wave faces are unseen as it seems that the powerful water is curling over on itself. With a little extra paddling you can make it to where these long rides begin. Waist high and possibly growing with the incoming tide but beware of the sneaky peaks. The paddle out feels like a lifetime but it will all be worth it. 

PATCH:  Sticks and logs of every shape, color, and size roam the area all with the same goal. Knee-waist high rollers can be seen in every direction. Take the inside or mosey on over to the outside where shapes grow larger.

Arise and wish feliz cumpleanos to ripper JDog hitting the big 5 and celebrating with carves and slashes and shop employee Toby in at the little 5 and barking brilliantly.  Shrouded in mystery, darkness and fog the dawn is destroyed by beaming headlights and automotive exhaust.  Shattered serenity but also cause for celebration as new swell pulses have things firing on all cylinders.  Double stuffed and triple parked in the wee hours as all aquatic flotation devices are hitting the water today in search of the golden ticket.  Sun beginning to break its way through and temps already dank at 64F.  Expect heat, crowds and general nonsense behavior though the foreseeable future. 

CHANNEL: Set bars and SW / NW swell in for a visit has all hands on deck with the lineup teeming with tomfoolery and shortboards.  Give a wide berth to those aged wonders still ripping and show respect at all times.  A tickle of off shore breeze keeps the grooming in place and some hollowed out left pits will hold shape along the inner Groin sand.  Will soften up soon with incoming tide but swell is here to stay for a little while so get it while you can. 

PATCH: Hefty and sometimes heaving yet wonky with bumps and bobbles.  Rising tide has water teetering on the brink with outside bombs luring the majority of the fray including the haircut crew.  Marginal middles with more shape though less speed than expected.  Occasionally serving up something con sabor that you can really sink your teeth into.  All boards are working yet logs will still score best.

Bright and cheerful morning as fog dissolves and orange streaked skies welcome a day settling in to be one of upbeat proposals.  Though temps start at 55F a high pressure system is upon us and will make for relative warmth and sunshine through the weekend.  Overlapping swells of moderate depth but increasing fetch are journeying forth to bring you waves of consequence and intriguing developments.  A tingling in the core can already be felt as surfers beeline to the break of their choice and directional decisions become easy. Pursue your dreams in all their splendor today as slides can and will be had for anyone seeking pure joy.

CHANNEL: A bending band of aqua is consistently rising and articulating left for longest journeys.  A touch of texture but winds are off and bumps remain minimal in the early hours.  With rising tides the Mali-Bo bar begins to cast shadows over inside rights and delineate the clans' destination.  Likely to get swamped out by late morning pinnacle tide but the ebbs and flows will allow for dips throughout.

PATCH: Flowing brine with form and function is upon the fair Patch today.  Possibly being overlooked in the mad dash to the southern cousin but is cause for pause and carefully deliberation.  Inner range rights have volume and increasing spatial awareness as water additions are keeping it real today.

Brisk and Bo-beautiful morning as moonlight turns to clear skies.  The fiery orb makes an early appearance and all feels right in the world at this moment.  Minor swell but magnetic in its absorbance into this little hamlet. Parking beginning to dwindle and the case for carefully trepidation can be made.  Go forth with tempered resolve to reap what is currently sown.

CHANNEL: A resilient left has shown forth and revealed itself this fine morning.  Rides and slides with smooth surfaces have the masses in, up and out during the pre-dawn hours. Morning tidal push giving that little extra thrust to keep appointments at bay - for now.

Brilliant rays forge themselves over fog-laden ridge lines to make for sights worthy of moments of introspection and sun-glass reflections.Though the crowds are still small this morn, there are reasons for hope in one's heart. In comparison to days recently past, shapes reveal themselves, though patience is still a required virtue. Though miles from conditions of legend, sometimes what you've got is what you get, and for this one should be grateful.

CHANNEL: A half-dozen of the determined or deranged have made paths towards a right on the far side of nothing. A heady mixture of paddle and log, with time to kill and one eye over the hill, rides are being extracted from the blue at this time. 

PATCH:  A lone practitioner braves the isolation of the shoal as one questions the judgement to do so. Just at that moment, however, a small shape emerges from otherwise calm seas. Marginal, yet with some appeal, this brave soul's courage is rewarded with lefts worth slides, if slow and low is your tempo.

Yet another gray morn in a paradise forlorn. A stubborn dampness holds forth in the court of the crimson king. The concrete forms that hold the seas at bay are full of crab trawlers and wall crawlers staring longingly into the abyss. Current high tide vectors smash aspirations for slides and rides like speeding cars into steel guard rails. Over and out.

CHANNEL: Pelicans and gulls patrol calm waters for brunch. Even those of the paddle have abandoned all hope. Give in, but don't give up.

PATCH:  It comes apart, the way it does in bad films. Except in parts, when the moral kicks in.

A surreal mix of wisps of fog, gusts of wind, and clearly determined sun as we greet and give thanks at this early hour. The mercury will be on the rise and the tides will be in flux, as sheer volume has decimated all but the most stubborn shapes currently. A line-up both thin in number, and heavy on board size swings paddle without clear intent. There will be window that provide views of possible stoke, but they will be both fleeting and largely illusory.

CHANNEL: If the day is meant to include slides, this is where they will be found, as lower amounts of flowing blue should provide a modicum of shapes to emerge. Keep a firm grip on one's expectations, as they can slip away from you and charge head forth into uncertain waters.

PATCH:  Though a motley crew sits upon walls of concrete and stone and collectively wishes shapes upon the patch, even the heaviest of mental acumen does not make it so. A clear and present nothing is visible, and reveals little. To tell the truth, this could be the last time....So here we go, like a sales force into the night....

Steaming roads lead you here as the night's moisture begins to burn away. Bright and sunny but still not warm. 55F currently but the water temp is just about the same. Think positively, enjoy the day and always keep your crystals handy. 

CHANNEL: The outgoing tide has the Channel looking like the place to go. Yesterday's winds seem to have killed hope for some, but the remaining stay strong in their beliefs in slides and relative rides. Coming in and formidable at knee high but not lasting all that long.

PATCH:  Jump in the pond that is the Patch.

Daily Surf Report - 10/3/2015

Deepening shadows as fog lifts and lingers along the coastline this morning.  Curious foxes know the way and are willing to guide if you speak their language.  Atmosphere has a weight to it and temps refreshing at 58F.  Be on alert for strong NW winds later in the day but for now calm and collected.  A moderate swell blend brought to us from both the NW and steep S has a few blips starting to form and peaking the cadre's interest.  Plenty of water throughout the day so tides not much of a limiting factor.  Let your heart and mind provide all the impetus you need to don neoprene and slide some waves today.

CHANNEL: Darkness unwinds and reveals the new day and potential for sledding has materialized.  A few pulses from the NW have coagulated to form a left without much alacrity but conceivable for boards of length.  More than in the past 4 days which is saying a lot and also a little at the same time.  A microcosm of micro-slides may be had if your exorcise your demons and delve deeply into what matters most.

PATCH:

The day is bright and sunny but the air is all but warm. 56F today but no fog lingers. Parking is a plenty because the surf is not. SUPers are the only ones left standing. Your biggest log may not even be enough.

CHANNEL: The early morning crew looking board as they sit and watch. Imagine you threw a rock in the water and tried to ride its ripples, that is what the channel looks like. Mushy and slow white water follows desperate wakes.

Desperation with little salvation as we wade forth into a challenging October.  Beset by lack of swell from any generating sources our only morning respite is the weather - which is perfect for outdoor activities not requiring a wetsuit.  Calm, overcast and 58F is your friend today and make the most of it with a hike or bike excursion.  Tidal pushes may cause a momentary blip in oceanic activity but keep all eyes open as it will likely last only an instant in time.  

CHANNEL:  A determined paddler stands solitary watch over the Channel as 2 Utah, 2 sliders make marginal efforts to extol what minor virtues are apparent.   While lacking in many extraordinary surf aspects there is still a magnetic draw as hope is the guiding force today.  Knee high zippers have been carefully observed and thoroughly served by all those in attendance this morning. 


PATCH:  An uninterrupted plateau of desolation awaits.

A decided emptiness fills the hearts of sliders as we greet another in a seemingly endless parade of mist-covered mornings in no one's paradise. The rays of the sun may make themselves known, but shapes of consequence will likely not. If you seek an empty line-up, valet parking, and hours of hypocritical meditation, it's yours for the taking. Look towards the future, friends, as there is reason for hope just over the hillside, and tomorrow brings what should be marked improvements.

CHANNEL:  There is but a single paddle that makes the odd and occasional strike upon still waters. Even from a distance, one can sense the futility and frustration. The domain of ankle-biters and determined gulls, with only trawlers and maulers on the immediate horizon.

New dawn fades as we stare into the heart of another green world. Heavy cloud cover makes for a gray that seems concrete. Parking is ample should you be seeking a sample, though 'tis likely one finds the flavor far too bitter at this hour. The seas are the domain of the natural creatures only, as nary a suit of neoprene nor board of foam is visible.  As is the standard, activity will increase and decrease as waters ebb and flow, but temper expectations, as the hours may be better suited for planning one's own revolutions.

CHANNEL:  It's so cold, it's like the cold when you are dead, then you smiled for a second.

Visibility is low and the pace is slow as fog and log meet in an early morning chill. Though the asphalt is aflutter with various states of preparation and rumination, the seas are patrolled only by anglers as of now. As we set the controls for the heart of the sun, and gaze ruefully into the future, all visions are cloudy, as if in a sandstorm. An increase in water levels should bring some respite, but it shall be only marginal and temporary on this day.

CHANNEL:  Whitewater wise, but desired shape foolish, as multiple angles make for a soupy stew that offers no nourishment to slider's souls. The shoes of the fisherman's wife are some jive slippers.

Mystical magic fills the air, or is it just the fog? Chilly and perky out here and people coming from all over, but for what? Current temp at 56F and feeling moist as the fog has yet to burn off. Turn on your Toby tuner and find some jams while you search for parking spots. Hoping to turn into a nice day but if the winds pick up like yesterday evening we may stay chilly tonight.

CHANNEL: Tides mooshing  and mashing together. We are in the middle of an extreme tide change. The high is highhigh and the low is lowlow. Slow slow rollers have many surfers after the same wave. Lulls seem to last a lifetime so share your ride. Every wave can be a party wave.

The budding light reveals superficial details as the day begins to take form and shape.  Refined innovation will be the buzzwords for the day as easing swells and tidal swings will dictate your destinations.  Morning temps hold steady at 56F and winds are a non-issue.  Expect sunshine and beachy confabulations throughout the weekend.   A bonanza of stoke is not currently bestowed upon us but the mother lode may be just a figment of your imagination.

CHANNEL:  As the tide flexes and fluxes shall go the slide potential.  With rhythm a rolling coaster we await the fullest of moons and experience a cavalcade of highs and lows.  Do not let your emotions run wild as lunar phenomena tip the scales.  The embers of briny activity still flicker and can emit sparks to fuel your most cherished dreams.  Leave all but logs at home today if you seek to fulfill your sliding fantasies.
