Daily Surf Report - 2/12/2016

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Time and tide wait for no man." - Geoffrey Chaucer

A chill in the air as temps dip into the mid 40s and a palpable buzz is felt.  While true titans do battle to the south those in seek of challenges met and yet unconquered stream live in real time and fill parking to the tipping point.  Buoy readings demand your attention and respect as they heave hefty numbers and lofty goals upon some shores.  Much energy is among the deep though low morning tides have things broken up and erratic with most waves being un-encumbered.

CHANNEL: Salty spray as many make their way to find a wide open field filled with combers seeking solid surfaces upon which to display harmonic oscillation.  Current amplitude and phase leave most desiring more as water levels have dropped to less than optimum.  Swell vectors are in alignment for further propagation though consequence will require time to pass and tide to fill.

PATCH: Still getting a slight jolt of juice from the S swell in play yet wave boundaries are indistinct and generally mal-formed.  A rather fluid situation as glimmers of stoke cause many to stroke forth pursuing proper positioning upon uneven seas.  There are slides to be had but far from the trappings of lore or expectations based on computerized swell models.

 Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"You must trust and believe in people or life becomes impossible.- Anton Chekhov

Back in the saddle and ready to rattle as another Spring-like day unfolds.  A sunny countenance with calm atmosphere has those with fiberglass under their arms skipping down the lane towards the aquatic ending.  A pushing tide lends a hand as the great northern swells seek to gain anchor upon our shores.  Glistening mini-peaks are the name of the game  today with longboards the correct tool to tackle the job.

CHANNEL: Early morning low tide has things more chopped than chipper as the current crew waits for a smoothing of terrain.  What appears on the horizon gaining momentum quickly dissolves in the shallows after a fleeting ride of less consequence than hoped for.  More water and the passing of time is your friend today though patience waits for no one.

PATCH: A slightly enlarged S swell has outside Patch dwellers finding reason to make the journey.  While the inner regions beg a modest glance it is from the depths that grand waves are made.  A fledgling pair have found their way and now mush align themselves both physically and spiritually in order to take advantage of the current offerings.  Wide swaths of water need careful contemplation if one is to make forays towards land with slides of true distance.  It can be accomplished and also distorted.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"An empire founded by war has to maintain itself by war." - Charles De Montesguieu

Another day with Spring on it's mind as we gaze towards sun-dappled ridgelines. The winds that made such havoc of yesterday have dissipated, but long from disappeared. Incoming vectors and H2O in high volumes are the shape of things to come, at least until afternoon. Perhaps spending some time on other pursuits is best until then, as only the shadow knows what morning holds.

CHANNEL: A trio of  hopefuls cast long shadows upon mole-hill breakers as they sit and wait.....and sit.....and wait. Though there may have been quality that these sliders sought, it largely appears to have passed them by. I had many friends this morning, I'm the only one this evening....

PATCH: A duo of familiar faces in the usual places as the meager offerings are made the most of at present. A mild chop does not go unheeded as one makes one's way, but all accounts point to mild successes and neoprene dresses as inside rights hold forth and hold court for what seems like minutes, but may indeed be years. Slow and Low like classic BO, get in, find it, and become something else.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"You'll never live if you are looking for the meaning of life." - Albert Camus

Balmy and breezy as temps hover in higher numbers than have been observed in many a moon. Debris strewn streets and tree branches litter all approach routes, so be mindful should decide to take the plunge. Though it appears spring has arrived, it has brought no additional gifts, as the tide only continues to fill up boat ramps and state champs at this early hour. The later times hold the only glimpse of hope, and even those may be fleeting.

CHANNEL: Forlorn and breeze-blown, as a chaotic scene of whitecaps and knee-slaps is all that is offered. Currently empty of seekers and sliders, and with good reason.

PATCH: A frustrated duo seeks  justice among uneven and inconsistent seas. The outcome? Denied. Though one admires the determination of these brave souls, that admiration comes at the cost of the facts. As the seas recede in later hours, one prays the forms take shape, but that, as all things, remains to be seen....

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." - Edgar Allen Poe

A beautiful day for the beach, unless you're a football fan. Super bowl Sunday has us debating the long trip out. With the streets packed and the sun out, it is looking like a perfect day for the beach, know the tides and come at the right time. Morning is (almost) always prime

CHANNEL: Men standing up on the water, more than swimming in it. SUP's rule dawn patrol today but now with a little more competition from the log riders. Waist + but inconsistent and too much water. Long periods of sitting and contemplation.

PATCH: Still looking better than the Channel with a bit more consistency. May get better with outgoing tide but who's to say. Knee-Waist.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money." - Margaret Thatcher

Sweet, sweet sunshine reminds us of the summer days we miss so much. Bright and energetic is the morning as rising souls make their way to the water. Parking is already nil and the day is starting quick. No access to beach currently but as the tide drops to a negative, there should be enough sand for everyone.

CHANNEL: With high tide just around the bend, the Channel is filling to max capacity and is nearly overwhelmed. Still there are always possibilities, take the biggest log you have. Try outgoing tide.

PATCH: Ramps of almost significant size shape themselves before slowing. Knee to waist high but no bigger. Consistently inconsistent.

Come and discover the summer day here in Bolinas when it should be winter. Still a bit of a chilly breeze but not enough to blow away the sunshine. Swell hitting and looking mostly clean. A rare sight here so come and enjoy real surf while it lasts.

CHANNEL: Chest high sets but rides not lasting for as long as we would hope. Intervals of standing still occur but the sight and ride is worth the wait.

PATCH: More populated and more fun? Similar conditions with a bit more consistency. Waist high and decent speed.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"Health is not valued until sickness comes." - Thomas Fuller

A deceptive  chill looms over an otherwise beautiful morning, with temps in the mid-40's at present. Though clear with an unbroken sunshine, tis' the zephyrs that are in charge currently. Not only are they bringing a bit of winter's bite as they blow, they are wreaking havoc with the small shapes as they approach the shores. There are hopes that these breezes of consequence will begin to dissipate as the afternoon slogs on, but you know what they say about hope....

CHANNEL: Droplets of whitewater are driven from knee-high peaks and backlit by a crisp sunlight in a stunning moment. Though striking, it is then that one realizes that this area is vacant of sliders with good reason. If the breezes indeed remain throughout the day, look elsewhere for your pleasures.

PATCH:  Zero players have taken the field, but one hears mumbling and stumbling from the blacktop locker room. Also ranging in a fair-to-midland range of slide-ability, but more protected from the destructive zephyrs. Hardly a day of legend, but with a careful eye, slides will be found.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"Rather be dead than cool." - Kurt Cobain

A beautiful day is upon us as the sky breaks free and the sun shines down. A bit of a breeze has us gripping our coats but conditions have us on our toes. Wonderful day to take a peek, slide a peak and stay a while.  The beach is accessible as of now and seems like the place to be.

CHANNEL: Small and un-ridden white water crumbles in. Its only company is that of a seagull

PATCH:  Water forming fun ramps about waist high but somewhat slow, and is clearly the place to be. Currently a crowd of large size all learning to share, so if you can't, stay away. Bob and weave and find yourself on a ride lasting as long as you can before it slows down.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you." - Frank Lloyd Wright

Unbidden and unridden as NW remains intact though at a lessor level.  Skies are bleary though currently dry and winds and tide are not factors of the equation.  Temps dip to 48F and crowds swell in search of that which satisfies the inner need.  The window is currently open if you care to slip in for a slide.

CHANNEL: Left leaning and sometimes leering peaks will emerge and spin with sub-optimal form.  Size is manageable and cresting at the shoulder high level upon further inspection.  Favorable tides allow for watching, waiting and wading as the ramp devils pose no threats this morn.  A wide expanse of opportunities awaits as waves develop all the way through to Seadrift.

PATCH:  Confounding and confusing to most not wielding carbon paddles as the farthest reaches beckon only to thwart most attempts.  Inner regions show promise but at a more modest means.  There are small rewards to reap today as we find reason to approach between the unsavory storms.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." - T. S. Eliot

Tragic skies though no surprise as new wetness descends as predicted.  Raging S winds and growing swell a combo not benevolent to morning slides or staying dry.   Temps all the way up to 57F the only current factual positive to report.  Hefty helpings of flowing water are upon the seas as continued NW swell amplifies and forms though translation remains an unwritten language today.

CHANNEL: Pulsing with storm driven peaks defying all logical reason and direction.  No lessor evils here to slay this fine morning.  The waiting game for those dawn crackers may well reach into a new day as the current weather has just settled in.

PATCH:
Terrorizing suckers on the seven seas
And if you've got beef - you'll get capped in the knees
We got sixteen men on a dead man's chest
And I shot those suckers and I'll shoot the rest

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"Human life is as evanescent as the morning dew or a flash of lightning." - Samuel Butler

Moon beams and hollow dreams as we welcome another morning.  Tinted skies are a treat for the eyes as sailors determine what warnings to heed.  Temps blip and dip then settle on 47F.  A rising NW swell and Easterly winds have favorable tendencies that are attempting to manifest.  The present is full of promise.  The future remains unknown.

CHANNEL: Pushed well over into the deeper Channel region and bordering on Seadrift territory.  This is where the masses congregate as 280 degrees seeks to find purchase.  Lopsided crests formulate and fold with less than adequate delivery and shortened rides for the crew.  Neither right nor left holds the secrets as both allow but for abbreviated periods.

PATCH:  Awash with potential and luring a lessor contingent of sliders seeking solace from the throng.   Hit and miss with peaks popping but not rocking - yet rides are in the offering for those positioned correctly.  Tides and winds remain supportive today and may endeavor to dispense advice once your secrets are finally told.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots." - Marcus Garvey

Foggy and groogy en route, yet a certain sunlit clarity reveals itself closer to the breakers. The breezes are light at present, but look to be all over the road as day progresses. The promise of the immediate future seems to have tongues flapping and minds reeling with possibility. This is the calm before the storm, however, and expectations should mirror the  mood. Remember, some men just want to watch the world burn.

CHANNEL: I watched a snail crawl across the edge of a straight razor....That's my dream... . That's my nightmare....

PATCH:  A dozen or so of the decidedly dogged seek stoke from classic Bo slow and low. Slight rights to the inside are being enjoyed and hoi polloi-ed as we speak. Let's shake our booties down by the dock. For it was there, as were we, and this happened to us all...

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"Perfection of planned layout is achieved only by institutions on the point of collapse." - C. Northcote Parkinson

Teary and bleary as a palpable mist holds forth and the temps seem stalled at 50. The tide rises quickly on winter mornings, and approach routes already show challenges and cracks in the pavement. A desperate streak runs beneath neoprene feet as the domain, in large part, is that of the paddle tribe.  Reason may argue with one's intentions, but let not the wisdom of your forebears prevent what must be yours...

CHANNEL: A lone sentinel cast a long shadow as all indicators point to a time of quiet reflection and self-assessment. Shapes and motion on are the menu, but again, the quality of the nourishment is in question. Some gems may be unearthed from the stoke mines, but a monk's patience is the price of admission...

PATCH:  The usual suspects patrol the outer reaches with a furious gusto, and lo, the paddles cut through the humid air as if a katana. Those merely employing shoulder and hand fair not as well. A mix of confusion as winds heave and bellow, then disappear, and sets rumble upon one another, only to suddenly create something from nothing. A discerning eye and a fire in the belly indeed.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day:
"When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." - Maya Angelou

Skies are gray but lots of light is shining through and another beautiful day has begun. Current temperature is 47F and winds are not letting us hold much heat. Morning time looking best for the day, most likely if you aren't here yet, you've missed the day's peak. But it is never too late to pack up your favorite log and go.

CHANNEL: No sign of life in the Channel due to no surf. Most popular seems to be right out the boat ramp for good reason. Fun knee-waist high ramps coming in but not at significant speed. As of now this spot is inhabited by at least 15 so share or beware.

PATCH:  Some rides can be found if patient and if one can get there. Paddle out or make the treacherous walk but either way steer clear of the wall. Most action happening in front.
