Surprises are always nice but not always expected. With less mild temperatures and breezy days, the crowds are kept to a minimum but the waves at an all time bummer. Sitting in the morning and play in the day. Beach puppies and sandy bottoms will be the option.

CHANNEL: Sunny patches but seaward rolling fog is the backdrop. Sitting is about the best.

Soggy is the morning and cold is the day. Wet roads and leaping toads remind us where we have arrived. Misty morning fog covers the bay and the sun has yet to be seen, so keep an eye out at the sky. Current temperature stands at 60F but feels cooler. We hope for sunshine but often are let down. Keeps your hopes high and expectations mid-range.

CHANNEL: Sitting, waiting, wishing for something better. On occasion one will find something to ride.

PATCH: Tall totems taunt the tides. Not a lot going on unless you like to sit and chat.

The morning brings more of the new water babies as others stay alone in hiding for the future. With spaces filled and an abundance of the water fetuses, the air stays calm with a hint of possibility. Many seek today, and there is a chance of a finders fee.

Early morning revelations sing praises to Jah as NW windswell holds and SW swell fills in and stakes a claim.  Tides pushes forth and gives a wide landscape upon which to view and verify.  Pick up trucks with fins stuck up saturate all available parking spaces as light begins the full reveal.  Temp is 61F, winds remain slack and high fog dusts the mountain tops.  

CHANNEL:  The incoming tide flows over solidified sandbars and the results are groomed if not significant in stature.  Lefts for logs with connection sections have weekend worshipers willingly putting on wetsuits.  Now is the time as it will be a bit high tide-ish soon.  The swings are moderate and alternative options will become more or less present during the day.

Very little activity on the radar and translation into waves is hazy at best.  The stoke meter flickers at the hope of new swell but long range forecasts don't help the surfer of today.  A gust from the S winds has textured all surfaces keeping them shifting though relatively flat.  A nudge from the incoming tide may lend the helping hand needed to tip the scales forward and cause those in-situ to don suits and paddle out.  

CHANNEL:  Less and less as NW swell retreats.  Less and less as S winds blow.  Less and less as high tide fills in and swamps.  Minor movements that currently have lost their allure.

Another morning of true serenity briefly interrupted by the crash of trash can movement and dumpster emptying.  Fear not as you can disappear into the fog and emerge on the other side.  Moderate tides and meager swell offerings are on the menu board as Blue Plate Specials.  Keen eyes will capture moments in the mist and suiting up is an option for the restless ramblers.    

CHANNEL: As settled sandbars longingly await a fading NW swell we find ourselves marveling at what spins through unoccupied.  A perfect peeler of a minor stature is witnessed and unridden.  Perhaps a perfectly formed little left that leaves a smile on even the hardened faces.  With only residual energy emitted the opportunities are clearly presented.  


PATCH: Less and less as SW swell has faded into our unconscious.  Memories that may linger will be needed to tide one over until the next round rings out. For now a kayak dreamscape.

Rest easy young bucks. With the low on the horizon, both of the usual are empty and un-bountiful. With a high sort of blanket on the distant hills, which slick the roads, must be a mood killer, although the three that show are the three that still enjoy the last of the summer bliss. Mild temperatures are masked with gray which can elude to the oncoming.   

CHANNEL: Small and wonderous as one may say. A lone paddler enjoys the calm, although no one joins him in the lake-like waters. With nothing to play on in the wormy hours, there is always room for more later. 


PATCH: Try wait and see what is brought to the table. Sometimes the guests will not be served of what they wish, but who doesn't like dessert?

With the lowering tides, the earlier birds already caught the worm. But not to worry, the worms always wiggle back. Slow, and small the few that paddle out are not rewarded this morning. With fog blanketing the coast and the surrounding areas, it makes for a nostalgic scene as temperatures become steady.

CHANNEL: Waiting games can be fun, am I right? Hanging around the ankle may be all thats dished out for now but with changing tides, only science knows what will become.


PATCH: The floaters are not treated but any excuse to get wet will do. Certain tides may bring pleasure as others or more may struggle.

The tide is low and keeping most away waiting for more water. Few ponder but none catch. The sun is on it's way out but traffic seems to stand still. Not too chilly this morning with a current temperature of 58F and likely to keep rising.

CHANNEL: Low tide has the channel empty, but with a few more minutes of paddling you can find yourself an ankle biter or knee chomper. Try Wait.


PATCH: A mile away paddlers stand alone waiting for time to pass.

There is no name of the game. With exposed shelter and rough edges there is close to none for the taking. Rising tides may be bringing what is needed to steal the slightest hint. Only a handful are out this morning, and what they are given remains unsaid. 

CHANNEL: Lowering tides act as warning to all you water babies, as today you will just be sand babies in hope for a better water level later in the day. There is less hope but with time, the naval contemplators will lift their heads and watch the horizon for the incoming tide.   


PATCH: Slow and no go. The adventure-ees that gather are joined for rising tides as little sliders break slightly. Exposed rocks pose threat, but careful glides can be beneficial to the soul.

Sources of energy from briny depths have graced our shores.  A decided uptick in wave count and mood has turned frowns upside down and inside out.  Suits still damp from last night's session are pulled over aching joints and wounded knees as participants attempt to inject further stoke into their day.  A limiting caveat to be aware of - the very low tide is doing no favors this morning. 

CHANNEL: An approaching minus tide be damned as the procession makes its way towards the signal pole for assessments.  Que bonita es la manana?  Still and calm and warm and wonderful yet lacking the water to make things crank.  In an observational respect one can walk out as far as the horizon in search of what is missing in your life.  

PATCH:  Essentially a rock garden with minor right spinners upon the inner sandy reaches.  The building SW swell will engage best here as water levels rise to a covering degree.  For now there are options that work and others that won't.  Please choose wisely.

Sturgeon Moonrise Kingdom as magnetic forces draw people from far and wide.  Calm and sedate morning with winds at a lull.  59F says the thermometer and the skies are partially clear and partially not.  Rumor, innuendo and conjecture regarding a certain S swell cannot be currently confirmed upon these low waters.  Gravitational pull will have effects today so mind your tide tables and plan wisely.  A good morning to wash and recharge your crystals with positive intentions............  

CHANNEL: The current quintet entering these baptismal waters do so in a pedestrian fashion and appear as miracles.  On closer inspection they do not walk on water but through as low tide and board fins do not allow for paddling entry.  Dig out the alaia or better yet the proning board and avoid bottom contact while maintaining forward momentum.  Wave height unmeasurable.   

PATCH:  A daring duo up and out while bats still swirl have taken their stead at the farthest reaches of the Patch.  The journey was accomplished with the aid of carbon fiber paddle and seems a bit more like an exercise in exercise.  Forerunner S swell sentinels were visualized last night in the dying light and will need more water here to actualize into a rideable result.

A building NW windswell and budding S lends hope and optimism as we lurch forwards within the week.  The directional gradients align positively though current water levels allow for nothing to conceptualize.  A quick consult with a trusty tide log will allow you extra bed rest in order to be refreshed for when things get really crackling.  A steady stream of board toting vehicles suggests anticipation beyond reality.  I'll have a double rock and rye and 7 Carlings.  

CHANNEL: Not much go in this ebb and flow as negative tide levels extinguish efforts.  Willing sandbars stand ready and able and have experienced rumble and ripple during incoming water flow.  Early returns are marginal at best but the current ensemble entering the ocean emits stoke at all times.  

PATCH:  A wee bit of energy can be felt if not seen as cobble and slag are the most dominate observable feature.  An ooption from the deep may well be in future offerings but likely will need to wait for adequate aqua to return.

Misty and magical with heady wisps that delicately moisten all surfaces.  A less than triumphant swell generation and vastly low tides keeps all but the true believers and mis-informed tucked safely away under covers.   The road to salvation is paved with many bumps and disappointments and today has that distinct possibility.

CHANNEL: What surf? as early low tides erase probabilities.  More sand than necessary and not enough beneath the water.  Mid morning tide push may illuminate Mali-Bo inside rights as it has in days past but that is of little value to those current arrivals hoping for a wave NOW.

Heavy mist keeps creatures hidden but foxes and squirrels still roam nonetheless. Windshield wipers are on low this morning and a quick pace will have you wiping your face. The skies are dark and the current temperature is very close to that in the water at 55F - yet being in the water always feels so much better. Log day as per usual.

CHANNEL: Knee high- as always. Remains glassy from yesterday and looks like fun if you can paddle hard and be patient.

PATCH: Too much water has the Patch at a sit-still. Paddlers occupy.

The sun is nowhere to be found this morning as temperatures remain low and skies are dark. A thick layer of fog leaves mist behind and keeps the road damp. Parking is still a plenty as sleepyheads use days like today as an excuse.

CHANNEL: Occupied by a party of 5 as well as a few boats. Glassy but still only in the knee range. Incoming tide doing well but allows only logs.   

PATCH: Perfect glass. No wave. No swell.

Daily Surf Report - 8/14/2016

We again greet the morning with confused skies though the likelihood of sun is a strong contender.  Temps remain early pleasant at 55F and warmth was available in pockets yesterday.  Awash in a grey calm the seas tremble ever so slightly as the power of Aegaeon lays dormant.  All that is on offer is feeble windswell and moderate tides.  A beach day is a true option.  A surf day is under debate though many will clearly take the chance. 

CHANNEL: With the help of an incoming tide we do see some fluctuations along the Mali-Bo parallel.  Within the Channel itself there is adequate water to allow for breaking waves if they choose to participate.  The fishing derby is in full swing with competitors girded for whoopers.  Boat wake opportunities may be an alternative choice but do yield to watercraft under motorized power at all times.  Fish On! 
 

PATCH:  A paddler's dreamscape and many are frothing to participate.  Very meager inside waves along a bouldered bottom makes for potentially dicey exits and fin conflagrations.  Knee High minus.

Under cloudy skies with clearing potential we try to discern reality from myth. Strong black tea and keen eyes help to locate what truths are being revealed upon our waters today. With only faint traces in unusual places to help propel one along, looking inward for solutions may yield the most positive results. Push it along.  Push it along.

CHANNEL: A fully graded countenance is upon us.  Level in many ways to even the field.  Fluctuations are measured as ripples though they do reach the shore.  Periodic movements from the depths do signal potential.  The possibilities are endless and absent all at the same time.

Socked in and locked in below a bank of dense fog.  Thankfully no wind to speak of and the ocean exhibits very gentle undulations most suited for resting sea birds, boats, kayaks and SUPs.  Tide change is minimal and swell follows suit.  Temp rings in at 56F and sun will most likely be found just outside the town perimeter.  Peace and serenity is the order of the day and much appreciated by the PRD crew.  

CHANNEL: Smooth and silky.  Ripe for a quick dip.  A swim or paddle will grant you the most exercise though a small wave breaks unheard in the Channel proper and rolls through immaculately.  Knee high and perfect in appearance it make lack the energy to move surfboards along but just witnessing it in a pure form has fueled some stoke for another time.


PATCH:  A vacant and blank canvas.  Make of it what you will and want.  As long as rideable waves is not part of your vision you will be justly rewarded here.

Under cloudy skies we delve deep into the heart of darkness.  A lessening of desired swell and a steadying of SW winds keeps the fervor tamped down tight.  Moderate tides not helping the situation as no dramatic changes are in the offering.  Now it is 54F and foggy.  Sun salutations will be expected by 1pm - or later.  

CHANNEL: An unfortunate repeat of yesterday with very little positive to report aside from adequate tides and stabilized sandbars.  Swell is absent and wind is present.  A few hard boy stares being elicited as the morning marauders seek a change in the current course of events.
