Live at 8:00a.m. from Brighton Beach in Bolinas, California - the land that time forgot, here is your crystal surf report for Sunday October 9 2016.

Currently it is a cool 53 degrees with no breeze. Time seems frozen, yet the town is waking, moving and stretching its way out of the fetal position of a cozy night, or dropping from the cool trees from which they were hanging. All feet are finding their way to the ground and the march is on to find the wave to nourish the soul. Creatures are dropping drawers and sharing their wares as they don their suits of neoprene. The lot is filling up. Do the hustle.

CHANNEL: Looks good. Riders riding and one sweeper cleaning up last nights party. Waves look to be a little over knee to the mid thigh range.


PATCH: "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can." Said the little wave to no one at all.

A singular destination as determined by the plethora of mobile casitas occupying most level pavement.  Still mostly unassuming surf on tap with all swells hunkered down save for a minor NW.  Clear skies and the bright lights from the big city shine clearly across the pond.  50F with a slight chill on bare feet.  Bacon aroma in the early air has today a festival of sights, sounds and smells.  Wall walkers carefully assessing the few options as high tides swish and slosh against concrete and stone.

CHANNEL: Here the NW windswell has a chance and exhibits all it's got - which isn't much.  Still a consistent left pushing through as tide levels give things a fighting chance.  Size remains moderate and knee high on sets.  Rideable in a real sense and seems like the only game in town.  Lengthy logs stand a puncher's chance of success.

Chipper and chill but lacking much thrill as swells of consequence remain scarce.  A healthy mix of clear skies, sun, puffed clouds and no wind lend to the overall beauty the day has to offer.  Temps knocking on the door of 48F early and will warm adequately.  Limp and languishing ocean surfaces.  Even the tide shows little aptitude to swing high or low.  Those manning lengthy boards and wielding carbon paddles will find little opposition or company today.  

CHANNEL: High / Low / Mid tides are all cut from the same cloth and show no sign of change.  NW windswell mix all but depleted and shoremaker ankle breakers are the current contributions.  


PATCH: Nothing. Nada.  Zilch. A veritable nonentity today.

Depleted resources as all swells currently wane.  New period NW swell migrates down the coast at a trickling pace.  Innocent skies of a prophetic nature have no associated winds and have brought temps down to 51F.  Can't stop / won't stop the hustle as the forgiving faithful begin their morning processional.  Quietly unfolding day with the foundation for great promise ahead.    


CHANNEL: Here we hope to find the work product of the new NW swell - but currently do not.  Perhaps the angle of inception is causing a lack of reception at this time.  Tide levels are adequate and positive but the waiting game is in play for now.  Sentinels in the dark have made this location a main point of interest.

Magical mist with very little twist with generalized moistness upon hard surfaces.  Negative winds and 55F keep it real but all swells on the wane with nary any trace remaining.  The future is bright but a relative unknown and for now the surf situation remains in a state of flux.  


CHANNEL: Low tide vectors coupled with re-bar connectors as sand depletion exposes the boat ramp inner workings.  Tip toe through the dark with night dwellers supreme to find easy access with pitfalls along the way.  Micro lines that fail to unwind and deserted lefts await you.  Tide push is your glimmer of hope and uncrowded will hold steady today.


PATCH:  No mas S swell save for wind scraps and bilge rats.  A concerted effort to mine the furthest reaches is being undertaken and overshadowed by a horizontal sea surface.

Mellow vibes and micro rides as we reset and start a brand new week.  All but forgotten swells are packing up and hitting the road as it all eases down and unwinds.  Milky skies with a capacity to clear and temp of 50F ring true.  Minor offerings on tap and available for those in the vicinity.


CHANNEL: With mid-low tides now on the upswing this option is worthy of sampling.  Dwindling NW windswell has just enough remaining to entice.  Small stature rollers with more than adequate shape are the name of the game and the height structure suggests thigh high.  


PATCH:  Last gasps as S swell deteriorates.  Long lulls followed by languishing rights have the dedicated destined for this domain.  Try knee high + in an optimistic view.

Breathtaking morning as eyes clear and fully engage with the dawn.  Purple hued skies elicit all truths and temps chilled out to 49F.  No wind and a fine Fall feeling is in the air.  Still a pesky NW windswell of moderate makings keep the sandbars alive.  SW swell holds steady and fills in though now tide swings becoming a factor to contend with.  As in all things, we anticipate greatness and will settle for the mediocre.  


CHANNEL: A bottommost tide now ebbs and rallies itself for a concerted push.  Mind and body are engaged and the oceanic spirits are somewhat willing.  Note the shallows in the early hours as exits may come quicker than anticipated.  Note the healthy tides in the afternoon as too much of a good thing can be a negative.  Note the tidal withdraw as evening approaches as it may bring a rip and whip to the party.  Knee high lefts available now.

Early expectations are unmet though a steep S swell lays the foundation for positivity.  Low tides now pushing back will start to fill in the voids and elicit more stoke as the day grows old.  Clearing skies with a touch of Westerly wind has chilled things out to a mild 52F.  Brilliant morning verging on beautiful as plans are plotted and destinations determined.  


CHANNEL: Consolidated sandbars form the backdrop for the current NW windswell as it further fades and the potential groundswell forming in the nether reaches.  Shallow times and sand islands in the early light will need time and tide throughout the coming hours to find balance.  Upon corrected conditions connections rather than rejections become the norm.  


PATCH:  Some show and go while others consider and converse.  All will eventually end up with slides to exceed initial observation.  Broken toesies and chopped off nosies will all benefit from the current climate and the filling swell / tide combo.  Well, then I better just take two portions of that.

A carefully considered calm under early morning light as the village sleeps soundly.  Scavengers lope along undisturbed though easily perturbed in search of daily nutrients.  We stoke seekers may well have to forage deeply today as swells of consequence have left the building.  Something fresh and new may be on the horizon but calendar pages may need to first turn before any benefit is realized.  Coastally cloudy, relatively tranquil and 56F - just how we like it.


CHANNEL: Still finding solace in the last tatters of NW windswell as it fades and fades.  Centrally focused on the inner Groin province and capable of producing lefts that last with a size that doesn't.  Store the shred sled and unearth the longest log and you may well find the wave you are looking for.  


PATCH:  Clearing light removes all secrecy and paints a clear picture that is lacking magnificence.  Some inner Snags whitewater under lowered tide conditions are the only offering and finding few takers.  Time, water and future swell are all required to turn this frown upside down.

Slippery slopes as the weather plays rope-a-dope and brings a cooling fog inland.  A briny dampness prevails and intermittent wipers are required.  Not much wind associated and temp registers at 56F.  A lessening of all surface rumblings as swells wane and retreat.  Quiet conversations as solitary members suit up and all fevered movements are calmed.  


CHANNEL: Largely depleted as supply runs out.  Orders on the way but delivery is unknown.  A we turn towards Fall our expectations rise and are we up for the challenges ahead?  Still movement upon these waters and mainly situated on the Groin sandbars.  Lefts and lefts with nearly thigh high height though mainly congregating around ones knee. 


PATCH:  A mystery untold as tea leaves must be read to ascertain accurately.  Bordered in mist.  Enclosed in fog.  There are those heading this way and others consider following.  Be forthright in your decisions but be willing to consider other options.

High hopes and heat waves fuel those seeking shelter from the swelter.  As all things dissolve we are left wanting more in a lesser reality.  Another morning of rosy skies that tell no lies and NE winds continue to blow warm.  Our current temp of 56F will likely rise well above and the ocean beckons to many on this hot Fall day.  Swell remnants give rise to occasional rollers as damp suits drip from all outside railings. 


CHANNEL: Dropping daily but still delivering like a local paperboy.  The news is not as favorable as in past days but still worth a look and a read.  Languishing lefts of knee high stature wont test stamina but possibly your will to suit up again.  Incoming tide giving that extra push has tipped the scales for some while others ponder and live in yesterday's memory.

Deliberate and dwindling under tinted morning skies.  Trending and bending down as both crowds and swell vacate.  Still enough potency to stoke the early efforts of many as the usual suspects lay claim to Monday's share.  More inland heat on tap and the coast rings clear and bright with 57F.  Get some now - save some for later. 


CHANNEL: As light breaks a clarity comes through and exposes a shapely left unoccupied in the present tense.  Though only a fading NW windswell propels the profile excites while the size drops.  Smooth and silky and worth a glance or movement towards.  Approach without reservation and only good intentions.


PATCH: Less volume of the multitudes in mathematical associative property of an aging swell.  Attempts will not be wasted as surf does still preside but in lesser quantity and quality than the past few days.  Tide swings becoming more pronounced and therefore will effect the ultimate reality of your experience.

Shrouded and crowded in the pre-dawn light.  Double stacked racks as NW windswell jumps and S swell bumps.  Energetic ocean though some skeptics expected more.  Filling tide may make for wild rides with easy beach access dwindling by the hour.  Shorebreak and backwash are the dominant factors currently.  Wind is light and temp is notched in at 55F.  Skies are clear, blue and true.  Inland heat will drive masses to the beach for a brief respite so expect congestion here, there and everywhere. 


CHANNEL: A touch elevated as the NW windswell upticks.  Shifting sands and pushing tide now getting Mali-Bo into the act.  Rollers and bowlers in the waist high size would not be out of the question.  Youthful exuberance will take a backseat to careful and measured planning as more foam will always be your friend.  Have no foes and let love fill your heart and mind on this fine Fall day of beauty. 


PATCH: In conjunction with an incoming tide and elevated S swell some prophesies are fulfilled.  The foundation is laid for solid construction but the windows of opportunity have smaller panes than usual.  A jaunt up and over is required to access this region and proper course of action is highly recommended.

Strap in and strap on as the weekend is open for business.  Heavy hordes hauling heady boards unfurl their wares in the breaking light.  News of swell spreads and tall tales from the tell-alls expands the circumference.  Shredders and go-getters all seek the almighty wave juice.  Tides and temps on the rise and we already see 58F and clearing skies.  Current solvable equation: Much water + much humanity + much fervor = ?


CHANNEL: Typical NW windswell in operation on these common grounds.  Gulls take flight and soar over peaks just upon the breaking point.  Sunrise over the Marin hills warms the face and even the darkest hearts.  The Fall season has begun and we welcome it with open arms.  Nothing outrageous upon said waters yet lefts do peel for measured yardage.  Note your tide tables and look for Mali-Bo to exist with incoming tides. 


PATCH: A SW swell fulfills its destiny and landed last night in the fading light.  Waves until exhaustion and dark now slumber and look to need a caffeine injection to ramp back up.  Fuller tides are not overly helpful in the current circumstance yet minor waves are being optioned on the inside while champions sit well out the back waiting for pulses from the deep.

Back in biz and ready to rock. Rejuvenation complete and eyes on the ocean prize. Fog on the deck as skies slowly clear. Temp at a chill 50F and wind remains a faint whisper. Clogged and congested streets with all manner of aquatic and terrestrial craft on full display. Various states of undress and much spandex as far as one can see as squads regroup. Dark tides and heady thoughts as a steady NW windswell remains. Steep and deep S swell is truly on everyone's mind yet currently a no-show to the party.


CHANNEL: Pesky and persistent and therefore drawing a thick crowd.  Plenty of tide and water level on the incoming have helped with a push and pulse.  Now a bit overrun in many respects but the morning is crisp and beautiful and the party is just getting started.  Thigh high rides are the normal norm.

PATCH: The crustacean contingent halted in their tracks as formulations and ruminations are not meeting expectations or collaborations.  As the tide drops spirits raise in anticipation of what may come or already be present within.

Clear skies cause the sun to shine bright on the water and blinding reflections obstruct our views. The water is shiny and clear but not so surfable yet. Mid-tide has the surf standing still for the moment. High tide may bring better luck, try wait as better days soon come.
