Daily Surf Report - 12/12/2016

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Tears are the summer showers to the soul." - Alfred Austin

Not a soul to be found in the cooling waters of Bolinas. 53F in the water as high tide ruptures the form of the ankle to knee high NW swell. Some may say perfect time to learn how to surf and those who say so may try though there is a lack of form and stability. Try to make the best of things even though it's 46F outside day still comes with some perks like this beautiful Monday.

CHANNEL: Too much water to have the good form and nice glassy texture we seek.  It sits flat in the Channel just waiting for the tide to flush out. Small chance of just ankle high waves in the afternoon do to the nonexistent swell.

PATCH:  Surfers waiting till the tide drops as some good leaner rides come into play today. Small swell forms after high tide. Might not be the best day to surf so try something new and make it the best of times.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Are right and wrong convertible terms, dependant upon popular opinion?" - William Lloyd Garrison

Be mindful while taking assessments from the boat ramp as the high tide has the propensity to slam into the wall and flow all the way up your pants just soaking everything you wear.  For now just a shore break in the center of the beach with a meager NW swell not able to find its way back home. The sun has risen as the day begins with not much surf to entice.  It is 45F outside and back to 53F in the cold mysterious ocean.

CHANNEL: Major high tides are bumming out the rides as a lack of shape creates much consternation.  Where does everyone go on their Sunday morning surf day?

PATCH:   With too much water rushing over the rocks no real form is being manufactured. Minor chance of swell later in the day when water levels flush out. For now - Try Wait.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The smallest deed is better than the greatest intention." - John Burroughs

Definitive deluge with a 99.9% chance of soakings.  Heavy stuff starts early and continues on.  Minor SE winds putting a lump on the bump as NW swells continue to prevail.  Outside temps hold steady at 56F while the ocean dips again and now reports 54F.  You're going to get wet anyway.

CHANNEL: Full tides deliver no rides as just too much water to allow for adequate fold-overs.  A few out front / boat ramp breakers have eyes on them but not many actual takers of chance so far.  Fair weather surfing is over for the moment.  This now requires more thought process and a committed undertaking.

PATCH:  Graced with some in general wind protection here we stare out over great expanses hoping to discern a rideable shape.  Occasional inside fare as water meets land has the hopeful leaning but not leaping this direction.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The past cannot be changed.  The future is yet in your power." - Mary Pickford

As the rain wages on there is a quieting of the winds which opens small windows of opportunity.  A small, but long period NW swell begins to fill in today and still backed with SW windswell aiming to add confusion and collusion to the mix.  Apparitions seem to appear and dissolve into foggy recess as the early eager forge ahead. Temp all the way up to 55F with cloud coverage in total.  Light rains and mellow S winds.

CHANNEL: Wavestorm Wranglers jonesing  for stoke will not be deterred.  Mild movements in opposite directions seem to send sliding sentinels forwards at random intervals.  That early high tide now retreating has access easy and softer settings once upon the waters.

PATCH:

The hurtings on me, yeah

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do." - John Wooden

Infused with rain and indicted with associated SE winds the day begins at a lackluster pace.  Current temp of 43F adds a chill to the damp as we bundle and huddle in wait of a reprieve.  The ocean is quite kicked up but not clean or inviting.  Only the southerly windswell and onshore flow as primary wave producers.  Outside activity limited to car shuffling and feather ruffling.  Waiting to see who wants to jump in and play the fool

CHANNEL: Here, there and everywhere - all at the same time.  Jangled and jumbled with a touch of malice present.  Early higher tides show much water movement but not in any concerted direction.  Sometimes the options just run out.

PATCH: Why? As nothing configured resembling a wave makes its presence known we stare deeply and darkly in hopes of emerging shapes that never come.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The starting point of all achievement is desire." - Napoleon Hill

The world may well be flat as we begin anew and continue our revolution around the sun. Conflicted skies show blue, grey and red with unsettled weather apparent. Now it remains 44F and again we feel no winds. A dying off NW swell is no match for current desires and efforts may well go unrewarded today.

CHANNEL: Even with a time / space continuum at your disposal, the feedback is negative and prognosis grim.  Ankle high crippled ripples are all that is in play at the present.

In a place I know so well?
How could I be so broken

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Happiness is like a kiss. You must share it to enjoy it." - Bernard Meltzer

A Tuesday that lacks in effort and power as everything starts to feel defective. Higher angle  north swell that just gets blocked out. It's only 42F outside and it drops one more degree in the water down to 53F.  Take a dip and refresh.  Let the cold water just rush down your back as you enter the land that time forgot

CHANNEL: Just the passing of time as you sit there patiently, waiting for a wave that my not even exist.

PATCH:

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"He conquers who he endures." - Persius

Just a short time between two waves, as a swell, spread over thousands of miles by the force of its own destiny, strives to reach the shore. It all feels like infinity. Looking upon the horizon of a dusty night the city twinkles illuminate the way. Temperature is 47F with clear skies and slack winds. The sea cools but sits at 54F which is still warmer than the outside airs.

CHANNEL: As you sit and wait on the inside to catch fast lefts and some rights time passes and pauses all together. Outside reveals both a smaller and a bigger wave where the logs take their places.  Everyone is looking for a journey to awaken them for the beautiful day that shall come.

PATCH: As the swell breaks it's way to the sand the rights come as they go. The high tide ruptures the swell with just too much sea beneath us too see the fact of unnecessary addition. Just hoping the NW swell will be with us throughout the remainder of the day as it continues to bring joy to the populace.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Gray skies are just clouds passing over." - Duke Ellington

As they come, as they go, with the day starting off on the right footing.  Sunny skies that tell no lies and drifting clouds above. Temp of 46F for now.  As the fiery orb rises the day will unfold like there's no tomorrow. Suits are already in the water dripping and ripping as the early risers reap.  Those deciding to sleep in will still find goodness along the way.

CHANNEL: Dawn rising surfers  make their way into the cold musky waters. Be patient for the lefts as they will come and will be backed by a smaller dose of rights as well. Initial plunges feel like a stab to the head and may induce minor mind melds.  Ultimately it becomes refreshing and vibrant as the day goes on and off with some breaks in-between.

PATCH: Here takes the cake on this fine morning with a multitude of waves rolling in from the depths.  Rights and lefts with pure shapes and strong forms. Logs are catching everything on the rights and the SUPs get relegate to all the outside pockets.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Success is not the key to happiness.  Happiness is the key to success." - Albert Schweitzer

Developing day with fragrant undertones and foggy mountain tops.  Ripe with potential as a budding NW swell co-mingles with current energies.  Blossomed and sun filled skies with deep visuals.  Temp responds at 40F and all winds remain on strike and quiet.  First responders are already suited, booted and resoluted.  Small ensembles of sliders growing rapidly in number.

CHANNEL: Befriend the Groin pole as it can unlock secrets and lead one towards the primrose path.  Inner Channel occupation seems to be the funnel to satisfaction upon the incoming tide.  Seadrift beckons with rights unrevealed.  Size remains governed at waist high and shape is pure.

PATCH: Predominately staffed with early rising SUPs now giving way to loggers of all dimensions.  Large single-finned vessels will do well to ply the trade in this locale as rights roll through and water levels keep coverage optimal.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Endurance is patience concentrated." - Thomas Carlyle

Frosty double foxtrot morning that is gracefully groomed by gentle NE winds. An early cause for pause as we slow down the hustle. While current NW swell passes on and fades it will soon be replaced by another in its wakeCurrent vestiges are small but shapely and will certainly do until the new stuff hits the shelves.  Temp of 39F and brilliantly clear skies round out the painted picture.

CHANNEL: Inner Channel rights are sanctioned and evolving as tide change opens opportunities.  A bobbing pod of early sliders looks for signs from above with chromatic apparitions guiding the way.  A focal shift is required in order to succeed.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The best way out is always through." - Robert Frost

Another mid-period NW swell begins to rumble and attempts transformation later in the day.  For now we satisfy ourselves with snappy temps and skies of clarity.  The efforts of Winter are in play as we huddle with java and 39F airs.  Again no winds to foil plans and as the sun climbs above the Marin hills it seeks to warm cheeks.  All tidal configurations are well within specification range and the scouting for waves is right in front of your eyes.

CHANNEL: A shift in parameters has sliders pushed slightly south as positioning remains key.  Situated within the Channel confines rolls a peak to be shared or split as some go left and others do not.  Drift over and across to Seadrift and discover a land of rights just waiting for exploration.

PATCH: Imaginable potential as the higher low tide forges forwards along middles and the Snags.  Brimming with optimism and the promise of right lines and nose rides.  All are withing the realm of possibility if you can see the forest for the trees.

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Whatever was is now gone as we seek reality in the hump of the week.  Gentle lappers and ankle slappers for the current toe tappers as swells exhaust and fade.  A bit of drizzle and drip but winds remain still and temp stands defiantly at 48F.  There are those seekers making valiant efforts to corral some stoke with rewards in accordance.

CHANNEL: Faded forces now relegated well inside the Channel or hugging the Groin pole.  Incoming tidal push has the impulse to provide but not the full juice.  Glassy surfaces burnished grey as clouds cover as if keeping the day under wraps.

PATCH: Eeeking out an existence with last gasps. Rights being ridden under the propulsive power of the mighty carbon paddle tribe. The potential for log rides is certainly in the realm of possibilities.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"To fear love is to fear life, and those who fear life are already three parts dead." - Bertrand Russel

Just another slow Tuesday as the small NW swell makes its way to the shore line. Little rides and slow minds as high tide rises to the point of too much water to fully enjoy this beautiful morning.  It starts cold with a crispness and temp of 44F but as the day flows on it will reach a high of 58F. The ocean's body of water drops one degree as it settles to 56F - toasty.

CHANNEL: Lingering NW swell does nothing notable to the Channel but some small slides are available for now. A suggestion is go for a hike to enjoy what you can without much swell to distract you.

The swell weakens and tires as if wanting a nap but those that desire slides may still find a morsel.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Strength does not come from physical capacity.  It comes from an indomitable will." - Mahatma Gandhi

Storm driven but not wind riddled as we settle in with turkey leg entrees and sugary sweets. More NW swell marches in and now buffered by a southern wind-swell to add confusion and combination to the mixture. Maximum tide will provide a magnitude of rides within a carefully selected conditional rate.  Surf Swap commences today - Rain or Shine.  We've got hot coffee and lots of donuts so come on down......

CHANNEL: Rain sifting and shifting from heavy to light.  Relatively mild winds considering and not adding any extra negatives to the soggy start.  Size up 2 clicks as NW swell regains footing and forges forwards.  Lots of tide height and ramp flights as water sloshes in and out.  Lose you way then find it again.  This isn't Russia.  Is this Russia?

PATCH:
Well I do my best to understand dear
But you still mystify and I want to know why
I pick myself up off the ground
To have you knock me back down, again and again
And when I ask you to explain, you say

You've gotta be cruel to be kind, in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind, means that I love you, baby

Tides begin peaking causing less wave breaking but the energy exists and may grow during the day. Smooth textured facades ready to unleash remain on tap through the weekend.

CHANNEL: Not hitting on all cylinders but allowing for a wide spread of options to consider.  High tide adding some extra mush to the already lumpy potatoes.  Plenty of water moving around and some corners will hold form and allow for rides of length and merit.  Size may reach up to one's shoulder currently and that is likely to change during the latter part of the day.

PATCH: Keep it real and know the deal with the current crew of log-jammers. Enough west in this swell to permeate and penetrate with rights popping off and roiling along.  Middles shows the most promise and intrigue with waist high walls to occupy one's mind.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." - Albert Einstein

Rain heavy at times, then light and now giving way to clearing skies and fields of blue view.  Sunshine predominantly featured with temp of 48F and zero wind.  While a new NW swell readies to fill the void we must occupy our time and thoughts on that which we are thankful for.  The waters are not helpful in this area today but hopefully for future days with family and friends.  A calm and collected time to gather those close to you for a big group hug.

CHANNEL: Lacking, slacking and brain racking as the pod of demanding sliders has migrated across open waters to the Seadrift confines in search of early nourishment.  Peaked tide not helping the matters in the Channel as a dearth of groundswell has surf on temporary hold.  Smooth waters and settled seas deliver beauty if not bounty today.

PATCH:
Who tells me babybabybabybabybabybabybabybabybabybaby....
Better come back later next week
Can't you see I'm on a losing streak
I can't get no
No-no, no
Hey, hey, hey
That's what I say
