Daily Surf Report - 1/17/2017

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The sweetest of all sounds is praise." - Xenophon

The early morning crowd takes there fair share and leaves just a bit of leftovers. Now the NW swell in concert with a small South swell are just skipping across Bolinas like we don't even exist. Up to 46F out side with a chilly 52F in the cooled and murky waters. Suns rays shine down to warm the earth with 6 MPH winds doing their deeds.

CHANNEL: Only small rides with some ankle high rollers with the NW swell deciding to duke it out with the S swell and just making it unbearable to surf. Do something new today and just have fun on this slow Tuesday morning.

PATCH: Smaller rights breaking on the outside with some good durable rides mingled among the sluggish few. If you're willing to learn today's your day where nothing is to big and right in the amateur comfort zone.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The moral arc of the universe bends at the elbow of justice." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today's the day! Get out your logs and hit the early morning breaks. Mid NW swell with a little S swell breaking in after low tide. Even though the outside air is only 42F the water is 53F and inviting on this beautiful holiday Monday.

CHANNEL: The resoluted suited take their waves with pride as there's not too much going on at the moment.  Just be patient with the lulls and a nice juicy ride will come into play. A heady mix of a NW with a smaller S swell plays pop goes the weasel when it finally rolls in.

PATCH: Rights inside, rights outside.  Looking upon the horizon we see the swell rolling in and gaining purchase all the way to kingdom come. Waist high drivers makes the day great with smaller insiders for those who might want to learn.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Defeat may serve as well as victory to shake the soul and let the glory out." - Edwin Markham

The clouds from the early morning dew dissipates into the blue and sunny skies. Bright rays now shine down upon with a blistering bite as it's 45F out in the wilderness. Recent rains raise the water temp all the way up to a nice 54F.  Energy from the NW adds to the S swell just mixing up the surf for those early morning loggers. Some may say it's small with slow fun rides for the remainder of today. Don't forget the high tides will rupture the pathway to heaven.

CHANNEL: Some logs looking out into the wide open. Searching and hoping for ankle high waves Just wasting time with nothing to be found in this land of shattered dreams

PATCH: Small rights coming from the outside are making their way to shore. Logs are a must for the thigh to waist high slow drivers. High tide starts to softening the surf for a big part of the day. Just another average joy in the small crowded town of Bolinas.

Daily Surf Report - 1/14/2017

Inspirational Quote of the Day:

"You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try." - Beverly Sills

A fully flushed sun mingles with frosty temps and now seeks to melt ice and provide thermal heat.  A morning to pause to take in your surroundings and determine what it is you truly value.  Might be time to take a trip in the Wayback Machine.  36F briskness outside seems to dissolve as you enter waters positively balmy at 53F.  Again the winds stay withdrawn and absent.  Will remain dry through Monday then all bets are off.  A moderate mix of NW and S swells combine to erect wave flow for all our enjoyment.  A smooth ocean surface adds to the mellow vibes and morning slides.

CHANNEL: Mostly a waiting and debating game with episodic splashing. Aligned within the Channel and along the Groin wall - featureless rights make a slow delivery for the bobbing cluster. Tide levels remain adequate and pushing higher. A swamped situation will not improve the progression.

PATCH:

Frozen feet on a winter street, man that ain't your fate,
Greased in the sun, California fun, man that's more my style.
Inside rights with open secrets to share.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase." - Martin Luther King. Jr.

Sunshine with impending warmth is a welcome sight for wet eyes.  Clear and blue at 36F with light to nil E winds.  Glorious start to the day and happy to finally be drying out.  Still experiencing the trickle down effect with seeping hills and weeping trees.  Roads are open and the primrose path is paved to the ocean.  Residual W swell backed with elements from the S are conspiring to convey a confluence of waves.  The ocean is finally smooth and welcoming to all.  Mind the tide swings from late morning into the evening as 9' of water will be changing hands.

CHANNEL: Fighting for purchase upon indiscriminate bars as we patiently wait for a settled countenance.  High tide flow has the Groin wall submerged but it may be too much water coupled with not enough actual swell.  Not a well attended destination currently

PATCH: Here the siren's call is loud and clear with loggers languishing at the far reaches.  Insider trading shows rights with positive intentions but no investorsMore tide coming and softening the surf.  Participation high but well spaced considering the venue.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." - Joseph Campbell

Full moon rising over partially cleared skies lights the way as we fight through all that Mother Nature deposits.  Roads are passable yet tenuous so continue to be mindful and use good judgment as trees are still toppling and the next mudslide is right around the bend.  For now we have no rain (with a high likelihood of change) and hope to dry out and recharge some stoke in the form of an ocean entry.  Still highly churned from recent storms and winds though a certain calmness welcomes this day.  Kings tides continue to play a role with ingress and egress and all limits should be internally heeded.

CHANNEL: Overwhelmed and undersold as mucho macho waters move through seeking newly formed sandbars which have yet to settle.

PATCH: Rights are starting to reveal themselves in the early light at moderate water levels.  Extreme high tides are on the near horizon at 6' high and rising.  Potential and possibility are mixing in the mist.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Faith is not a delicate flower which would wither away under the slightest stormy weather." - Mahatma Gandhi

Another deluge has left roads flooded and debris strewn.  Some are open and passable while others remain closed or down to a single lane.  Morning kind tides are only adding to the already high water levels.  Use caution and good judgement if you are out driving as please remain safe at all times.  The shop remains closed as the effort to make the journey will not yield any wave rewards and we would rather everyone stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Pineapple Express storm in full effect with high winds and real rain.  Coupled with high tides which will continue to flood creeks and make traveling a chore.
There are already many local roadways closed.  Power is out in many W. Marin communities as well.  If you don't have to be out driving today then hunker down and ride it out while trying to stay dry.  A book, hike or movie is a better option than attempting surf today.

Doom from above in the form of rain and high winds.  The heavy stuff is coming down already and roads are treacherous at best.  Saturated soils and shallow root systems are a recipe for falling trees and deteriorating branches.  High tides will add to the soggy mix and road flooding is a distinct possibility.  Not a day to surf or even attempt the journey.  Stay dry and hunker down until the system passes through.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"How you treat people it their karma; how you react is yours." - Wayne Dyer

Dry and clear - for now.  Frigid and frosty with ice ice baby.  A white crystalline wonderland covers all surfaces as temps plunge to 32F and hold steady.  Remainders and remnants of bygone swells still hold our attention with a budding SW swell eeking out a small existence.  Minor brewings and something stewing while we take quick dips before the next round of storms hit.  Water temp down a click to 52F.  Winter is truly upon us.

CHANNEL: Full of tide and a modest amount of vigor this morning.  Freely folding over along the Groin Pole zonal and pushing along into Mali-Bo.  Varying amounts of length to ride from nothing to yardage as the rights run along a shifted sandbar.  A worthy option considering the choices and subject to change at a moment's notice.

PATCH: Yes a diminutive right directed wave can be observed and surfed upon said waters.  Invigorated slightly with new SW momentum and now propelling to heights reaching thigh high.  Foraging ferrets may find to their liking.

Clear and calm in most all respects.  A chilled out 41F with no winds and no emerging swells.  Roads have cleared along with the skies which are full of sunshine and bright glory.  Only paltry windswell actions from multiple directions to contend with.  Mas storms are coming so get in when, where and while you can.

CHANNEL: Very small and nearly flat conditions as early morning high tides drain out.  Glistening ocean surfaces burnished in gold make for picturesque backdrops to the Marin hills above.

CHANNEL: The winds are just cutting off the small NW swell as most of it is slop chop. Due to high winds blowing head on, some people might ask themselves what am I going to do. Well try something new and give it your all as the ocean had a little to much to drink.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Our entire life - consists ultimately in accepting ourselves as we are." - Jean Anouilh

Cold and wet roads start off the day with light winds and a chance of showers later. Small but rideable NW swell takes place in the 53F ocean and it holds form at 44F outside. For those looking to start 2017 right, come on by and check it out. Today might be your learning + resolution day so just make the best of things as the NW swell lacks in effort and stability.

CHANNEL: High and low tides will make the difference in today's small lefts as the wave comes rolling slowly to shore. Smaller ankle to knee high waves makes the day go on as its always a good day to try something new and adventurous.

PATCH: Small rollers come to play and the rights have a small kick.  Loggers suit up for a early morning of fun and frivolity. Throw in some goofy moves to make the efforts endure and ride it like its you're last. Ankle+ waves making things meek but moving.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old; here's to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold." - Unknown

Serene and sweet start to the day and year as the sun gently crests the hills and allows us to assess the scene.  Chill in the early light at 37F but with clear skies and light NW winds we know the day is full of promises yet to be kept.  Revolving NW swell now down to wind-born residuals but resolutions are at their peak and one must hit the water.  We're always here to help you foster a new relationship with Mother Ocean.

CHANNEL: A high low tide gives coverage in some of the right places and now coupled with the incoming tide releases a morphing right-hander upon the Mali-Bo inside bar.  Small in stature but not to be overlooked or misjudged as it currently seems to be the only wave in play here.  Offerings run up to knee high + and the prognosis is middling at best.

PATCH: Highly coveted miniature wave pockets persuade the morning masses to congregate and praise Jah.  Touched with early morning light and slip sliding to the right is never a bad way to start the day or a new year.  Suit up and ride like it's 1999.

"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards." - Soren Kierkegaard

Initially forbidding skies now yielding towards blue as small pockets of rain wash the day clean. 44F and light NE winds keep it simple. Deep exhalations as we ready ourselves to end another year and turn favorably to something new. Lingering and languishing NW swell fosters the resolve to seek stoke. Tides are high and higher with only evening low swings to contend with. Let today be the day to celebrate the wonder and beauty that surrounds.

CHANNEL: Only inner bar Mali-Bo rollers have the focused early energy as a committed duo dabbles and dances along. More a day of reflection rather than refraction as the current swell fades along with the year.

PATCH: Gracefully groomed peaks have most setting sights and destination accordingly. Thigh high right molded rollers are the offering and a loggers delight. Tides cover all and may eventually swallow the swell. Action is key with no delay.

Yet again we celebrate the sun with open arms. Wind is not as futile today but still remains and visits when unexpected. All water ways are accessible but that will change in minutes. Extreme tide swings still in play and affecting all that come to join. Soon it will be a paddler's race to something that can be shared, but slow and steady always wins.

CHANNEL: A group gathers here to sit and chat. Mostly waiting but can you make it worthwhile?

PATCH: Go or don't, that's the big question. Decide with your head, not your mind. Join the pack and resolve any problems you may have with a knee high slow roller. Beware of afternoon stones.

HIGH WIND TODAY

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Knowledge will give you power, but character respect." - Bruce Lee

Gusty winds circle around the water but the air remains warm inland. Bright skies wake us from our dreams and lead us into the endless possibilities that await us today. Temperature feels oddly warm but nonetheless pleasant at 56F. Be thankful and take in the fruits of life today as the we fade deeper into winter but find a brief respite here today.

CHANNEL:  Not all that much to shout about. Extreme tide swings have the Channel confused and alone. Few inhabit this area waiting for further instruction.

PATCH: The high incoming tide on its last push. Beware of rocks in the afternoon, for now is the time. Wind is blowing and water is at knee level. Find a reason or don't, strike when the time is right, strike now.
