Swirling masses and conflicting classes make a heady mix as rain soaks the whole batch to the skin. Gusty zephyrs inflict chaos upon already choppy seas. Breakers made more of sand and silt than H2O crash unrecognized upon walls of asphalt and concrete. Seabirds make frantic and fruitless searches for a break in the morning's fast as even the most steadfast or foolhardy of sliders know that the battle's already over...


 

CHANNEL:  No sand and the fury, signifying less than zero.

A dampness that soaks to the skin finds purchase as the remains of a dense fog dissipate into memory. A decided lack of activity tells tales of a thousand words as one observes ample parking and nary a neoprene-clad centurion at this hour. High tides and low vibes have the waiting game being played and the waiting room filled to capacity. Any opportunity, however limited those may be, lies in a hazy afternoon, as the waters recede and shapes may emerge from sand and brine, but that is uncertain.


 

CHANNEL:  Not a stitch of beach is seen, and the groin pole sits in deeper waters than is the custom. Even the canine residents mourn the loss of sand on which to romp, and those with dreams of slides sit atop sand blasted seawalls and mourn almost everything else. Rimbaud and deeply steeped black tea seem a better solution.

A blazing sun mixes with the warrior rush as the weekend greets us in earnest.  Though met with familiar landscapes they gather at the water's edge to ponder and perambulate.  Less than generous energy has feet shuffling and head scratching at an all time high.  With clear skies and early temps of 49F the day is full of probability and good vibes.  Though wave sliding may have fallen down on the top 10 list my best advice to you is - don't wait.  

 

CHANNEL:  A seemingly endless expanse of shimmering gold water bordered by green hills and wispy orange skies.  A nearly unbroken horizon save for less than occasional bumps which struggle to achieve what their ancestors deem acceptable.  The lack of materialization meshes with current desire and quandaries are met head on in real time.  Those with strong wills and a fondness for exercise may find the conditions to their liking.

With calm tempests and clear skies the opportunity for sporadic blips to materialize is upon us.  Though likely a day spent mostly on exercising patience and latissimus dorsi functions a peak may pop and can be watched or ridden depending on your current state of mind.  Unsettled elements on the horizon will have the later day seas planning an unforgiving turn of events. Tidal direction has the doors to access partially open and partially closed as well.  

 

CHANNEL:  Long, hard stares have dictated direction and society flows accordingly.  Though looking more like a mesa than a mountain, it lures those with carbon paddles to ply their trade of territory.  Those attempting to find slides of significance will need to lower their presumptions in order to achieve their fancy.

Glimmering morning as bright sun defeats terrestrial fog and temps of 49F welcome the day.  Variations on a tidal theme have passages open to existential relief.  Those with a vigilant approach will find contributions to their liking and slides in the making.  Morning whisks remain currently at bay though that may change in a moment's notice.  

 

CHANNEL:  While volume remains languid the shape has progressive desires and outgoing tides seek to mold and form.  Split peaks that delve both north and south have riders up and rolling with continuance being the foremost goal.  Look once or twice but on the third time go.

PATCH:  Shut down and shut out as longing glances are repeled by brilliant rays and a tempered wasteland.  Southern swells have receded into dormancy and while aquatic levels remain optimum the sights and sounds dictate otherwise.

Current temps betray the calendar as an unsteady warmth approaches. Exposed beach heeds the siren's call as tides recede at the current hour. Vectors determine spiritual transgressions and demand immediate reflection and self-actualization, but all who attend regular services amongst the breakers know, in their bones, that this is unlikely. Far from a day of infamy or legend, yet smaller offerings make themselves known to those that are mindful and willing.

 

CHANNEL:  The district sleeps alone tonight, after the bars turn out their lights. Void of shape and the domain of only canines giving chase to green felt.

PATCH:   A gathering crowd seeks solace within micro-rights and peelers that hold, if they don't shine. Watch for carbon paddles, as the tribe is out in force. Those with mere shoulders and a determined eye are procuring rides that brings smiles, and nods of approval, if not whoops and shrieks. Tis' what you make of it...

Morning falls heavily towards rocky shores and craggy coasts at present. Though rumors of the sun's warmth have surfaced, there is little evidence on display. Though free of fog and the howling zephyrs of yesterday, what remains in their stead brings only despair. Even the sea birds have left the dance early, content merely to cruise around town, trying to find where the action is. As always, the day will be what you make it, but a PMA will be mandatory should you seek to take the field.

CHANNEL:  A solitary tactician makes way through slow ripples towards an uncertain future. Even calm winds spit froth from atop small rollers on a path towards the lagoon. Whitout seeking, there are no answers, but often times, even a massive undertaking heeds no revelations.

A demonstrative chill and wind swept sand are in evidence as we greet an otherwise perfect morning. Mixed signals, mixed metaphors, and mixed veggies as slider's gaze towards blistering white caps and predatory pelicans. Though many of the pieces of the slider's puzzle are in display and in play, the challenge will be forcing them to fit one another, as the zephyrs have intentions of crashing the party, and bringing friends whom will be up to no good. I would have expected more from a varsity letterman...  

CHANNEL:  Blinding sunlight beckons from wind torn white water as nary a soul attempts the water dance of our forebears. A forlorn zone of dashed hopes and realizations stands in the stead of shapes of merit. Take note.

 

PATCH:  A quorum of the resolute attempt a heady route through shore break will ill intent. A larger gathering stands upon seawall and questions the validity of the entire sortie. Open my eyes, but I never see anything...

Damp skies and matching spirits as we happen upon a new beginning.  Passing storms leave precipitation and debris in their wake and now display hearty sunshine and temps in the mid 50s.  Though winds puff mightily they do so from a NW direction which has grooming potential and smoothing aspirations.  With tea leaves read and info digested the march begins as combers with positive intentions are being levied upon our shores.   

CHANNEL:  No beach, no problem as suited surfers dive headlong into fathomless foam and navigate the initial seawall.  Once upon the seas the opportunity for a measured appraisal will reveal less than one hoped for but more than is the norm.  With a pushing tide and pulsing energy one may choose from two directions upon which to attempt slides of panorama above  pitch.  Either way is the correct guidance as all roads lead to nowhere....  

 

PATCH:  Alive and well with solitude a laughable desire.  Bait fish scatter but it don't matter as peaks pop and perk with punctuality.  Water levels will climb as do wave heights today so make mental notes and file in the records room for later retrieval.

Heavy hearts see through heavy lids as we gaze unto the new day. Perspective flicks as neoprene ticks over wrist and shoulder, and one is overheard to wonder what it all means. Crowds not faltered by reality have already begun to gather, and will continue to multiply. All real estate is occupied and one should expect to heft one's watercraft of choice towards heaving seas. Take a breath, and remember. 

CHANNEL:  Situations and salutations clearly matter little as many of your friends and neighbors have braved morning chill, and a daunting shorebreak to make this space the place as of now. Rights and lefts and RIGHT and LEFT means all sliders are left behind. 

 

PATCH:  Far from the maddening crowd? Oh, not likely. As inside and outside sets are working and bringing hope for days ahead. Now is the time as tides so often bring change of consequence. What is happening?

Daily Surf Report - 11/13/2015

Tread lightly young grasshopper as the patter of tip toes on cold pavement and the application of morning wax can have unforeseen effects on the local scene.  With building excitement and increasing energy the sun crests the hills and beams down blessings and vitality upon the chosen few.  What early morning chill has been knocked off and temp sits at a robust 47F and rising.  A conglomeration of swells delivering variations on a theme with early hints of what is and will be......

CHANNEL:  With a low tide actually being near mid the time to strike is now as NW swell fills in and finds sandbars looking to arise and walk tall.  Lightly dusted with offshore flow the current conditions warrant tempered rejoicing and will have slides for sleds.  Surfer pods are examining both the deep Channel bar and the Seadrift domains in search of crystal cylinders.  Situational aspects will greatly determine one's success rate though it is hard to image not emerging from the brine without a smile upon your face.  

 

PATCH:  Suckers for S swells will relish the morning solitude as grinders and grovelers can be found without much struggle.  Low tide keeps the rocks masked and seagulls are used as directional markers.  Those with long handled paddles regard the well outside peaks while mortal creatures reside a modest distance inside.  Tranquility can be found in rights of varying degrees and rides are measured in a prismatic space-time continuum.  When was the last time I said "I love you?"

Daily Surf Report - 11/12/2015

Ttranslucent morning as crispy temps have early morning frost whispers and breath fog rising.  Clear skies and our brightest star bringing about a rapid temp change as the hills experience the rays.  Moderate swells hold true to form and give reason for pause and careful contemplation.  A lesser crowd as institutions resume their regular programing yet still a fair number of parked cars with empty racks have taken hold of the available parking.  Current beach access is a breeze though an actively changing scenario. Air temp says Fall though water temp still rings of recent Summer form.  

CHANNEL:  Low caliber in volume though well shaped.  Just not enough ooomph to exert domination over current water levels.   Not keeping the numbers low as a stong-willed quartet has laid claim.  Those combers with the capacity to break are doling out minor rides with directional variation of either right or left.  While distance is not the foremost factor it seems that early morning stoke is quite prevalent in the airs.  

 

PATCH:  A pesky S swell is attempting emergence and delivering with varying degrees of success.   Though long in fetch the size remains nearly a mystery and can be revealed periodically in the shape of thigh high waves. Water levels are near optimum and while the rides lack performance there is distance to balance.

Another misty mountain hop greets a fading fog and enveloping sunshine. A tempered excitement is palpable, and the line-up indicates this by headcount. While the tides will dictate the realms of possibility, the menu is offering soul food and nourishment of the spirit. Access is improved from recent mornings, but is far from casual. Watch that last step, the moose outside should have told you.

CHANNEL:  Well, well, what do we have here? More than a dozen of the intrepid, determined, and mislead have ventured forth at present. Though there is still some patience and guidance needed, shapes are being enjoyed and on occasion, ridden. Outside rights small in stature, but naughty by nature are the domain of half of the crowd, while more hearty offerings are being taken in by those willing to work for theirs. Watch for the song to remain the same.

 

PATCH:  Access in the form of a rapidly diminishing beachhead and a feisty shorebreak are keeping crowds limited currently. Those braving the froth are finding reason to celebrate, as shapes are not large, but clean and consistent. Sets roll along with a regularity that makes all bureaucrats smile, and slides in yards make things worth the while.

Blinding reflections at vital intersections meet with ricochet and sea spray at the outset of morning. Water levels range high as we greet clear skies and gentle zephyrs. As is rapidly becoming the new normal, approaching the breakers will take a careful reasoning as the access resembles a log flume less than the boat ramp we know and love. Everybody knows that the dice are loaded...

CHANNEL:  Forlorn whitecaps rush towards inevitability in brilliant light, absent of all forms, save the errant waterfowl. Though a decrease in overall levels may present small windows through which to slide, the current may have other plans. Take heed. And don't call me Shirley.
 

PATCH:  A small gathering of giant foam shapes encased in epoxy resin occurs currently. These forms are larger than the average bear, and come equipped with carbon paddles, at no extra charge. Though the approach is limited and harried, a brave trio seeks to find solace, though better results may be in the later hours, as the tide takes it's ride further south.

A morning already full of forboding and heavy vibes as the natural reaction to current conditions is simply to cry the beloved country.Even the simple act of gaining a vantage point requires fast footwork and a keen eye on approaching breakers, as the boat ramp becomes a tide pool and is eager to soak one to the bone. A quiet rain continues to fall, and it seems a better morning for hot tea and sympathy than pursuing slides. Though persistent shapes cast shadows, a receding tide drops all ships, and may offer a glimpse of possibility.

CHANNEL: No shirt, no shoes, no dice.

PATCH: A deep miasma overtakes a slider's soul as grey gazes and moon phases empty themselves into great quantities of H2O currently. Even the usual suspects have elected for other ventures and pursuits this morn, which should speak volumes.

Fog has covered the bay and is not permitting the sun to shine. It is cold and wet out here, not looking like a god day for beach tanning. Water running up the boat ramp with velocity and no entrance to the beach can be found. A strong breeze is keeping us cool but not doing any good for water conditions. Very choppy and messy but according to the crowds there is something to holler about. Holla

CHANNEL: Lots of water in the Channel as well as people. The mystery is: why?? Choppy and not much to ride, looks like a lots of standing around if you can balance on the ripples.

PATCH: Still wondering what the big deal is.

Magical morning as everything seems crystal clear in the world today.  The return of wandering travelers has tipped the axis and has things spinning out of control.  Plans are laid and execution awaits while we bide our time and coil like the cobra ready to strike.  Take advantage of the down days as surf remains a less than formidable foe.  SUPpers delight as morning high tides mix with meager swells to create a cataclysmic cycle drawing paddlers from far reaches to ply their trade upon nearly collapsed conditions.  Though the sun does blaze and skies are clear the temps remain seasonably correct at 42F. There are a few bumps worth a look and maybe even a sustained effort but best advice is Try Wait for less water and lower expectations.  Aloha Mr. Hand! 

CHANNEL:  In the Channel proper is where SUPs and boats have chosen to mix in a battle of aquatic dominion.  High water levels have most other spots in slumber mode as lack of swell cannot penetrate the heights above.   Knee reaching semi-waves can be stroked into by those with poles and paddles but mere surfers must wait out the endless hours for conditions to reevaluate and reconvene in a positive manner.

A microscopic mix of NW / SW have nerves tingling and most on the edge of their seats.  An absolute waiting game is in session as conditions conspire against slides of circumstance and length.  Though the zephyrs do not blow and the sun is brilliantly bright we find tall tides and tempered energy not to the liking of our current desire.  The initial morning chill of Fall is cause to pause and contemplate your place in the universe.  Look not for negatives and keep a healthy dose of positivity in your back pocket.

CHANNEL:  Meek and weak with only those of the long pole stroking club finding solace inside the Channel on small rights that require the extra propulsion of carbon shaft and plate.  An almost less than zero bump that shows promise yet is weighed down by too much overhead water.  Lower tide has afternoon openings for those wishing to reserve a spot in the lineup.

 

PATCH:  Out of focus and out of touch with blips of whitewater and circling masses of sea birds.  A kayak on a mission crosses the wide expanses on a journey to nowhere.  Question everything but leave this area a wide berth if your expectations demand standing erect upon a fiberglass plank.

Those taking a myopic view of the unfolding day may have missed the true beauty upon us.  While tides remain overbearingly high and swells evaporate into the chilling atmosphere - inside is not where you want to be.  Welcome the cooling Fall temps as they dip below 40F.  Relish in the calmer seas that do not harbor unholy masses.  These are the solitary moments that can leave indelible impressions upon one while likely not providing the slide of consequence or stature.

CHANNEL:  A slight bump that draws a small crew like flies to candlelight.  A meaningless blip with short-lived fate but frenzied motion.  A right, a left of such fleeting beauty and crystalline reflection it goes unridden.   Do not forsake all oceanic gifts as they will not be unlimited.
