The breezes and wheezes of a deranged change do blow heavy this early morn, as we gaze towards uncertain horizons.  Eras end and so we send the suited and booted into chilly waters of questionable quality. As is custom, the usual suspects grumble and mumble and speak of changes in latitude and changes in attitude. So much sound and fury, often signifying nothing. Classic Bo ripples bite at canine knees in monumental breeze. Keep blowing down the road.....



CHANNEL: Wind-chopped and mid-topped as the tide swerves all over the road. Keep your eyes on the prize and await the mythical as the minutes drag. No new tales to tell, only prayers for swell amid ne'er do wells...                                   

                 
PATCH: Ghosts and whispers. Fog and blisters. So this is permanence. This is the way, step inside.Dance, dance, dance to the radio. A silence that creeps into the marrow, and becomes part of the psychic profile, and what is viable is widely reviled...

Bright rays of yellow haze reflect off roof rack and strap slack as parking is already a thing of mere rumor and innuendo. A warming trend has promises of the theoretical "summer" in the air, but a chill hangs heavy at present. Currently clean, yet lean, with perfect space between, and being enjoyed by takers, bakers, and candlestick makers. As an immortal once said; "watch for the changes, and try and keep up."



CHANNEL: Many a rod and reel is on the playing field as mid level water action has anglers in silhouette currently. Outside of the mile marker, mellow sets roll in, meandering as they take their time.  Smiles cross the sun drenched faces of the peanut gallery as shadows stand as shadows can and enjoy slides of some merit. The zephyrs, oh, those pests, they plan on crashing the party come afternoon, and they will raid the buffet.                                           

                 
PATCH: So far outside as to become myth as sliders seek stoke and cruise into clear view as they dance the light fandango. Sets are on a roll of sourdough, and are being savored. The horizon, however, is showing little promise, so be wise, and check the tides...

Hazy grays alter summer daze as yet another morn the seemingly quiet village unfolds. An unsettling level of scuttlebutt surrounds all parking, as bodies turn here and there and enter and exit. The number of sliders gearing up for getting down has little justification at present, as a rare mid-tide vector has observers double checking the charts and hoping against broken hearts. Make your way and join the fray, but mind the zephyrs, as they look to crash the party and make some kind of wonderful, less so.



CHANNEL: Mixed metaphors and mixed messages at this early hour as shore break babies are the only things in motion. That has stopped seemingly no one from venturing into the chilly waters, but it appears that they seek only a spin cycle, or at least a deep rinse. Choppy and sloppy.                                                      

                 
PATCH: A baker's dozen seeks purchase and stoke from meager offerings. Delusions of grandeur seem to be the operational paradigm at present. Hard at work? Or hardly working? Exactly....

Seemingly quiet today despite the hustle to get on wetsuits and spring into the water. A lot of standstill in the water today. Surfers seem to be waiting on something to ride and are looking a bit desperate. Not even a shore break this morning. Looks to be a waiting game if your heart is promised to the sea.

Wisps of fog dissipate and yield to an emerging sun as schools end and summer bursts wide open.  Parking soon to be come just a memory as weekenders kick it live and set up camps.  A touch more NW windswell upon which to embark ones new search.  A hint of SW swell of negligible proportion seeking its way up the coast.  A wide open beach with large stretches of virgin sand and slack winds complete the picture. Are there actual waves to slide?  Haggo's claims to be open and if your mind is as well you can envision a reality in which it is so.



CHANNEL: A resolute NW windswell brings expectation and optimism to the table.  The sustenance is paltry but enough to exist on as the higher morning tide provides enough water for emerging peelers to find purchase.  Forlorn and fickle but not without takers and early birds pluck the morsels as they appear.  Best suited for logs and bigger logs with low expectations surely to be met if not exceeded.  


PATCH: Mini mighty macro movements as SW swell precursors arrive?  Ankle breakers and leaf shakers are no match for triumphant logjammers determined to cruise along.  Less movement equals more ride time as anything more will scare the waves back into seclusion or hibernation.  And remember: please don't feed the animals.

Sun lit backdrop full of bright wonder and harmony as we unfurl the day and seek solitude and slides.  Temp currently at 55F with more warmth in the near future.  Only faint and faded swell proponents upon which to work with today leaving options limited and of lesser quality.  Cars with boards strapped firmly to roof racks dispense hopefully candidates currently sauntering upon open beaches.  Incremental improvements are possible during the tidal influx though present conditions define low and slow. 



CHANNEL: A touch more than nothing as the moderate NW windswell has angle and persistence this morning.  A languishing left appears as if in a vision to gently rise up to nearly knee high before deflating upon exposed sandbars.  Periscopic pinnipeds survey the scene before diving deep in search of new playgrounds.  


PATCH: No words to define the lack of surf as less than vague S swell elements fail to reach these shores. Lookie-loos set their sights and must view the panorama through optimistic goggles.

Damp, dank and dreary is no way to go through life.  As another day of dismay descends we are forced to look inwards for strength to carry on amidst the null set.  Though only gentle breezes blow they are from the SW and bring no traces of swell activity.  Drained out tide reveals all and the staggering countenance leaves one speechless.  Wave height cannot be measured in traditional means as it falls far below the height of feet or foot.  



CHANNEL: A virtual wasteland of theoretical emptiness as factors collude to discourage all but the most determined canines.  A single tribe member surveys and sets sight on a goal only visible to those with a single-minded pursuit.  Others watch, wait, grumble then disappear into the fabric of the land to prepare for another day that may soon come.

Yet another day of haze, drizzle, and gray as new dawn fades into nothing. A roaring silence blows on gentle zephyrs as forlorn faces stare into less than zero. A lone jogger leaves footprints in damp sand, as an air of defeat hangs over the pitch. Look towards later hours, higher tides, and know that there is promise on the horizon.



CHANNEL: A dynamic emptiness as sandbars become piers that stretch on into quiet seas. A fine morn for paddle or motor, but others are left wanting...

Damp two-lane blacktop covers all points of entry to the hamlet time forgot, and current conditions are sluggish, like a wet sponge. A desperate WNW windswell seeks purchase, yet is largely denied. Only the most determined and delusional of the usual suspects are observed, but the faces of these sliders tell the real story. While one clings to a heady optimism for the sun to break through the cloud bank, hopes  for shapes of size and merit need to be tempered....



CHANNEL: Canine tennis ball chasers and battery powered RC racers are the only souls casting shadows as low waters reveal sandbar mileage. Look for possible Mali-Bo shorebreak to appear as the minutes drag, but be mindful of fin and skin, as it will be likely better H2O levels for the skim vibe and tribe.

 
PATCH:  A dynamic duo paddle hither and yon, causing larger ripples with this action than those on which they so mightily stand. Less like a moat, and more like a lake. It seems today has sealed our fate.

CHANNEL: Epic low tidal situation has daring anglers walking on water and extending sandbar vectors for what appears to be miles. Sliders are willfully and woefully absent. With good reason. Make another pot of joe, it's going to be a while...

 
PATCH:  A handful of the ancient mariners seek what meager meats and cheeses can be sampled this morning, as those warriors with large staffs having a distinct advantage. Far outside seems to hold some promise, but overall power and punch are out until lunch. Try a quiet forest walk until sea levels rise...

Where do we look for heroes, icons, pillars, humanitarians, personalities when they all seem to be passing before our eyes? Heavy hearts coupled with copious fog greets us today as inland heat drives many towards cooler climes. The density overwhelms one's vision as the pulse of the ocean beats with a yielding SW swell. Glassed out for those not passed out as the early alarm clock beats the crowd factor. A steady procession from lot to shore is endlessly repeated as news spreads fast of both the good and the sad. Put a fist in the air like you just don't care and make today memorable for any reason you can.



CHANNEL: Now as the tide pushes back to zero a noted transmutation occurs and reveals itself.  Top of the morning and bottom of the barrel with sight-lines clearing and breakers rearing.  Just at the front of the boat ramp the confusion begins as welcoming peaks entice and fold over.  A drained out Groin currently leaves little to the imagination with concrete outcroppings the dominant feature.  Conjuction Junction what's your function?



PATCH:  To the untrained eye all that is seen is the true unknown.  Layers of fog for players of logs as SW swells must eventually yield and land and dispense.  Take the unbeaten path to adventure and keep all secrets sacred and silent.

A determined fog refuses to yield, and clings to seaside cliffs with rigor and vigor. The seas churn with the jingle-jangle of a thousand lost souls. Much like the fog, the last remnants of the recently ballyhooed SSW swell are hanging in and wearing thin and are currently being used and abused, with little to no parking on the dance floor. Tis' the kind of morning on which one might pass oneself on the journey to foundation's end. Maybe guilty feet do have rhythm?



CHANNEL: A flurry of activity as mid-tide vectors bring sliders like a moth to flame. A bit of height and overall volume, but all you can hear is the silence. Marked down and ready for closeout. Stacking them deep and selling them cheap. Everybody wants to rule the world.



PATCH:  Paddle yachts and those who love them. Logs and troggs and barnacles. The timeless words whisper on the wind, as if in a daydream; "you should have been here an hour ago....". Yet even these words ring hollow and are expressed without malice, as it seems all seekers are finding lines if they can find the time. Step inside, it's coming down in sheets...

Fashioned with dense fog as we look inwards to seek clarity and compassion on this moist morning. Seasoned with some S winds to add an unwanted texture in certain venues.  A complete scarcity of parking lends credibility to the oceanic fact that a legitimate S swell is here and pulsing.  Backed with a touch of NW windswell makes today either a day to avoid the masses or join the fracas.  All means and manner of sliding transportation are on display and careless whispers are not easily remembered. 



CHANNEL: As the tide pushes forth it brings with it a fomenting fervor and a full house of participants.  From dawn to dusk shall be a steady and heady mix of the seasoned and silly as our first real consequential swell of summer settles in. Mind your directional locality and remember who gets the right of way during the nexus meetings.

A dampness that feels eternal falls upon tree boughs and sand-strewn blacktop as morning becomes electric, or eclectic, or apoplectic. As the red headed stranger so famously crooned; phases and stages are the new normal. A consistently inconsistent SSW swell has the masses frothing and jostling for position, as parking is but a long-forgotten dream, and starting  line-ups are pushed well past the level of common decency. Watch your six as you seek glory, as your shall be far from alone, yet never closer to isolation.



CHANNEL: Churning, with sandbar shorebreak and confusion. Higher waters still roll in at this early hour, let that volume recede, and let nature take it's course. Several  masses and shadows of size clearly elicit an undue excitement, as eyes are bigger than stomachs and reality never quite lives up to expectations. Oh, the sound and the fury....


PATCH: Tis that morn where one begins to inquire on the very nature of things. Perception versus reality, light versus dark. Bodies, bodies, everywhere, yet not a drop to drink. Far outside holds promise, if one is strong of shoulder and desire. Join the ranks and mind the flank, as fender-benders have already been observed, and citations issued...

Though lacking and slacking in size and shape, mere reality is stopping no one from getting suited and booted post-haste. Make your way into the fray, and remember, the park is closed. The moose out front should have told you.

Hazy, with a heavy helping of crazy, as a stubborn fog nags and sags upon on a Monday morn. A broken, but not beaten NW seeks purchase upon rock strewn shores, as all manner of watercraft go once more into the breech. Those seeking stoke and slides will likely find rides, but expect a crowd both in front and behind as the hordes gather to take yet another beachhead. Be mindful of the immediate surroundings, gaze out unto the unyielding beauty, and take a moment to reflect, and remember...


CHANNEL: As the higher waters begin to slowly recede, flurries of activity are here, there, and everywhere, and is only expected the continue as day grows long. A gentle left makes it's way towards Seadrift, and is being chased by a growing legion. One will find with the mind, and perceive with the eyes.


PATCH: Inside, outside, left and right. You, me, and everyone we know. Breaking, with middling spacing, and moderate bracing, as multiple arms flail and bail and chase each peak. Look over your shoulder, and keep your eyes on the prize, but also the future, as the charts reveal and squeal with delight.

Cool winds are being escorted from the ocean waves. Some of the brave dare to surf what was once but now does not exist. Hang in there for there will be more. Get in the water, taste that ocean floor. Bop up and down feel the ocean roar or wash up on the shore.

Congested like old arteries with all manner of recreational vehicle and toy as the holiday weekend is upon us.  Gilded with golden light from above and blessed with no current winds the wide expanses of beach may soon be valuable, occupied territory. With a draining tide and nary a meager NW windswell clinging the options are limitless and scarce all at the same time. 


CHANNEL: Bumblers, crumblers and stumblers as we battle against forces far beyond our control. A ripped and wonky surface has left an abandoned Channel while the committed and omitted have wandered over to Seadrift for attempts at slides.  Regressing rights are the option one finds with size relegated to the patella region and longboards required for entry.   


PATCH: A whispered promise of a steep S swell shows no signs of arrival and no water level reveals only spiny rocks exposed and lonely.  No activity brewing save for the 6 fishermen divining dinner from shore-bound casts like in halcyon days of old.  Find not sorrow or bitterness as good days soon come.

An early sun crests misty mountaintops to shed light on a harsh reality.  Empty racks and Scooby snacks might lend credence to watery activities but tide and swell are currently conspiring against such play.  Temps have dropped along with spirits as those premature holiday arrivals seek that which is not in the offering.  Only a lackluster NW windswell remains to generate the propulsive means upon shallow waters and this my friends leaves little to the imagination.  Yet the day does retain many beautiful aspects and has the capacity for greatness.


CHANNEL: See the lone pelican bob and weave as he hunts a morning meal.  He is gangly yet graceful as he surveys the sea and swoops along.  See the two sliders attempting rides upon wind-generated rights with a tidal rip running through.  Not nearly as appealing as the aforementioned bird.
