Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Ripping from your grip all those toys in the world / That bring you no joy. / Love sometimes gets tired of speaking sweetly / And wants to rip to shreds / All your erroneous notions of truth." - Hafiz

The pink luminescent fog drifts from the ocean, caressing the tree tops to tell us they are leaving the sky behind for a bit; meanwhile, the sun shines through the canopy, illuminating the undergrowth so rarely nourished during these spring mornings. It is a beginning that brings serenity to our hearts, tranquil smiles radiating from our souls and light into every action and interaction. Out in this coastal town, the kayaks are out, the few surfers come and go relishing in the glossy morning; the tide may be out but on this kind of day it matters not. There are words adrift of NW winds pushing through but for now it seems our Bo-natural cover is keeping it at bay. As for a swell, a mid-period WNW swell shall come through at it's maximum this time around, giving us contentment for a spring day.

CHANNEL:  Short rides and solitude. A time to reflect, realign and rejoice. Forget not, as we are one with this Earth and this Ocean - take a moment to remember that the percentage of water in our body is still less than that of the ultimate Mother and just as we use our water supplies and replenish, so must she. Patience.

PATCH:  Relish in the unknown. This morning finds our water drained and the waves away. There seems to be a lull here as the week reaches its middle but never forget to scan the shadows and read the energy for as tides come in some may miss what exists.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"If you went back and fixed all the mistakes you've made, you erase yourself." - Louis C.K.

The sun on our faces, the salty breeze lingering in the air and the fragmented water surfaces cause us mere high fly, human animals to take a deep breathe snap a picture or two do a jiggle and a stretch and converse with ourselves. The water is out and will continue to push away, in a retreat asking us to come no farther for fear that we will hurt her even more than we have; but nevertheless, she shall return as the naive lover she appears to be. Forget not, she is keeping tabs and one day will come back to bite as promised. For now, our mother will pack us a lunch box full of current wind, WNW arriving windswell, sunshine and uneven water but as the ultimate magician, she might just decide to switch it up as the day continues.

CHANNEL:  A spectacle to see here. Our dearest friend shows off the way she works through eye-appeasing tidal movement and current fluxes. She's in the mood to show off this morning for the early risers, but it is a look only - do not touch - morning as she provides no love for those who dabble on her surfaces for now....all reason is true, falsehood does not exist in her dictionary.

PATCH:  The younger sisters of the Devil's Teeth (those massive rock faces only 20 miles away) reside here this morning - a slight history lesson of the Bay Area may do one well. Challenge, learn, transcend. Become one. The scales are shown today and small breaks onto open face scars continue to scale back as the morning continues. Depending on your flexibility, this is never a sight for sore eyes and ocean therapy awaits - some are just better sessions than others....but as long as you show respect and understand it as a gift you will never walk away with nothing.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Mighty things from small beginnings grow." - John Dryden

As we greet the new week we must contend and remain content with what the morning offers.  The day above is full of clarity and blue beauty while below the waters recede and degenerate before our eyes.  Another cycle of negative morning tides has early risers dismayed by the displays.  With only a stout NW windswell as our primary pump and a reduced playing field, the opportunities are limited but not without merit.

CHANNEL:  Again one must drift and shift their sight and self in order to find the nourishment to exist.  Seeking the deeper waters within the Channel and along the Seadrift corridor will yield some of what you are looking for, but not all.  The tide return will not resolve itself until early afternoon so get what you can when you can.  Please sir, I want some more.

PATCH:  Still draining but maintaining a flatter countenance than one would hope for.  Burnished bronze by the sun above and silky smooth with no winds.  Canoes, kayaks, SUPs and swimmers are more than welcome to partake.  With no S swell in the pot loggers are left wanting.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Most mothers are instinctive philosophers." - Harriet Beecher Stowe

Flaccid, placid and sedate morning.  A golden calm in the early hours as the winds do NOT blow and the sun shines brightly.  Chilled out waters down to 49F and air even below at 44.  Bundle up and imbibe warm beverages as you perform your ritual surf check and conjure energy to don the damp suit.  Honor your mother and polish your crystals.  Give thanks and praise for all you have and all your are now and will become.  Petition for swell as what we have currently does not make the heart race but palpitate gently.  Incoming tide should provide the delivery you are expecting.

CHANNEL:  Ignore for the moment and focus your gaze along the coast towards Seadrift to find salvation.  Sustenance exists but in meager portions and must but sought and fought for under current tidal decreases.  The extra effort is always worth it and is required in certain situations.  Thigh high breakers are available if you are willing to explore.

PATCH:  Leveled off and washed in golden sun.  Semi-occasionally interrupted by random rollers wandering aimlessly along in search of a landing port.  Knee high like a broken record.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You have to try the impossible to achieve the possible." - Hermann Hesse

Moon vibes as the early tribe cracks the day open and tries to beat the tidal drain.  Unfortunately Mother Ocean wins the initial round as bottom contours become readily visible and expose all the deep sea secrets.  Options are limited and limitless all at the same time and in the present moment.  A jumbled alignment not so easy on the eyes.  For now the day does begin bright and beautiful if you look skywards and temps are in at 50F.  What swells that may play a part in the surfing fantasy of today will only make themselves visible later during the tide push back.

CHANNEL:  Marshmallow puff with no extra fluff as mini spinners in the shallows swirl and curl around the fisherman's legs. Rippy and trippy as the tide siphons negatively and beyond.  We know the bars exist and are set.  There is a mild NW swell lurking.  Now we just need some water which may require a noon-time recheck and calibration.

PATCH:  Motivation
It comes and goes
But the questions
They stay alive

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master." - Ernest Hemingway

The sun shines brightly and with full intention to remain present.  Another tranquil morning where being early to hit the surf gives no benefit.  Minus tides deplete the rides as missing water is a key component on most days.  Grab your mug and climb above to survey the coast and gain insight and wisdom.  As with all great comebacks there is a happy ending and the tide return may just be yours today.  No winds and 49F feels like a winning combination.

CHANNEL:  Micro grinders all along the inside Groin sandbar is a mind-surfers dream as the wave is hollow and holding form.  Unfortunately the height remains locked in at ankle high and water depth not much more.  A mid period NW windswell is in the offering under better suited tides.  Sitting in the Channel will allow for the occasional spirited breaker to find you along with shallow drawing boats that may come and go.  Try Wait.

PATCH:  Less tide and even more slag exposed as we hit dead low.  Bathed in sunshine it finds paddlers on the prowl with flat-water cruising their ultimate reward.  An afternoon re-check under better water levels will be in order if you have all the free time in the world.  A very small S swell remnant is all you have to look forwards to.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The cure for anything is saltwater: sweat, tears or the sea." - Isak Dinesen

Wisps of mist and dampened sensations to start the morning.  Easing back as the overcast skies move high above and levitate. Sunshine and sweet serenity surely are on the way. Diminished water levels not leveling off the stoke as the chosen few find purpose in the sea.  NW windswell plays a part in the apparitions while the tiniest of S swell sparks interest in other regions.  Winds are a non-factor yet a slight texture remains.  More water will be the cure as we all know and should abide by.

CHANNEL:  Allow the drift and shift to occur and find yourself across the Channel and rapidly into Seadrift.  Deeper pockets in the sand allow for less to be more and the opportunistic slider may well luck into a right minded skid.  As the tide fills back it will allow for Groin bar explorations but for now not.

PATCH:  A wide triangular swath of exposed rocks does not typically make for inviting surf opportunities.  Those in the water may not by your typical patron as they journey far out past uncovered stone in search of an elusive solution.  What may transpire in the later hours is an unknown commodity at this time.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Speak only if it improves upon the silence." - Mahatma Gandhi

Mellow Wednesdays here: snug coastal clouds, morning dew hanging, uneven water surfaces and humdrum weather forecasting. A shift in the weather, turning down low, preserving itself for what is yet to come into creation. We are reading shadows out here, feeling the energy and moving into dormancy; just like the human body following an endorphin high, the ultimate mother seems to have dissipated much of her good remedies on a single binge and is now finding herself in need of a resupply. Our middle sibling WNW swell creates a proposition to come and go and her sister carries in a stronger force of air from the WSW. The kids are out to play today, but this is not your typical family.

CHANNEL:  Slosh and posh. A blockage of the organs. A confusion of where we are. There are some shadows but it is up to your eyes to decipher what is what and who is who; meager yet always surprising. Join the jolly of urban models and yay-sayers this morning for ocean therapy is better than most all.

PATCH:  Not what it was nor what is could be but ever present and moving forward as we all are. The beginning of a formation of classic, half-pint patch rollers as the tide stretches its neck and embraces the upper shores once more; the chopped liver might be slow to digest however. All in the eye of the beholder and what is due for some others seem to drift off.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Reality is far stranger than anything else." - Timothy Stevens

I am awakened today by green - green hills, green hair, green cars - which, in turn, accentuates the stark blue sky and the effervescent ocean water...it is a day to dwell in not what is present but rather what may be and what our minds eye provides. I and we are warm both inside and out, leaving us with a secret of good hope for today; the onshore wind stirs the pot however, and the bleak NW windswell continues to leave us as does the diminished S swell. The smell of new beginnings are in the air, so let us not think of what has been but rather what might just tap us on the shoulder, say hello and bring a smile to our face.

CHANNEL:  The heart of the sun lies here this morning, bestowing our mere mortal human faces with beauty and warmth to last a lifetime. It's a dog galore out here, so mind the puppers as you join the lone traveler in the longest-of-longboarding sessions. May our mind wander but not to far for we never know what she has in store.

PATCH:  Here, far, wherever they are - the painter of the ultimate mother finally gets some alone time at last. Rollers to the ground, teeth only recently sharpened and a stir of the pot is what we see here today. May we holdeth our breath only yet for the water was out and we are waiting up to make sure she gets home...lettuce eat healthy, breathe the salt air and lick our chops at the unknown.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty." - John Ruskin

Some chills and only a few thrills with temps dipping to 49F and moderating SW winds.  Our previous week of winds has a large NW windswell roaming about as the steep S depletes its energy.  Sun-drenched skies should give rise to good tidings and eventual warmth.  For now those hitting the water are consoling themselves as what they are offered today does not compare to what was consumed last week.  Either way, the day and week can always start on a positive note if your outlook trends upwards.

CHANNEL:  Splish and splash but not in a mad dash as the tatters are torn in the lower tide conditions.  Unexceptional computations though bathed in sunlight as an aspect of beauty.  One can hope for less wind and more tide to flip the switch and smooth things out.  Protected Mali-Bo inside rights may be the best bet today at thigh high.

PATCH:  Having to recalculate due to tide switch and swell drop.  Outsiders fail to flop and insiders are lacking water.  Middles are no man's land currently except as a way station to your next destination.  Recalculating.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Hope is independent of the apparatus of logic." -Norman Cousins

Today is the day, and yes it is bright. The wind and cold from yesterday have seemed to calm down as the temperature is already at a lovely 59* Funky 2016 has passed, so, boards will be broken, borders changed, and lumps of coal handed out and accepted graciously. From the realest of idealist to the massive passive, there's a little something for everyone out there today and everyone is already on it.

CHANNEL:  Ups, downs and all around mediocrity. Looking glassy with mixed swell and mixed feelings. 10 man crew already rendering me speechless as none of the best waves are chosen. Incoming tide enhancing our situation and the time is nine... or will be nine soon. Weave around a few buoy-ish humans and you may find a little private waist high cranker for crankums.

PATCH:  Mini movers all the way outside and all the way inside. Not necessarily connecting through at any point there are plenty of attempts from plenty of people. Enjoy a little mini wall that doesn't cost 14 billion to build. Ankle to knee + depending on your height.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts." - Henry David Thoreau

Upwelling occurs when winds push surface water away from the shore and deeper water rises to fill the gap.  The upward movement of this deep, colder water is termed upwelling.  This nutrient-rich upwelled water stimulates the growth and reproduction of primary producers such as phytoplankton.    Measured ocean temps are now down for 49F after a period of windy days and booties may be part of your morning considerations.  We are currently relatively calm with light NE winds and outside temp of 50F.  Patchy skies and high tides merging with swell remainders has the parking thinning while the lineups thicken.

CHANNEL:  Motion in the ocean about to cause a weekend commotion.  Incoming tide and the extra push it delivers has smoothness in sight and slip slides on one's mind.  Start it left and bend it right will lead to the longest route to grandma's house this morning.  After the peak the drain begins and should enhance shape and attract even more to the shore.  Currently waist high consistency and an advancing cluster paddling over.

PATCH:  Less height but still a long period of interval on the last of the SW swell.  If you can bear the cold toes you should know that the waves come in bunches after a fair period of waiting and contemplation.  Sweet and sassy on the inside speed run and water levels well above the minimum requirements.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The journey is a person in itself; no two are alike." - John Steinbeck

New sensations with old vibrations as solid swells fill in and gain traction.  Wind sheltered and potential to swelter with early temps cracking 56F and full sun above.  Full morning tides not easing back until the early afternoon.  Smoothness and ripples along your visual corridor and the only choice you need to make is where to slide.

CHANNEL:  Lefts reeling off and peeling along with a right minded bend off into the Mali-BoBo nether-lands as the tide pushes in.  As the tide retreats we should see even better shape with some inside pool pockets offered up for those fishing along.   Size is waist high nearly up to chest on the deeper sets.  Peaking high tide almost swamping it out but worth a look or hard stare for sure.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Haloed in fog we peer through the mist in search of friendly profiles both in and out of the water.  Early expectations run high but present delivery running a bit low.  Budding swells on the near horizon have us ripe with anticipation.  Winds tamped down and heat level diminished yet we start at 52F and should eventually see plenty of sun.  Pull out the bigger log and tune in to the new frequency.

CHANNEL:  Negligible rumblings as the NW swell has not quite filled out its application in entirety.  Early high tide maybe just a tad too much water and now starting to drain and swirl.  Vaporous morning has surfaces burnished smooth and rollers, when they do arrive seek the waist yet fall short.

PATCH:  The desired destination for many toting logs as the morning tides envelops all.  Shrouded and misty just adds to the mystery and intrigue posed by old faces in old places.  Not quite feeling the SW vibrations and the morning window may soon close as the tide retreats.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"All great achievements require time." - Maya Angelou

We begin where we ended with vibrantly clear skies and temps on the bake.  We suffer no winds and release all anxiety with calming walks on the beach.  All swells that come must eventually go and that is our situation currently.  We envision a new pulse in the near future but it is always better to remain in the moment and focus on the known.  For now the last drips trickle in and offer enough stoke to get any day started on the right foot.

CHANNEL:  With low tide pushed back to the lunch hour the early risers are in luck.  A reformulated sandbar is still finding its legs as it learns how to properly direct wave energy.  Periodically the stars align and waist high lefts appear and roll.  Enough water to stimulate some Mali-Bo exceptions and Seadrift is only a moderate paddle away.  Stay thirsty my friends.

PATCH:  Draining tide doing no favors and putting the texture here and there.  Those benefiting seem to be the SUP brigade and butt-ski tribe as the extra paddling propulsion seems helpful.  Still a few S swell gravitational stragglers to entice any Log Jammer.  Mind the rocks which will be rapidly exposing as the morning develops.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending." - C. S. Lewis

Golden silence up above as one can gaze down and take it all in.  There is so much beauty that surrounds and in the daily hustle much gets overlooked.  Stop, close your eyes, open your ears, open your heart, soak in the serenity.  Today begins a warming trend with 57F and clear skies.  Light SE winds and dropping tides already causing ripples and rips.  Still have the moderate NW windswell for Channel enthusiasts and a decent but steep angle S for the Patch purist in all of us.  Lessening water levels means we should all prepare to get small.

CHANNEL:  Highly populated today with an amorphous crew bobbing and weaving for position.  Draining tide starting to put some unwanted texture on the surface and soon sandbars will be exposed which is not particularly good for surfing.  Afternoon glass off sessions might well be in order.

PATCH:  The S swell does remain but the angle is a bit vertical to fully impact the situation.  The lone logger may well find inside peepers rolling off with regularity but not size.  Thigh high right handers with no others to share with may seem selfish but I haven't heard anyone complaining so far.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Creativity is intelligence having fun." - Albert Einstein

We embark on a brave and bold new adventure and take our levels up one notch.  As the calendar page turns changes become revealed and like a caterpillar emerging from its chrysalis we seek a metamorphosis.  A clear visage is upon us as the day starts pure and warm.  Early, early risers will benefit from higher tides and better slides.  Though the predominant wave generation comes from a NW windswell there does remain a steep S swell creeping in and peeping the scene.

CHANNEL:  Getting too low and nearing a no go as the later morning tide drops below sea level.  A body whomping exercise may be in the offering for those needing to strengthen legs and overall constitution.

PATCH:  With a steeper angle S swell in play there is truly some resolution and apparitions.  Long and languishing rides are in the offering though size remains contained just below waist high.  Dropping tide will soon shut the door until the afternoon return. I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"With the coming spring, I am calm again." - Gustav Mahler

Crystal powers coming in at full force this morning. Bright morning light shines down and the heat is rising. The beach expands to the middle of the sea and the tide is bottoming out. Full islands exposed and good for party goers- not surfers. Bring your sunscreen and your favorite hat. As for the water, tide to fill in by 4pm so Try Wait.

CHANNEL:  Sand bar exposed and sloppy slosh occurring.

PATCH:  Some try and some succeed. Dodge and hop around totems and be aware of what is beneath. Knee high at best for now, but will improve as the day moves forward.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Every individual matters.  Every individual has a role to play.  Every individual makes a difference." - Jane Goodall

A variation on a recent theme with blazing sunshine beaming down and temps starting to rise.  Negatively low low tides negatively effecting the seek for stoke and confining efforts to those spots containing deeper or any water.  Mid period NW swell co-mingles with a background S but water levels are lacking early and therefore require a waiting period to resolve.  Currently 54F with light and variable winds.  Glassy ocean and plenty of sand to romp and roam with a pup.  A day full of promise and possibility unlimited.

CHANNEL:  At this time and tide the answer is no.  Later in the day quite possibly maybe.  Last night a definitive yes.

PATCH:  The meeting rock stands tall as a spire and takeoff marker for the dedicated throng.  Ambitious settlers angling for knee high rights or calf high lefts at the deepest reaches of the Patch.  Intermittent S swell pulses push the breakers a notch about the patella.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Until you value yourself, you won't value your time.  Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it." - M. Scott Peck

Beach combers and treasure seekers unite as your tide book shows a climatically low tide for your pleasure.  The game is afoot but only if what you seek lies at the bottom of the now exposed ocean floor.  Two days in a row of perfectly sunny conditions and light ESE winds to spice things up.  I feel heat coming and it starts this morning at 57F.  Still have a hunky NW swell out to sea but water levels are currently below lacking and one must languish until later.

CHANNEL:
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
this ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey,
I ain't got time for that now

PATCH:  Save for a dynamic duo this space is un-engulfed and devoid of energetic surf.  Large triangular rock ridge protrudes and extends well into the lineup.  A murmur of S swell is out there but unable to show in current conditions. Don't call it a comeback but waiting until the late morning tide arrival is highly recommended.
