Daily Surf Report - 9/11/2017

Overnight gusts have now quieted though some textured ocean remains.  Possibly some reverse osmosis occurring as well and now winds have shifted lightly NE.  NW swells of two varieties can be found while S pulses are fewer and farther between if existent at all.  Water temps a reported 61F and air checks in at 66F.  Clearing skies giving way to sun and wide open parking shows what a difference a day makes.  All the opportunity in the world is at your feet depending on what risks you are willing to take. 

CHANNEL:  Uninviting currently as tide bottoms and winds calm.  Funky composition and a bit seasick.  A keen eye can spot a zone of integrity but it is mingled and mangled among wind-borne partitions.  Allow time to heal then re-examine on the fresh incoming tide.

PATCH:  I hope it haunts me til I'm hopeless.  I hope it hits you when you go.  And sometimes on the edge of sleeping it rises up to let me know it's not so deep.  I'm not so slow.

Be still if you can.  Be quiet and observe.  Soak in the sweet morning calm and serenity as you wonder in all the nature around you.  Fly under the radar.  Take the road less traveled.  End up at your destination - eventually.  Buoys say NW windswell has peaked.  Foggy visuals say otherwise as angle possibly too steep to encroach upon our shores.  SW swell expands period and contracts height and therefore giveth less.  Bugs and bats, fog pockets and mist, sneaky sunshine make up the rest of our observations and explorations.  Temp of 59F and lightest of S winds. 

CHANNEL:  NW exists yet feels the need to actualize elsewhere.  Showing some activity on the deeper Channel bar with lefts that crumble along seeking thigh high dimensions.  Seadrift shrouded in fog and un-observable but possibly worth a look see.  Low tide is up so water levels adequate for action all day.  Afternoon high may limit beach access but that never seems to stop anyone from trying to pass the wall. 

PATCH:  SW swell dribbles in with current low flow and little show.  Toe stubbers and ankle rubbers still available to those seeking the lesser crowd.  Makeshift movements still with the capacity to promote smiles.

Sweet summer in Cali with weather changing like a schizophrenic.  We will initially start with overcast, fog, mist and moisture as we survey the scene and determine the worthy participants.  Where we all end up is mostly left to chance so go with the flow and always practice proper etiquette.  A burgeoning NW windswell waiting on a bit more water and gently hampered by light onshore flow now easing back.  Dwindled S swell still has enough left for micro glides if that suits you better. 61F currently and anticipating later day sunshine as has been the norm. 

CHANNEL: New NW swell looking to strike and drawing the crowds in the early hours.  A bit on the low level of tide swing has most clustered and cloistered with narrow zones in which to operate.  Lightly textured by morning weather and now starting to clean.  Afternoon conditions clearly subject to change. 

PATCH:  Knee rides for days.  Slow slides on low tides.  High tide push may be last gasp for this swell to pulse.  Make sure you have a great day.

Little grey fox tell me your secrets.  Little grey fox show me the way.  Highly overcast though calm and tepid already at 61F.  A new brew for the early crew though lack of water providing a measure of inhibition.  Reformulated NW windswell grows while SW regresses.  Both, like Jah, will deliver under varying circumstances.

CHANNEL: Low tide vibes producing moderately meaningful rides.  Curbed enthusiasm may lead to joy when the waters refill and hold steady.  For now make due with glassed surfaces and occasional warbles that bend, fold and fray away and know the end is just the beginning. 

PATCH:  Marginal markers in the making but the traverse is long and requires much patience.  Shapes and shadows merge and divide and the slides delivered are more lean than long.  More water may be the missing additive but in the end what does it all mean?

We have entered another season for the time being. Cloud coverage and on-shore winds provide the crumble of washing machine's at full tilt and "coooler" temperatures stick to this ocean sided town. All is relative, for what you know and feel is but a lack of knowledge and experience of another. No great shakes are at stake, but there is nothing fake about this entity.

CHANNEL: What seems to be back to basics has come with a twist, for this previous turbulence of waves that pushed through the weekend has excavated a shift underfoot, relocating the offshore bar. New positions, and low tides give the couple bodies out there a standing start. Once more, the median will build one and thus the other.

PATCH:  Way out yonder the is a glimpse of a shadow, lasting five fingers, only to dissipate as the strength of its kinetic energy depletes. Always in motion and moving in a visual way of breath, the opaque water adds to the colors of dreams. More to the imagination than any physical activity.

There is no such things as coincidences, but rather a pattern of synchronicity becoming seemingly more frequent as our lives align. Congruent to this time of anxiousness in numerous aspects of our everyday lives, the water moves ruggedly, the power is not extreme but rather effortless in its appearance of turmoil. Furthermore, it shall come as everything far from shocking that the coast is, once more, blanketed in mist, humid, and seen as an entity separate from all else inland. Hit it at its median and opportunities will present themselves.

CHANNEL: Morning hours provide beach breaks at toe heights. The pleasantries here stick to the sound of the ocean and the tranquility given by the complete lack of human bodies. When we are near water our minds revert to a mildly meditative state - take advantage. On-shore now, in the water later.

PATCH:  As realism sets in, most turn to shore while others wait for a rise in anticipation that a greater quantity of one will lead to a stronger force of another. Patterns deepen from yesterday as depletion sees a break and a quick slump of energy - enough to have hope.

Desolate, depleted and desecrated remains are yours today.  Mass exodus of both humanity and heat brings things back to "normal" in this hamlet by the sea.  Humidity remains high and temps start at 69F.  Light SW winds waft salty breezes.  Ocean waters have re-warmed and wetsuit options are being carefully considered.  Traces from all operational swells are winding down but the windows of opportunity have not yet closed. 

CHANNEL: Again we find uninhabited breakers in the early light that are being watched by fishermen and ridden by none.  Helpful left leaning lurchers seem destined for mid-length madness as they just roll by and evaporate in the shallows.  A few hours remain until the the tide peaks and does not allow for access. 

PATCH:  A steepened S swell now on the decay may still offer but not in the quantity or quality of yesterday.  Tide filling in has some of the wrinkles smoothed out and 2 sliders are in for participation awards.  These shallow waters are running extremely warm but have less irie vibrations this morning.

Back to basics as a light marine layer coats and cools the coast bringing early temps down to a moderate 61F.  Less than subtle breezes on the back of a moist neck are the simple pleasures to savor.  Sunshine has appeared and it will soon be warm but not likely scorching.  Festivities planned and already underway as many are maximizing the 3 day weekend to its full extent.  A lasting NW swell is again on display as tides resume their regular swings.  A formulating SW swell has both shown itself then disappeared and may be more reclusive on the lower tides.  A little bit of everything in moderation today please. 

CHANNEL: Early morning low tide pushing forth with some effort.  NW windswell with non-impressive numbers may have just found a better angle to resume rocking rollers.  Thigh high tubular temptations with light momentum levels.  Higher tide may shut it down only to have it recommence upon the outgoing. 

PATCH:  Sometimes you really don't, really don't, really don't know what I mean.  Sometimes you really don't, really don't, really don't know what I need.  Ohhh it's all in my mind.

A Waxing Gibbous Moon lights the way as stragglers and strays find their way to the coast.  A frenzy of activity as the boat ramp backs up with personal fishing vessels and surfers as well.  While ocean temp has dropped a degree or two over the week outside airs remain scorching and still.  Relief is where you can find it and many are seeking it here in the ocean.  Southern hemi energy looks to provide a source of slides while the NW wind borne breakers remain active though haggard.  Tides continue to reside on the high which contains both positives and negatives depending on your outlook. 

CHANNEL: A textured tempest with non-coordinated particles pursuing better alignment.  Coming up from the early low tide and starting to smooth out the wrinkles.  Mr. Man in the shroud van knows when to pounce and can let you know too - whether you are interested or not.

PATCH:  DAVE would go.  Knee to thigh high crumblers + your big log are a match made in heaven.

Daily Surf Report - 9/2/2017

Fox trots and seals swim in an early calm soon to be shattered.  A still coolness to be relished in the moment with temps standing at 68F and no winds.  A last hurrah of summer starts now with cars streaming in and creative parking in the works.  NW swell eases back yet still seeks an existence on the higher tides.  Steeper S has wilted in the heat and provides less nourishment but more serenity in the flaccid waters.  Ocean is warm and wetsuits seem optional.  Daytime tides are high and higher so look twice before you leap and act with some form of determination. 

CHANNEL: Lazy lefts in the early light are at once empty and then congested.  Dawn patrollers making a slow start but now here en masse +.  Knee high petite ramps that are best tackled on longboards have some growth capacity with the pushing tides.  Expect crowds and then some but realize the ocean is free and welcoming to all.  

PATCH:  Brad, Larry and all Logjammers will post up for the day and find the furtive rights that eventually will appear.  Less swell and offset angles make the Patch more of a destination for socialization than recreation today.

A blast of sunshine hits the beach at just about full force. A little moisture in the air is all that separates us from the heat of the day to come. It is currently 66F, but it won't stop there. This place should be no escape from today's extreme weather, as temperatures blaze around the state today. As for the water, dunk your head as a cool refreshment, for it will be your only hope. Beach access is limited due to tidal conditions so plan ahead and prepare to get wet. Surf is working and having some fun, so you should too.

CHANNEL: Lefty loosey breaking fun and well. Knee high and working off of the sand bar. Micro mini rights also available at a smaller scale. Something for everyone but capacity filling up quickly. Do or don't, yes or no, choose one, and choose now.

PATCH:  People sit. People wait. They are probably asking the same question as me. Why?

Steady vibes and a ready tribe as the coconut wireless spreads the good gospel.  Under a layer of morning fog one can see and feel the sun's heat start the rapid dissolving process.  Favorable NW windswell sparking interest + excitement while initial lower tide levels keep the good curls coming.  55F and warming with an inland heat burst expected.  Non-windy conditions have it glassed off and gassed out.  They early bird / pre-work crew has already scored it. 

CHANNEL: No such thing as a low tide today during daylight hours so the coming and going will be at your own risk and peril.  The enticement is righteous and plentiful with a growing number of sliders participating.  Smooth faces and off to the races with deep bar, mid bar and inner bar lefts and rights that bend and twist to your desires.  Find a favored sled and give it a ride.

PATCH:  Nothing.  Though at times one may sense an offshoot from the steep S, it rarely materializes and has kept this area temporarily desolate.

Energy renewal program in effect and new found life is bestowed.  All necessary elements come together to be reformulated into oceanic flow.  Forces from the NW winds and severely steep angled S seem to have coalesced and contrived to deliver surf.  Still and overcast with not a trace of wind.  Temp of 56F and likely later sun.  Tides again run mid high and hold fast.  Do what you love if it makes you happy. 

CHANNEL: Breaching breakers on the outside Channel bar tumble regularly with a smoothness not seen in recent days.  A small contingent of early morning participants rolled the dice and came up 7-11.  Waist high or better washers with right or left ride potential are good for promoting smiles and happy high fives.  If your schedule allows, it is worth a dip. 

PATCH: The steep S swell has enough offshoots to penetrate and the higher tide allows a more suitable entry.  Still remaining on the smaller side but finally encumbered with some log rollers worth a paddle.  Welcoming to all and luxurious at times.

Calm and overcast with lingering scent of lilac in the air.  Undeniable tide on the rise and staying moderately high throughout the day. No real swings means what you see is what you're likely going to get.  Our customary NW windswell remains along with a very steep but emerging S swell which just may miss and pass on by without visiting.  Temp is 57F and winds are lightly SW causing a bit of texture but no harm.  Long stares off into the distance prompt reflexive actions and some boards are being carried to the water's edge and advancing. 

CHANNEL: Tide to the wall and then some but lack of significant swell keeps the crossing uneventful.  A quick dip and sprint paddle lands you back on the sand for further surveying.  The farther reaches into the Seadrift compound seem to have the most energetic responses so far.  Otherwise you will need to suffice with knee high bumps going both left and right. 

PATCH: Still prostrate and unworthy.  Periodic punctures of potential are cause for consideration but very few and far between.

The air is still and the temperature is slowly rising. Although all places surrounding are experiencing sunshine, we still must wait our turn for the fog to burn off. It is 61F and rising, so our hopes are high for a sunny day, but what can I say, we still live in the bay. Say hello to those you see, and only wish good upon them. Give thanks for another day, and spend it doing what you love.

CHANNEL: Outgoing tide that stays positive is having good results. Knee high jammers jam packed with water lovers and land lubbers. Seek and conquer waves of your choice. Go left for maximum ability and agility.

Silent, serene and decidedly not mean.  A slowing down of terrestrial and aquatic movements keep all but the devoted and deranged on land.  Those with a keen eye and optimistic outlook may well spot an angle of intersection with a wave corner vision.   Look hard or not at all but know that swells are dwindling and therefore pickings are slim.  Overcast but not fogged in.  Early morning sunshine already on the rise.  No winds - thankfully, and early temp back up to 56F.  Tidal movements favorable for any swell that happens to stop by. 

CHANNEL:  High tide now running to low but not so low you cannot go.  Middling water levels and morose movements at sea give this area less to work with and more to anticipate.  Still a solid sandbar soaking up stray advancements and turning them into knee + wavelets.  No wind keeps the surface smooth and morning access is easy. 

PATCH: Flat.  The unbroken calm is not stopping a lone surfer from enjoying a nice long paddle / sit / wait.  If this is the Sunday engagement you were looking for - your day is made.

Deep hidden secrets to be unlocked as a heavy layer descends and fills all voids.  A slight dip in temp to 53F signals the start of a seasonal change though sun will soon burn it away.  All quiet on the western edge of civilization as gazes are met and reflected back in the morning mists.  The lightest of air flows are a cause for clean conditions and we are backed by mainly NW windswell of moderate levels.  Traces from the SW are small and irregular but enough to stir interest upon rising tides. 

CHANNEL:  The low tide has risen and allows for breakers to breach if they so desire.  Low intensity windswell is maligned for its offerings but plays a role in how the day unfolds.  Smooth and placid waters that invite all to enter. 

PATCH: Unseen and therefore unknown as heavy fog coats the coast.  The slightest of energies from the SW may distribute fundamental qualities enough to get a big log moving.  Coconut wireless reports will be our mode of communication throughout today.

A quiet morning is under way here as the sun is kept out and the heavy fog sits overhead. The weather is moist and 56F. No heat radiating in as we had hoped but later hours may reveal sunshine. As for the water, no swell is seen as of now and low has yet to hit. Afternoon high seems doable with semi even lows on either side. Keep an eye out and keeps your crystals near.

CHANNEL:  Low has nothing available for us this morning. Nobody bothers and nobody wanders. Empty and choppy as the sandbar is the only thing existing here.

PATCH: Lake Bolinas is in effect here. No more than a ripple exists and is of course, no rides are available. Good for sitting and watching. Bad for surfing.  May peace be with you.

A seemingly endless parade of low tide mornings elicits a scarcity of waves and by association people as well.  Kept quiet by lack of activity a peaceful calm surrounds and protects.  A rising NW windswell gives hope for the later hours when tides fill to suitable levels.  Hints of a new SW groundswell may be just rumor or innuendo.  Coastal clouds already giving way to sunshine and light NE winds with temps of 57F.  It's a wide open playing field and all of it can be yours. 

CHANNEL:  Knee slappers combo with shore clappers under diminished tides.  Fishermen share the lineup with SUPs and sleds as a delicate dance unfolds.  Even under the depleted domain one can see the sandbars aligned and primed for the day beloved swell returns.  Stay ready friends.

PATCH: A motionless quietude filled with inactivity and peace.  An unending lull unbroken by any undulations.  A calm you can appreciate but wish would dissolve.  A void unfulfilled.  Transformational under better circumstances.

Cloudy skies keep most at bay but serenity is upon us in forms of coastal cover, stillness, and the break of kinetic energy through our favorite medium. Few bodies dwindle here and there this morning as most prophesied the diminished swells and overhangs in this early hours. With later times, chances to ride will rise but knee height is where we will stay. Cozy, calm, and comfortable. Today is a day. Go grab it.

CHANNEL:  Two standers gain balance and experience in the basics, while beach breaks stay at shin height. Low waters leave this area good for everything but a surf. With higher levels, curlers will come but only the remnants of what once was.

PATCH: A stillness so tranquil you want for nothing else but what is. A shallow pond, energies underneath are not even enough to break onto rock, but rather it graces the shore with a touch - an embrace - before it retreats back into what is known. Higher levels will bring better opportunity. And so, back to the classic patch we go.
