Daily Surf Report - 7/21/2016

Low tide vectors and exposed beach hecklers as consecutive days of sunlight greet us.  Forlorn but not forgotten with willing participants making valiant attempts to locate watery warbles while avoiding bare sands.  Swells upon seas from both the NW and SW contrive to deliver but current water levels are sub-optimal and sub-sea level.  



CHANNEL: Heady attendance with questionable outcomes during negative tide cycles.  More sand than surf not a deterrent to the determined as mindful lefts are possible though not probable under these conditions.  A tide filling lay period will greatly improve moods and conditions so Try Wait is to be used judiciously today.   



PATCH: A voyage beyond all rocks will still leave you yearning for more.  Thought SW swells are in play the water volume has been shut off and drained out.  The longest of long logs may journey forth but the rewards will start meager and minor.  The habitat is ripe for enrichment today but not likely until the lunchtime whistle.

Serenity is NOW as a full quiet falls over a slumbering village.  Sunlight breaks the hilltops and casts long shadows. A slight reveal shows early morning aspirants as they attempt to mine stoke upon low tide landscapes.   Minor lines do show as they are brought forth by NW windswell and SW pulses.  More water will be a welcome addition and asset in order to make today a true Summer of George.



CHANNEL: Currently unoccupied although snippets of lefts do appear and seem to have capacity to entice.  Much exposed sand awaits as tides reach negative levels.  A happy medium may be found today if you know the ingredients to the special blend.  



PATCH: A long venture awaits as current no tides push the breakers out well past all manner of rock and stone.  All paddlers center their chakras and align themselves for destinations unknown.  Rumbles and ripples can be seen and felt but access will not come easy today.  Shoulder burning entries will get you thigh high rides.

A little dew rests on the morning leaves and glistens as the sun breaks through the grey blanket draped over our little town. Barely a mouse stirs and all is serene. Slight korduroy rolls along the horizon and brings hope for the rest of the day. 


CHANNEL: Not a soul to be found as the tide is low and the sandbars are exposed. Best to wait for the incoming tide. 

PATCH: Past the meeting rock, the real meeting is happening as three executive logjammers share their insider secrets. Knee to waist, but beware of the rocks below till later today!

Mystical is the word of the day. Little light peeks from behind high flying clouds as the day releases its glory. Some humidity wakes only some of the sleeping as the day begins. The stillness is just a feeling of the lazy Mondays. Some swell reaches the beach as more is in the distance.     


CHANNEL: The lineup tells the story of nothing. With nothing to tell, the birds have the advantage so say hello to Becky on your way by. Though the tide breaks, there is still funk in its step. 

PATCH: They gather here. They came to see if it was worth it and it was not. It was just fun. Not consistent break but consistent rolling brings joy to the novice as others look on in wonder...had it been better at 5am?

Your travels are to be filled with heavy mist and wet roads. As caution may bring the reward slower, it may be worth the wait. As the unknown brings little triumph, many will be content with the outcome. As for the ones with little patience, little will be served. For the lineup, there are many new faces and many seek the dull waves to gain self confidence as for may are hidden behind the curtain.    


CHANNEL: A heavy feeling among the line up as many take one. Summer seems to have set in with the fog, and the ones who drop in do so unknowingly. As smatterings this and that take place, may find refuge in the learning zone. With the morning crowd, little is given although there may be more for the taking.

PATCH: The few that dare to attempt are seen as the odd ones out. With little to give, it is very forgiving. Small rollers fall through slowly, and although they seem like the ones are having fun, it is really to an intimate tune that will succeed.

Ruffled, rippled and wet as the skies release moisture enough to make the gutters run.  Jangled and jumbled conditions as mediocre swells and morning southerly winds compete in a battle royale cage match.  Overcast though potential for clearing exists if the past week has been any accurate indication of trends.  Kayaks, fishing vessels and surfers launch effortlessly all with different aspirations upon today's waters.  Initial observations should be viewed through a reverse peephole in order to get the full effect.   


CHANNEL: Cherished moments as an empty lineup soon finds company from those seeking solace and slides upon these choppy seas.  An incoming tide lends a helping hand and extra push to formulate dumpers into breakers.  A resolute trio wants in on the reindeer games while others stare blankly into the distance and wonder where it all went wrong.  

PATCH: A steepening and deepening S swell is upon said liquid though baptismal events are currently not occurring.  More winds whip than waves break which has tipped the present scales in the direction of maybe.  Those with time to scrutinize and search may ultimately find what they covet.

We end the week with a thud as shifty SW winds bellow and obscure with a soup of permanence and associated mists.  While swell action is on a bit of an ascend the current gusts are dealing Mike Tyson body blows to their appearance.  A morning more suited to brewed java and jovial company than wetsuit donning and wax application.  Those wishing to brave less-than-ideal conditions are still many in number with others u-turning at land's end. 


CHANNEL: Chopped and churned as tides rise and revolve.  NW windswell no match for southerly air flow and popping peaks are knocked down and laid out cold.  A few fragments striking the bars at just the right angle give the illusion of wave faces which are then dashed.  A determined tribe fights a battle of merit with a heart of stoke their own reward.

A fog of depth descends and transforms as we seek stoke within the recesses of our minds.  Temps hold steady ready at 56F and though the sun is but a mystery the reveal should come later.  Minor blends of meager swells are cause for contemplation and action though visual aids are not in effect this early morning.  Tides remain friendly and fulfilled so water levels are favorable for ocean entry.    


CHANNEL: A roving sandbar creates on the fly and shifts focus in the swirling fogs.  The usual sights and sounds are obliterated in the mist yet many seem to find solace upon these waters.  Lefts and more lefts seem to be the predominate direction with those attempting rights disappearing into uncharted harbours. 

PATCH: Miniature S swell keeps the Kupuna hopefuls honing their skills with contest aspirations at an all time high.  Blanketed in vapors the glassy nature lends an encouraging vibe to those making the long walk with long logs.  The smooth cruise may well be in effect today.

Morose and misty and fog slinks back to cover and conceal.  Temps dip and blip then settle in at 54F.  Unrevealed skies keep the sun at bay and winds are nil therefore surfaces are glassy.  A touch of windswell from the NW and a meager South keep a few dreamer's hopes alive.  Middling tides all day has plenty of water available for play.   


CHANNEL: Shore lappers and knee-cappers as lefts lurch and lunge without much ferocity.  Those that stand tall with paddle in hand and those that sit with double ended oars make out the current roster of participants.  A smooth facade upon which to glide and as stoke comes in all shapes and sizes it is available today.

PATCH: Procrastinating swell still emitting a few surges to keep the logging mob satiated if not completely satisfied.  Knee high bulges on burnished faces do appear and have the capacity to propel.  The present contingent is small but approves of the offerings.

Summer strikes again! The sun is beating down on us already and the day is heating up quick. the current temperature is 56F but feels much warmer. A 6am high tide is leaving us with plenty of water to share but keep in mind that it is only Bolinas, so bring your log and your sunscreen, you'll need both to survive.


CHANNEL: The tide fills the channel with too much water but the tide is already on its way out. Nothing to see here, Try wait , move along.

PATCH: Knee high rollers accompanied by logs make good friends but there's nothing to shout about.

The sun rises over the lagoon and the town is full of golden light. No fog blocks our views of the future or of the past. Let today be a day of healing and let the sea wash away all doubts. The current temperature stands at a warming 58F and will continue to rise. Parking is a plenty and for good reason, little shindigs are all that appear in the water.


CHANNEL: Slippery knee slopes jive and jiggle but not a sole dares to take the plunge. Tide is still lingering in between highs and lows.

 
PATCH: Remaining swell leaves a soothing slide with heights only to the knee and below.

Daily Surf Report - 7/10/2016

Crisp with a slight chill and sweet taste in the air.  Sparkling, radiant and 53F to kick out the jams.  Winds again remain at bay and a slight rhythm from the S has loggers unlashing sleds and suiting up most pronto.  A lessened tide swing keeps water levels adequate for regular dips and trips.  The known is obvious but the unknown awaits.


CHANNEL: Groomed little grinders still feeling fine just in front of the boat ramp.  Quick entry and exits are required to keep all fins securely in place upon board bottoms as the shallows do approach.  At the Groin Pole Palace a bit wonky but working in the thigh high range with lefts the optimal direction of travel.  Basking seals to keep everyone company and plenty of patronage already exists.  

 

PATCH: Filled in swell from overnite has the Patch a bit more regular this morning. Higher low tides allow for more general coverage and those who like the slide and glide are out in force taking full advantage.  Stand up, lay down, sit on top, with paddle, arms akimbo, all are present and accounted for in the early hours.  Hopeful that all can play nice and get along while remembering the the right of way.  More time and more water will bring more heads to this setting.

Spectacular start to a simmering day as sun meets and greets and temp punches in at 59F.  Early birds tweet and scamper as they try to avoid the draining tide swing.  A timid incorporation of NW windswell backed with a touch of S has both spots actuated but not firing on all cylinders.  A worthy beach day in many respects and suiting up for a surf is likely on the agenda.  All professional courtesies are being observed today.  


CHANNEL: Grinding lefts more suited to groms and gremmies awaits at the boat ramp entrance.  Canines and pinnipeds range freely withing this realm.  Groin pole society adds members by the moment as seekers and tweekers bask in thigh high lefts that may or may not appear.  A smoother surface upon which to work as winds are slack today.  A lessening of water will cause a temporary shutdown though afternoons have revealed promise worth waiting for.  

 

PATCH: A touch of swell from the tropical South signals a renewed interest and activity level here.  Loggers stream with lenghty distances to cover before reaching their sought destination.  Smooth and glistening peaks fold over with sufficiency to propel though only for short journeys.  Un-shroud yourself and make your presence known. Find redemption in the briny bath and stay within restrained confines.

Tamped down and clamped down as we begin anew with the repeat atmospheric conditions of fog / mist / breezes / negative tides.  Emerging sun and temp of 57F lends hope to overall bonanza of a day.  Though roads and surfaces remain dampened not the spirits of a lively crew currently frolicking within the breakers.  Most swell activity wanes and waxes but with summer here the lineups remain thick with enthusiasm. 


CHANNEL: Populated more heavily than current conditions would dictate and stoke is palpable among the participants.  Draining tide has once again exposed all sand and stone to the light of day and lineups are easily walked out to with board in tow.  There are rides being had and while they are far from legendary they do validate the excursion and effort.  Knee high shall be the mantra of the day. 

 

PATCH: A lone paddler stands tall and surveys the domain.  He dominates the dojo by his solo presence.  He rides no waves as none materialize.

A diminished density of fog though still present and accounted for on this fine summer day.  Hoping for a day full of corgis at the end of the rainbow but will settle for calm winds and small surf.  A slight shifting of sandbars and some steeper angled swells have stymied the usual suspects but allows a new candidate to jump into the race.  What is always apparent is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  


CHANNEL: A migration of grit and gravel lends itself to shallow lefts that emerge and engage directly in front of the boat ramp proper.  Though one can walk into the lineup rather that paddle that is not thwarting the determined from finding opportunity.  Again a drained tide has exposures at maximum and the waiting game is not being played today.

High skies and weepy eyes as a new clarity begins to reveal itself and true beings become known.  A settled village back to an abnormal state with sunshine guiding the way.  Though swells may dwell in the ocean depths, they are less than apparent to the naked eye as tidal levels drop far below zero.  A cautionary quad meanders along wide swaths of beach seeking promise of more while interacting with less.


CHANNEL: Much more sand than surf as bars pop and sizzle like vampires caught out in the sun.  Micro-mini peelers appear and wheelers lunge and lurch in an exhaustive effort to attain.  Enhancement will come with time as water levels will push higher than high but not until much later in the day.  A time for inner exploration and vocal exhortation may be just the ticket to pass the hours. 

 
PATCH: A UN-encumbered landscape of sticks and stones.  Toothy rocks and craggy shores offer no inviting options save for long walks with loved ones.  Wide expanses will allow access to far shores that now are open to exploration.  A SW swell may be in the offering but not until ocean levels significantly rise.  Try Wait!

The misty morning is an afterthought of the festivities. The oddballs are out and they show. A thick fog rumbles through with signs of no life. As small but amusing surf rolls in, only the fewest members of the club appear. The slow morning rumbles on with no promise of improvement for both.


CHANNEL: As the slop comes in, so do the cattle. With few takers, there is not much for the taking. Those waiting for the sea from the day before, will be dished with the same. Though there is always room for improvement, challenges may be served.

 
PATCH: The 3 that braved the misty morning are served with nothing but chop and slop as their first meal. The easy read of the waves gives good promise to the new, but just an easy paddle for the old. The rocks give way to a caution which should be considered and of course, there may be different in the future.

Happy Independence day to all as the day begins. Slippery mist covered roads that  lead us to our little town so be cautious with your morning race. Currently the temperature is 56F, with some wind and moisture in the air. Stormy water conditions are in place and mixing with very low lows and high highs. If you're coming out today it's for the festivities, and not the surf. As for the town, the roads are currently closed to all vehicles though shuttles are running and walking is always a healthy option.

CHANNEL: 3 brave souls wait in the cold for what will never come. Too much swell mixing with not enough water. Choppy and ugly.

 
PATCH: All that is left are the rocks who sing.

A cold wind blows and premonitions abound.  A southerly flow competes with rising tides as temps remain sub-optimal as we start this holiday weekend.  The hung bunting has no one punting as all manner of vehicle disgorges an endless stream of occupants like circus clown cars.  Urban achievers in training don gear suited for the chill climes and venture forwards into the maw of the beast.  Let the fireworks begin.....

CHANNEL:  Deep thoughts and bon mots as options are thin and limitless at the same time.  Poison picking with stiff winds thwarting the decision making ability at present.  At this point there is no looking back.  No regrets and we push forwards, onwards, upwards, always.  


PATCH: Chopped and challenged though oceanic elements from the S are present.  A decided lack of water and propensity of South wind is putting a kibosh on the tip toe through the tulips.  Though a regiment has formed they are less than orderly and as apt to misfire as they are to find a worthy target.
